People who want an note 7 , will get a replacement , people who want an iPhone will get an iPhone.

The only other twist will be when the general public learns the iPhone 7 is a 6SS, I suspect more might be pushed towards a note 7, which is actually new, for those undecided.

If I wanted a note 7, the battery issue is a non event , replacement will be fine. Same happened with the iPhone 4, design flaw, never fixed , but I wanted an iPhone .

Apparently there are no editorial standards at MR any longer. This post is loaded with awkward sentence structures and use of the passive voice. I was under the impression that MR was a legitimate well-run site but see now it is not (or was and is no longer). But if you want to know how to unlock your iPhone or check email on your phone they have nice long articles for that!
I think it's more annoying to read comments like these

Honestly the note still looks the same. Why not call that a note 6.5?

Timing is everything. With the Note having a legitimately serious issue it will no doubt bring LOTS of people to the iPhone 7. It's almost gonna be to the day that the keynote and the official recall happen. The Note was already lagging behind the 6S anyway. The only real competition for this thing would have would've been next years Galaxy but by that time the 7 is probably going to have pretty good numbers and be in the hands of much more people than expected. The closer we get to launch the more promising this phone looks over anything that will be available, just like every other year. After Tuesday I'm sure the negativity will be almost gonna and we'll be discussing what color and capacity we've all pre ordered

Well. Samsung is recalling its phone, but Apple still refuse to acknowledge "touch disease".

This just shows that Apple does not give **** for its customer. Sorry, Apple, you are out my list

It would be incredibly tacky for any Apple executives to poke fun at Samsung Note exploding batteries.
I do feel the ordering of more stock is misplaced. The Note is affected and getting stock of new models with unaffected batteries will be live very shortly.

Even my father said something about this to me and he doesn't even care about smartphones. Things like this spread fast.
This thing was covered in the news. You would have to be living under a rock to not know about the Note 7 recall. Even my mom, who doesn't own a handphone, knew about it.

One advantage with a fairly "minor" move like in the iPhone 7 is that users ought to feel it's a pretty safe bet, with good camera upgrades, new color choices, and supposedly an extremely fast CPU powering it. It's a bit like a second "s" revision. The user confidence from that (familiarity, yet obvious upgrades) should show up in sales. It's kind of like "The iPhone 7 will be the best iPhone 6". People often complain about Apple iterating designs too little but I'm sure they know what they're doing there and have done their homework in terms of market research. I'm however happy with my 6s and don't use to upgrade very often.

For me it was never the case that IPhone 7 will not be attractive enough to buy, but more to do with the fact that my iPhone 6 is more more than enough to keep me satisfied until the major IPhone 8 release.

I can't afford to buy a new phone every year and so folk like me have to be a bit more tactical about spending decisions. I've decided I want the IPhone 8 with OLED display more than the iPhone 7.

This is going to be a big success. Once it's announced everyone will realise how good of a phone it is.

I can't believe how many people on this forum said that this phone will be lackluster.

"They're releasing a 6SS" -___-

Wait until they DEBUT it before you make assumptions like that. It's going to be a great phone.

People should be buying an iPhone because it's an iPhone, not because 1 out of a 100 Android phones is on recall.
And let's not forget about Nexus devices which in my opinion is a better device for Android enthusiasts. Google does a horrible job promoting them.

Why not, when Google has?
They made it very clear that they won't be continuing the Nexus line, and that even Google branded devices would no longer be stock Android.

Despite the fact that only a tiny percentage of notes are actually blowing up, the first thing everyone says when you mention the note7 from now on will be "doesnt that phone blow up?" Just like the 6 plus' was "doesnt that phone bend?".

Karma is a bitch.

I think it's spread fast because it's a product safety recall, I believe by law they have to contact all media outlets to get the message out there? Not 100% certain mind but safety recalls do tend to get lots of media coverage.

That's the point Consuer Reports is making, it should be a an official product safety recall, but Samsung us still resisting it.

A lot of companies can poach users because many of them are manufacturer agnostic. Google, HTC, LG, OP, etc are also linking their chops.

. More people need to be just move on when they reach that point. Good bye and good luck with the next chapter in your tech life. It was nice having you.

Official recalls take time and target products by name and model.
This would require Samsung to change both the name and model number on replacement devices.
Replacement phones will already be shipping in another week.
It would delay those phones so they could be rebranded.
Samsung is already eating a ton of cash over this. An official recall would financially kill the phone.

I may be wrong, but I really doubt people switch back and forth between Android & iPhones every year depending on the latest phone offering. Android users are just as entrenched in Android and Google as iOS users are entrenched behind the walled garden. I think all the posturing about switching back & forth is just that. It's just too much of a pain to switch.

Isn't Samsung reporting like under 100 phones so far out of 2.5 million. Hardly worth the controversy IMO.

Anyway I plan in getting the iPhone 7 (what the hell happened to the 6SE rumors) when it comes out!

I'm still reluctant to get a CarPlay head unit in my VW but I really want it.

I agree but there's always exceptions to a rule. I switch between platforms regularly. Currently using the Nexus 6P, before that;

Note 7
S7 Edge
HTC 10
iPhone 6S Plus
Note 5
etc.

I try phones because I like what they do, not what they are in terms of OS. I like Samsung's camera, water resistance, s-pen, and screen, but I don't like the software too much. iPhone is great for apps, stability, unified communication, accessories, customer support, etc., but I don't like it's inability to allow customization, no default app changes, and the fact it's the same phone year and year out minus a few things.

Basically I like and dislike both. Pros and cons. And I grab whatever phone suits my mood.

However I don't think I'll ever jump on the Android tablet train. Nothing there for me.

Hmm I'd be doubtful, because the main selling pint of the Note is the pen / stylus. Otherwise people would buy the bigger Galaxy.
So I can't see many sales going to the iPhone 7 but who knows?

Lol, you know a lot of people who would rather have a Stylus than a phone that won't explode when charging? Do you not know what this does to the perception of Samsung as a whole? They aren't done, but this is a PR nightmare. Go ahead and claim they are recalling them. How do you go about switching them in? Take it to an Apple Store? Lol couldn't help myself

I'd argue the company who could benefit most from the Note 7 battery issue is LG with their new V20 that is supposed to be introduced tomorrow. A lot of Note 7 buyers want a large screened Android phablet and the V20 will probably be the most direct competitor.
