Apple's list of reasons why the iPad Pro can replace a computer are as follows:
  1. It's more powerful than most computers.
  2. It's versatile. It's a scanner, camera, editing suite, notepad, cinema, music studio, book, and a computer.
  3. It goes anywhere thanks to LTE.
  4. It's as easy as this (with a focus on gestures).
  5. It's even better with Apple Pencil.
6. It's got the same price as though it were your next computer.

Let me know when you can use Xcode on an iPad, or play a AAA gaming title on iPad. Until then, it is not a computer, it is a specialized tool for people who need to draw.

Again not FOR YOU. You are not everyone, your needs and wants are not everyone’s. If something doesn’t work for you, don’t use it. But lose the attitude it really tired.

Is Apple completely ignorant of people who work in STEM fields? It’s getting popular, you know. And there’s still some room for growth. Oh, and we tend to use apps that work better with a mouse/trackpad-driven cursor. We also like some control over the file system. And that’s before we even talk about us content *creators*, who need to create our own directory structures, and test on a local web server.

I love the arts, and artists... but until Apple is ready to make iOS suitable for business and engineering, I’ll be hauling my MacBook Pro along with my otherwise-excellent iPad Pro.

Wow, scrolled through page one of comments and no one said, "What's a computer?"

You are disappointing me, MacRumors.

EDIT: Found, but on page 2.

That said, it is a cool ad but Apple still seems like it doesn't really know what it wants the iPad to be.

Got an 11 inch pro and the pencil/keyboard combo. It replaced my need for a personal laptop/desktop and actually works better for my uses.

Pros: Instant on/off, portable use on train, can use in bed or couch, can mark up PDFs with a pencil, can do practice math problems (i try to keep my fundamentals sharp for my career) directly on e textbooks.

Of course at the office i still have a windows machine with multiple monitor set up... but I think keeping work and personal life separate makes most people happier(even if it’s something so small and silly like the hardware you use).

True, I guess that's what they mean but who in the world would buy that line? I guess they are really reaching here.

Many scanning apps available for iOS are excellent. So much so that I didn’t bother replacing my flatbed when it died about four years ago. I wouldn’t want to scan more than about 10 pages at a time because it can get tedious; but if you just need to scan a few pages here and there, the cameras on iOS devices are so good that the documents I’ve scanned (both color and B&W) look like they were scanned on a traditional scanner.

My dad replaced his laptop with an iPad Pro + smart keyboard. He loves it. The only issue he has is photo management, which is somewhat weaker on the iPad than on a real computer.

For those making jokes about bending the case, you seem to have forgotten the laptop hinge problems of yesteryear.

There's some truth in it, plenty of reasons already mentioned right here in this thread, to name a few, no filesystem-Xcode-mouse support.

Again that is YOUR needs and your wants. Not everyone wants to code, not everyone feels the need to be able to rename and move around their files. Not everyone insists they have to be able to use a mouse. If that’s your desires, go get your fraking laptop and enjoy yourself. But drop the nonsense that everyone has to be like you.

The irony is you don't need a fast computer for all the things you mention, yet Apple gloats about how fast it is. How long can that chip sustain those speeds under full load?

Did I say I own an iPad, I don't, I just said there's SOME truth in it, no need to get angry over this.:)
