I disagree completely.. Its one of the best arguments to keep USB ports, as there is no way to do factory restore or any kind of recovery with out plugging in to iTunes, keep an older laptop for this function is just plain ridicules..

What if you do have just that laptop and you need to do a full restore (your phone has iTunes logo on it) what are you supposed to do ? Go out to the store and buy a dongle ? Order it online and wait ? Removing USB ports while your other flagship devices are shipping with USB cables is just crazy ! Not even including a dongle to at least allow that is a slap in the face...

I`m really not understanding what is going on at Apple this days... They do things like this time to time, but not allowing 2 of there flagship devices to be connected together is not like them at all... I really do miss Steve Jobs, this would not be if he was around, no way we would need 4 different adapters to accomplish simple tasks....

I waited 4 years for this refresh only to want to jump ship now.... I guess back to hackintoshes it is...

Buy cables that fit the computer? When I got my 12" MB I went out and got a USB-C to lightning cable to connect to my iPhone. Easy as that and the cost is basically change.

its because you can't find them anywhere else, Id bet they won't be in stores anytime soon, just like the apple watch, air pods, and iPhone 7's.

I'll buy this machine. My 2011 MBP is still working; it's a little slow because of the HDD, but I feel like I need a new computer anyway. And what, I produce music too, but my stuff is no where on iTunes or on radio stations. Am I still a professional? Just because I think I am, do I have a say in how Apple makes their machines? Funny thing is, the only plug that goes into my MBP these days is the MagSafe. Will I miss it? Probably not. iCloud and the whole wireless thing is phenomenal. Even while transferring files from a windows machine at school, and opening presentations, and printing papers, is all done without using my USB stick. I haven't even pulled that thing out of my backpack. Is this the vision of Apple? Probably. Does it work? Yes. Are the new MBPs sweet a$$ machines? Oh yeah. I mean, we all hate dongles, but it's really not that bad. Like a top commented said, the price is a little ridiculous, but then again, so is dining out on a weekend night, spending $100 for 2, with a $20 tip because you feel good about yourself. The new MBP is a machine, and it will do anyone good for 5+ years.

This is officially 'Donglegate'.

Ive never seen such a misjudgment from Apple as to charge €3500 for a laptop and not include dongles for the transition.

Its nothing more than greed and confusion.

My guess is they are still putting the final touches on a Mac Pro redesign, plus waiting for a touchbar-enabled wireless keyboard to be ready before unveiling the iMac. Not sure how wise it is to delay your entire product line over one accessory, but that's the way Apple rolls.

I can't see them redesigning the Mac Pro soon. I think I remember Phil saying something like this design will be around for at least 10 years. It just needs an upgrade that's all.

I think and hope they might redesign the iMac. Hopefully to finally remove the chin and reduce the border around the screen so we get a bigger screen size in the same footprint.

Personally I think they've deliberately held back on new desktops to give all the limelight to the new MBP. They probably think we will all buy the new MBP because that's the only new Mac and then a few months later they'll spring the new desktops on us in the hope that we will all go out and buy them to.

What we really need is an annual Mac only event where they announce all the new Macs for the year. Like the old MacWorld Conference Keynote in January.

Remember everyone freaking out when the retina MacBook came out

Omfg the ram is soldered in! No DVD drive, custom SSD wtf Apple how is this pro. Aaaaaargh they are doomed etc etc.
Yes, and i don't think its doing as well as they want you to believe, if they even are.

So what is you point?

My only complain is the price...I just cant afford spending 3.000$ for a laptop.

Didn't Apple said they wanted to expand to the corporate sector with a partnership with IBM and so on? Well good luck selling 3.000$ laptops to corporate customers. Macs have became even less affordable for most customers.

500$ more for a notebook is a lot.

Good luck keeping track of those cables. Hmm..this is USB-A. This one is USB-c. This is a USB-c to lightning. This one is USB-a to lightning. Here's the SD usb-a adapter. I'm gonna need different colors and labels for these. They all kind of look alike when thrown into a bag. It's best just to get a hub if possible.

