Based on my past predictions around this matter. I believe these stories are false rumours, a tease if you will. Maybe it's a form of Trolling the competition namely Samsung. Perhaps they've been studying Trump and applying his techniques with much aplomb.

I'm pretty sure of that, also. But we are still months (two of them) away from the reveal, so it can also be true that they're still working on features.
No. That's not how hardware manufacturing at scale (15+ million units a month) works. The hardware is done. Period.

All of this crap stems from the nonsense reporting about a different "fingerprint under the screen" technology not being ready for primetime, where tech "journalists" can't seem to understand that Apple is using their own implementation, not an off the shelf solution that was just demo'd at a trade show.

I do not understand why someone could even suggest having TouchID in the power button. The Raise to Wake function eliminates the need of pushing it, and Im sure Apple wont do a 360.
Because it's the best solution if you can't get it behind the display.

This has been discussed ad nauseam already: it is because it is the iPhone 10th anniversary this year. Apple wants to celebrate it in a special way, hence the rumored "rush" to release a special iPhone that is very different from the iterative "s" designs that we have come to expect in the odd numbered years...
Why people keep saying it's only because they want to celebrate the 10th anniversary of iPhone?! The way more obvious reason is that they used the iPhone 6 body for three iPhones now - and not the typical cycle of two. The 10th anniversary is just nice addon but probably not the main reason.

If they delay it then release next years earlier in the year, what's going to happen to those of us on iPhone Upgrade Programme? Will we have to wait later next year as well (due to the 11 month requirement)?

Something about these articles just screams "manufactured drama for the sake of clicks"

If this is true and I mean a big "IF", the simple fix until they get the OLED integrated fingerprint reader problem solved is to put the fingerprint reader on the Power Button.
This is the easiest fix!
I am sure that a company as astute as Apple ALWAYS has a Plan B.

More to the point though. I have stated before. If Apple puts TouchID on the back of the phone or doesnt include it at all, I'll keep on with my 7Plus. Understanding that this article is pure speculation.

Think about how awkward it would be to use Apple Pay with your face? Apple Pay has taken off but has not replaced plastic just yet. However, people are using it more and more, and for Apple to ruin that experience alone by removing Touch ID, would be completely ridiculous. Also, Touch ID was designed to be used with multiple fingers, a lot of people register multiple prints including me for different scenarios. They are not placing it on some awkward spot like the side or the back of the phone. Apple isn't lazy like that.

Question: who believes the chestnut that Apple simply must make phones in China, because of the necessity to be able to wake up thousands of workers in the middle of the night to make last second changes?

You can't have it both ways. Either Apple has no need for such capability because everything is always ready ahead of time, or they do because in real life unforeseen stuff happens.

I find this very very very hard to believe. A company of Apple's caliber probably had this figured out earlier in the year. I really don't believe they're "scrambling" to get Touch ID implemented.

It's not hard to believe at all. In fact, it is quite easy to believe. Tech giants struggle with new/developing technology ALL the time. Intel almost always struggles with a new node processes and architectures, as do companies like Samsung, AMD, and TSMC. Samsung also had to compromise on their sensor and place it on the back of the phone. What makes you think Apple is immune to these issues that affects literally, every other company?

Lets also not forget, most of these companies actually designed, develop and manufacture their own technology, vs being a customer like Apple is for most of the components in their products. If anything, they are more prone to delays, not less.

You all have no idea how R&D actually works at Apple, do you?

I think you have no idea how manufacturing of complex electronic devices works. This is not about R&D, it's about actual production. R&D keeps moving on but hardware it's working on in July of 2017 is not for product set to hit the stores 3 months later. It's for product that will hit the floor next year or even the year after that or the year after that.

no way this is true. Another company already came out with this tech I bet without a doubt apple has known about what they used in their tech way before any of this nonsense. They probably had it ready well before earlier in the year. Just like that other company. It may not be the whole screen I'm ok with the 1/4 lower half

Touch ID or facial recognition, either implementation is fundamental to the design of the phone (or any phone, for that matter).

Like others have said, I have a really hard time believing Apple is still on the fence with this. This is something that would have been decided upon and issues worked out months ago. And if it is true? Then Apple has some major coordination problems going on between its design teams...

That said, I am expecting Touch ID to be there. How could Apple scrap an entire piece of functionality that has been baked into and throughout iOS over the years? Not having Touch ID would be a radical departure that would essentially bifurcate the iPhone lines in terms of how people use and interact with them.

gonna laugh and probably buy one when we see a 7s/7s+ that looks like the 7/7+ as the only offerings this fall, such a "dilemma" one of the world's richest companys got themselves in

If I were a bank, I'd be pissed if Apple went with the facial recognition. In response, I would most likely pull out of the Apple Pay program because a sacrifice in security would not be worth it to me.

That scenario of banks pulling out scares me.

I'm guessing Apple has already "solved the dilemma" but short sellers and put options traders are spreading the negative rumors in an attempt to tank the stock (like they do every year).

This is a ridiculous story. You can't "fix" problems like this in a few weeks. Any fix would require retooling of the line at some level, and you can't "race to fix" it before launch. And even if you could, you wouldn't race to do it, because then you'd have something like the Samsung note screwup.

This is some FUD spread by someone or another.

It's like the article is making it sound like Apple is scrambling right now to figure out what they should do for the iPhone 8. When in reality, they likely already have everything compiled and put together for production, which likely already started. We are talking about a billion dollar tech company that knows what they're doing and has everything figured out before we do.

You may be right, and Apple would prefer to ship 15+ millions of iPhones with fingerprint sensors that don't work reliably than to try and fix or work around a problem with mass production that occurred more than two months before they even announced the phone.

I’m sure Apple already figured this out. Probably pushing these “rumors” out for hype.

I doubt Apple needs the hype... iPhone 8 is going to be huge regardless.

It's more like the media needs more clicks and narcissistic analysts need to get their name out there; what better way than to ride the most anticipated product launch in years? Truth and facts be damned.

Eaxctly. Since iPhone 6 was the first Steve Jobs had not been part of designing, it pretty much tells that Apple already had most of the hardware locked in when iPhone 7 shipped. They are certainly already working on the one for next years release.
