And so many people didn't understand why I was surprised when the new iPhone didn't have a lightening to USB c cord. Why come out with one product using the old port and then another product with the new one?

I`m really not understanding what is going on at Apple this days... They do things like this time to time, but not allowing 2 of there flagship devices to be connected together is not like them at all...

I'm assuming you're using hyperbole here, because saying that they are "not allowing" the iPhone 7 and the MacBook Pro to be connected together is a ridiculous statement. Obviously it's "allowed" - you just need an adapter (the same one that anyone with a 12 inch MacBook has been using to connect their laptop to their iPhone 7 - this isn't new).

Everyone is so surprised that they're going the same way with the MBP as they did with the MacBook just a year ago - why? This is completely in-character for Apple (removing ports before ALL of their customers are ready to remove those ports) - if you're not personally ready, then don't upgrade. If you really feel that you shouldn't have to buy a USB-C to Lightning cable to connect your iPhone 7, then stick with the 2015 MBP. Don't expect everyone else to wait around for all of you to "get ready" before we can start using what's available today, though.

So Intel processors are delayed because Steve Jobs isn't around to pressure them? Thanks for my laugh for the day.

Yes. Read the bio.

When Steve used to visit them, they were literally scared, so they had no other choice but do it in time.

Now Apple is spending more time in empowering women rights conferences and LGBT rights parades rather than their suppliers.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Independent, Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller said the company has received more online orders for the new MacBook Pro so far than any previous-generation MacBook Pro.

Schiller said the early criticism and debate about the new MacBook Pro has been "a bit of a surprise" to him, but said "that's cool" and common for new Apple products. He attributed the response to a "passionate" customer base.Schiller went on to say the new MacBook Pro is "the best notebook ever made," but admitted it "might not be right for everyone on day one."

Whereas some companies are blurring the lines between notebooks and tablets, Schiller said the basic L shape "makes perfect sense and won't go away."That response is part of Apple's belief that the Mac and iOS devices are "fundamentally two different products."Also interesting: Schiller noted the new MacBook Pro still has a 3.5mm headphone jack because it is a "pro machine," but lacks an SD card reader because it's a "cumbersome" slot best left to adapters or wireless transfers.

I may be another "koolaid" drinker telling Apple to "take my money" but the dongle thing is a transitionary phase. In 1-2 years we will be talking in USB-C (GoPro's Hero5 series of cameras charge and talk via USB-C).
I look forward when most devices standardize on USB-C (can Apple give up lightening for USB-C?) and I don't need to track USB (or figure out if it is right side up or upside down), thunder port-2, power cords, SD cards etc.
As much as we are having a great time throwing around the word "courage", it does take some brass cajones to push the game forward.
The Kvetchers will Kvetch, but history will move forward and it looks like it will be USB-C.

Well, why is it an sd card reader? most "pro" cameras actually use CF cards. Some use SD. If you shoot video/go pro/ drone, its micro SD. Personally, I shoot all 3.

In reality these devices need to have a USB-C/TB port that you just connect directly to your laptop. Then the memory format is not a factor.

Increasingly not any more they don't. Most pro cameras are going over to SD from CF, if they have not already gone. Even those that still use CF, often have an SDXC card slot as well. Now that we have 256GB UIII SDXC cards, the requirement for CF has disappeared. The most recent pro cameras usually have 2 SDXC slots, e.g the Leica SL that I use. My older Leica S has CF and SDXC. I never use the CF other than it being there as a back up.

MacBook Pros have existed since 2006 and some how these pro users survived with 16GB RAM. Now all of a sudden in 2016 they can no longer survive?

Work and applications have gotten more complex and will continue to do so.
We used to do print work on 128k/512k Mac's in the 80's. Do you think we should have stuck to that?

“640K ought to be enough for anybody.”

I have a friend who bought the top of the line he's been waiting for sometime to upgrade his old macbook and he was very happy and excited with his order I guess many like him are.

I really am getting frustrated with those of you whose answer to all the dongle problems is simple buy new cables. After buying one of these computer I would have no money for food never mind new expensive cables.
Maybe stick with the older-model MacBook Pro, then. Doesn't seem like this update is for you. Both types of consumers can co-exist, this update doesn't have to be the holy grail for everyone.

Any MAcBook over 1,000s needs to include a GPU, period! If they are going to strip ports then Apple need to add the "three dot connector" at the bottom so we can use docking stations that include all the ports we need, done. Apple Doesn't even need to make a doc, just add the connector and the docs will come. I refuse to buy one until the prices come down and GPUs are added.

A $4200 laptop is simply absurd.

I guess those are the creative pro's that Apple's targeting these days.
Well, to be fair, it's not a MacBook Creative Pro, it's a MacBook Pro. And to imply that law students aren't professionals is pretty ridiculous.

No. I will be moving to Dell XPS15" next year which meets my needs just fine.

And 25 years ago 'professionals' used computers that had 4 MB of RAM. Memory demand has increased over the years, also in the past 10 years. In 2006 I would have been fine with 8 GB. 16 is the minimum for me now but there are certainly some good reasons for some to need more.
