Apple have enough money in the bank to not do this, and make their products as democratised as possible.

It's pretty disgusting tbh what we're witnessing at the moment, everywhere, but Apple are really pushing it with their rises at any opportunity.

Probably why they released now to create these adjustments.

I wonder what their sales figures will be for EU this quarter since all of the insane price increases.

Yeah I think Apple is slowly starting to price itself out of the market. You can point to inflation and currency exchange rates etc etc, I'm not making a value judgement.

I'm simply not prepared to pay this much, not for a new device and not the still quite high prices Apple charges in the refurb store for older iPads.

The cost of everything is going up but our wages aren't, not even in line with inflation, and there will be a point when people will not or cannot take the hit so corporate profits won't. Again, not a value judgement.

I'm fairly deep in the Apple ecosystem but it's getting ridiculously more expensive to keep replacing parts of that ecosystem. I might, just might, start looking elsewhere next time. We'll see.

I remember the days when the euro was 80% more worth than the dollar and the prices weren't lowered because of that :')
The euro has never been worth 80% more than the dollar. The highest the euro ever was, is almost $1.60 for €1 in 2008. And Apple products were definitely cheaper in Europe at the time. I also remember prices fluctuating with the exchange rate, because I tend to time my Apple purchases based on that. So for us outside the US let's hope the current strength of the dollar doesn't persist through the entire upgrade cycle... There also seems to be a certain automaticity to these price hikes. For those wanting to buy a Mac, the Macbook Pro is currently a much better deal in the EU than the Macbook Air M2. I expect the prices of all Macs to go up when the new MBPs are announced.

If you follow the world economy even the slightest you know that much of the world is having inflation against the US dollar.
Do me the favor and get on the next plane and travel around Europe for a week, buying a Nintendo Switch, a Sony TV, a Siemens dishwasher, a LG refrigerator, Dell laptop, whatever as long as it’s not Apple, and then come back and show me how these same products are now priced ~18% higher than 12 months ago.

Good luck, you’re going to need it!

That’s not how businesses work.

U.K. inflation has officially gone up to 10.1%, not 20%, these price increases are not justified IMO with the extremes they have gone to.

The iPad Mini really isn't as much of a viable option now, you could kind of justify it before, but like with the IPhone Pro models now starting at 1100 for the 6.1", they are going over a threshold I don't think as many will be happy to pay.
And that's still with jelly scrolling effect.
The iPad is manufactured in China, paid with US Dollar. If your currency drops 20% (thanks, to Liz!) - it means all imports get 20% more expensive. Currency fluctuation is not the same as inflation.

Inflation is caused by the oil (Petrol for cars and heating) being 20% more expensive; and that in turn causes inflation (rise in prices): not 20% because not all products you buy are imported (so it averages out to 10% right now). Once the workers start asking wage increases then inflation is on a path on its own (runaway inflation: on a path which increases quickly, and cannot be controlled = leading to the crisis of 1918 and WWI).

Last time this happened Apple nearly went bankrupt. This is the exact same behaviour that led to Steve Jobs coming back and having to save the company.

Crap products in general and way to many variations. Also sky high prices.

Now, Apple is in a much stronger position financially and with mountains of cash in the bank so they won’t go bust. But hopefully a steep decline in sales will kick them into touch.

A steep decline in sales would certainly make Apple Pay attention. I’m just not convinced this situation will do that.

A real shame. The iPad Mini was already slightly above impulse purchase pricing for me, but I’ve played with it in store and it’s on my list of things that would be nice to get as a special treat to myself one day.

At this price, it’s way above the “special treat” pricing.

I do get the impact of exchange rates etc, but knowing and understanding the rational behind the price increase doesn’t actually solve the pricing problem.

I suspect other people will have a similar thought process especially as we approach holiday season.

Brazil price hikes are next since their fining of Apple this week. When will governments realise, if you fine Apple and/or force a mandate on them, they’ll increase their prices in that jurisdiction to more than cover it.

Anyone that has been paying attention knows Europe and Brazil have been pushing their charging standards (usb c) on all companies including Apple.
You need to seperate the charging-standard (USB Power Delivery, USB-PD) from the cable connector (USB-C).
Apple has been using USB-PD for years now.

I.e. three year old Playstation 5 got a €50 price hike a couple of weeks ago after staying at €500 all this time. Consoles usually get minor price-drops in such a time-frame.

Insane price increases, I had been hoping for a mini 7 in the next few months (maybe spring) so had held back on a mini 6 - especially as its been out over a year now.

So you are paying an extra £90 here in the UK for 13 month old technology !

Luckily some retailers here in the UK are still selling at the old price, snap one up quick !

Then consumers need to realize not to pay Apple for their fines and don't buy their products if prices hike up.

Android has a ~85% market share in Brazil, so dramatically increasing prices more likely will push even more people over to Android. Similar but not quite as extreme in Europe.

Yes, go Apple, you'll show them!