No need to be so obnoxious. Just said my opinion, that's what the forum is for. Also they'll drop the price sooner or later.
I apologize. Didn't mean to single you out.
Just sick of reading message after message from people saying how horrible these computers are, and nobody will buy them, and Apple should be utterly utterly ashamed. And my mom and I are going to teach Apple a real lesson!
$1499, in 2016, for a "Pro" entry, is fine.

If you made the Mac a touchscreen you’d have to figure out how to make it a good experience with your finger on a touchscreen. Trust me, we’ve looked at that — it’s a bad experience. It’s not as good or as intuitive as with a mouse and trackpad.

Here we go again. Just let me use the apple pencil to hand write notes in the existing One Note app (as I could 10 years ago on my Fujitsu slate portable). No need to change UI at all.

Enough BS Phil ;-)

That's what happens when you don't friggin update them for ages and there's pent up demand. Duh...
It's been 18 months, which is longish but not "ages." And anyway I thought you were all going to buy the Dell XPS 13 or 15 now.

Wow! That is something I would never have guessed...
I'm not surprised at all. Online enthusiast message boards aren't a reliable indicator of the general buying public.

- Either all the complainers are new to Macs, or the Mac users have completely forgotten that Macs have always been very expensive.

Agreed. But the difference here is that the performance gains for the new MacBook Pros are not that great compared to previous generations.

This is not Apple's fault. Technology has got to the point where doubling the capacity every two years isn't possible any more. We do have a smaller size (17% less volume?) and lower weight, but that isn't enough to justify the new price.

- I can only think of 2 or 3 releases where Apple used an Intel chip launched in that same quarter. Every other time, Apple used a chip they judged to be reliable and sufficient rather than risk using an unknown newest chip.
- More multifunction multi-purpose ports = good. Fewer single-function single-use ports = bad.

I agree.

- 95% of Pros are thinking the same thing that 95% of Pros always think when Apple releases a new product: "Cool, I'll see how this shakes out, but for now my 2012/2013/2014/2015 Macbook Pro works well."
I'm not sure that's going to be the case. The gains over 2015 aren't that great. Their existing notebook will serve them almost as well for far longer than before.

I accept from Phil Schiller that online sales are very high at the moment. But that's probably because, as others have said, there are no in store sales at this time and there is pent up demand.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's then a significant sales drop when the early easy sales are over, and the excitement has died down, and people look at price, product and value more carefully.

"More online orders" vs Sold out

In the past years when a mbp was released, they used to have a date to purchase them right after the keynote, like 2 weeks later, from the store and online pre-order.

Based on the comment of more online orders sold, sounds like they were just waiting to see how many actually made the pre-order purchase and then will ship them out accordingly. With all the booha now, im sure an update to kaby lake will be released in the spring time to appease us all! and maybe price reduction to piss off the early adopters from this month.

I don't think it's going to be hit with the nmbp when those normal folk who buy them out of curiosity, start wanting to plug in their usb or sd or whatever, and wonder how many will be returned or in the refurbs section of the apple store come jan.

This feels like the gold apple watch syndrome. Put it in display case and we just hoover around it debating what use do i have for this hardware..in this case, nothing yet.

I wonder how those sales numbers stack up to 2 consecutive release order numbers. Since basically a release was skipped. Yes pent up demand. Also online order more than in store now a days. Also more people in the world? I for one have been a die hard mac user for nearly 30 years but find myself looking at another option including Window's PC (can't believe I'm saying it), hackintosh, upgrading an older system and hacking it to run latest OS, buying a used system. I'm definitely not buying a new macbook "pro" with "emoji bar".

Hey Mr Schiller, why not introduce a MacBook Toy and let Mr Ive thin it out to death and leave MacBook Pro with the pro features including connectivity, memory and power? Looks like I need to finally give a Hackintosh a try...

Microsoft tried that approach with Windows 7 Tablet, and Windows 8 in general. It didn't work out for them and they had to completely revamp the UI for Windows 10.
