Lol, for some reason after reading the headline, I got a mental image of a sleep-deprived Tim Cook sitting in his office late at night with a single desk lamp on, as he struggles to draw up iPhone 8 concepts.

Why don't they just put the fp sensor on the back? No I'm not thrilled if they do that, but I'm not about to lose Apple pay either and am willing to take the sacrifice. Alternatively they could put it in the center of whatever the function bar ends up being. I've already resigned myself to the wasted space of the function bar, why not make it a bit less wasteful by putting the fp sensor there? From what I understand the issue is that the glass over the fp sensor is a different color, or too dark, so putting it under the function bar makes sense until next year.

Either way, I am VERY skeptical that Apple would launch without a fp sensor, they just arent' the kind of company which would make such an idiotic move.

Touch ID is probably more reliable than facial recognition anyway. Why bother throwing Touch ID away? It's fast with Apple Pay

I wondering why apple keep update their iphone colour but when it come to music and memory theres no special update. what the most people hate from iphone music is its ability to transfer music from pc to iphone, well it is suck and Now iphone 8 already standing at the gate but will it come with new features in music? Dear apple team, if you read this i want asking :why iphone unable to download music and video and saved it " directly" Thank you.

As with all big rumors about iPhone, nothing will happen. Plain 7s and 7s Plus will be released. Nothing more, same design as in 2014, completing 4 years of same design until next year when a new design will appear.

That's probably the best solution if it's not ready. They will still sell a boatload of 7s and 7s plus models plus most of those people will want to upgrade again when the completed 8 comes out in 2018.

It would be best to get one more year out of the 7 design if they want to really stretch the iPhone brand to get the most out of it long term. It sells on brand name anyhow so they should be fine if they wanted to wait a year.

Because they couldn't build Touch ID into the display without issues.

I'm curious to see the reaction (outside of crying MR forum members) if it does indeed launch without a fingerprint scanner.

I can see facial recognition taking care of 90-95% of general use functions, like unlocking, etc. Even if they were able to integrate facial recognition with Apple Pay, what I'm wondering is if enthusiasts (those who would be willing to spend $1000+ on an iPhone) will be ticked off by the "gimped" phone, which they didn't succeed in being able to put Touch ID into.

Another stop gap measure, which everyone thought the iPhone 7 was to begin with.

I know Apple is bound by "must have new phone in fall" requirements, but for me it wouldn't be worth it if this phone doesn't have touch ID. Now I was not planning on buying this phone in the first place (I usually get the "S" phones), but I'd hate to see this phone rushed without a key feature. I suppose then I will be waiting for the 8S anyway, which will hopefully have the touch ID problem solved.

The Apple logo at the back will be the Touch ID. It's already the perfect size, shape and location.

If they don't resolve the problem then they may quietly delay the release until they get it right. Thats what they did with the AirPods.

I'm not sure it's that simple this time around. An extra 1-2 months doesn't necessarily make the issues they encountered go away. I would assume for something this important (they know the date of launch) that if they would be able to do it this year (or within 6 months from now), they would have already been able to do it.

A technological set back.

Can't even count the number of people who have made this prediction..

I'd rather wait a full year extra than sacrificing Touch ID or having it on the back.

I only agree with this because I don't want a gimped $1000-1200 phone, lol. Otherwise I'd be fine with facial recognition for most of my needs. Would much prefer Touch ID as a backup though, if it ends up sucking, or being annoying. Which I have a feeling it will.

Ship the iPhone and send the button later as an add-on.

That will not happen with the iPhone. It's their largest launch annually and this rumor is ridiculous. Also, you can't compare the Airpods to the iPhone. The Airpods was an accessory to the iPhone and it was also a new product at the time.

Given Apple already started production early as rumored due to the demand, I'm confident the iPhone will launch on time in September.

I just find it hard to believe that Apple who has Billions to spend in R&D couldn't figure this out, yet a tiny little company like VIVO did?

Anyway I rather they delay it, I don't mind holding on to my 7 plus for a few more months, its a great phone.

It's July the iPhone design, functions and most everything else will be locked down, hell Apple probably know what the iPhone 9 is going to feature, these company's work years in advance. Any issues they have had will have been worked out months ago OR they will have decided months ago to remove Touch ID, either way the decision is made!

I find this very very very hard to believe. A company of Apple's caliber probably had this figured out earlier in the year. I really don't believe they're "scrambling" to get Touch ID implemented.

Every company, big or small, has problems meeting deadlines at times.

Heck, with the first iPhone, the Gorilla glass showed up after production had already started, and the first already made plastic screened iPhones had to be sent back through for refitting with glass.

According to KeyBanc Capital Markets analyst Andy Hargreaves, who contributed to the report, Apple has until August to either place orders for chips to run a fingerprint sensor, or miss that window and not have a fingerprint ID at all, or delay more significantly the release of the iPhone.

This makes sense. Since the iPhone 4, Apple has usually applied for FCC approval four to six weeks before a new model is announced.

So for a mid September announcement, they have to decide which design to go with at the beginning of August. By then they should have some preproduction units of various designs already tested and ready to pick from.

With 3D facial unlock.. isn't it funny people can just take your phone and point it at you to gain access? lol

At less with Touch ID you can put up a fight for your fingers lol.

Never mind these ANALysts - Looking at this mockups - the question is who would buy the $ 749 iPhone 7s plus if the new model starts at $ 849 (that would be like $ 4 dollars more on an installment plan)

Apple will probably get away starting this thing at $949-$1,049 and even at that price a lot of people will get it.

What if it starts at $1049 though?

If Apple ends up using facial recognition in place of the Touch ID, I wonder how they will spin it to convince people that facial recognition is the way to go.

Or, will they admit that they failed to keep the Touch ID in the front, and had to do something.

IMO, unlocking an iPhone with one's face might be a little awkward.

Well they had no problem of introducing a stylus , they can spin facial recognition.

Speaking as someone whose company developes machines for industrial manufacturers, I find it very commonplace that a major feature isn't complete as the release deadline gets close. It happens to us and all of our competitors.
