I don't think the Note was ever a high selling device so it shouldn't be a shock that it's still not.

If I'm not mistaken the S# series was where it is at for Samsung.

Just an observation but could be wrong.

But...but...but...how is this even possible?

All the experts here at MR claim that the iPhone 7 is going to flop. Stupid Apple ordering more parts. They should read these forums to get advice on how to run their company.

Math.

Read the first post, it reports that Apple previously said sales will be down 40% from last year but now saying they want orders to increase by 10%. Apple needs to increase orders by 51% to have phones available to sale to have better sales than last year.

Apparently there are no editorial standards at MR any longer. This post is loaded with awkward sentence structures and use of the passive voice. I was under the impression that MR was a legitimate well-run site but see now it is not (or was and is no longer). But if you want to know how to unlock your iPhone or check email on your phone they have nice long articles for that!

Yes, my friend! What is happening to this world? Are there no standards? Has the educational system failed completely ? It is an outrage, I say! The path forward is clear. I shall sit at my desk and write a forceful letter to the editor! I shall make myself heard! Yes, that is what I shall do. The situation is intolerable! This shall not stand!

Just do what everyone else does around here...read the headlines, skip the articles, and start making comments.

My dad has been months for a Note 7...he read about them blowing up and instantly asked me if I knew any rumors about the new iPhone.
Looks like he'll be getting an iPhone this time around.

Why the switch? He can swap out and get a new Note 7 and unless they release something different than the "leaks" no iphone can even compare to note 7. I have had every iPhone since the 3 and again they are so far behind the game and the sales and data prove that

Q1 2017 will be the biggest ever for Apple. One extra week will be the icing on the ginormous cake.

... or include wireless AirPods and ramp it up even more.

No, more likely Q4 2017 when the redesigned iPhone 8 is released. There will be an "explosion" of iPhone 6 and 6s owners wanting to upgrade to something that actually looks new and different. Wireless charging and an improved OLED display will be the icing on the cake.

Only difference in the two is the Note is slightly bigger and has a stylus

Isn't Samsung reporting like under 100 phones so far out of 2.5 million. Hardly worth the controversy IMO.

It's not the phones that have exploded so far that are the worry. It's the phones that haven't-- yet. That's 100 that have exploded within the first month of shipment, which is a frightfully high early indicator.

They are only increasing numbers in hope some note 7 owners will switch over. If not major changes are made I dont see rhe point. The iPhone is so far behind in many aspects. Being fanboys you may choose to ignore that but its been proven every year

An official recall wouldn't necessarily take months, but would have significant consumer and safety benefits, especially with such a major safety issue.

Then you must not realize how slow the government moves on this stuff. Sure Samsung could have just reported the issue to the CPSC and let them go through their "research" phase and do everything else required through the bureaucracy, but then we'd all be sitting on potentially defective phones until the feds decided to recall. Since the feds would then be in control the best Samsung could do is give us all cheap loaners until the whole mess was figured out.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't go through CPSC, but I understand why they didn't and as an effected owner I'm glad that I can easily either get my money back, get a different phone or get a fixed brand new Note 7. If the feds were involved we'd all be sitting in limbo while they determined the proper action and ran those findings though every govt channel. There are dangerous products that have taken years to get recalled through the govt process.

The thesis for this article makes no sense. The majority of existing Note 7 owners will have replacement units in their hands well before the first iPhone 7 ships, not to mention an inventory of units for new buyers. But sure, they'll all dump their Notes and stand in line at an Apple store to plop down $800 for a phone that is nearly identical to the last two generations, with the same low-res low-tech display, ginormous bezels, poor audio, and kiddie-walled-gardened operating system.

At this point, Samsung can counter iPhone 7 only by offering Note 7 by discounting their margins by few hundred bucks ! But the problem is that they need to do this across all product lines, otherwise, their other lines of products may look ridiculously expensive as compared with Note 7!! This time, Samsung lost the battle even before it started, OR the worst case scenario, Apple iPhone 7 has some very notable hardware issues like Antenna or Camera Module or bending issues or Touch ID (or related to Hardware)

Hmm I've seen this story on several sites, including Apple ones and this seems to be the only one claiming Apple has increased orders for the iPhone 7 because of the Note 7 recall...
Think that says it all, click bait.

I suspect that most that want to switch away from the note 7, they will pick another Android device, not iPhone 7. If they switch to another Android device, all their apps still work.

Agreed. Plus Samsung is offering a trade-in program where Note 7 owners can get a Galaxy 7 loaner while they wait for their Note 7 replacement.

For me it was never the case that IPhone 7 will not be attractive enough to buy, but more to do with the fact that my iPhone 6 is more more than enough to keep me satisfied until the major IPhone 8 release.

I can't afford to buy a new phone every year and so folk like me have to be a bit more tactical about spending decisions. I've decided I want the IPhone 8 with OLED display more than the iPhone 7.

Perfectly legit view and the iPhone 6 remains a very capable phone. We would all do well to resist the upgrade temptation on occasion.

Looks like samsung's rush to beat Apple to market totally blew up in their face.

It wasn't their rush that did them in but their desire to use batteries from their in-house division rather than their usual supplier. They did this as part of their strategy to vertically integrate to increase margins. Totally blew up in their face...pun intended :)

Humor eludes you.

Oh look, people taking isolated incidents of iPhones catching fire to deflect away from the Note 7 issue. Are you upset Samsung made a POS phone that has had such a high failure rate that Samsung had to issue a recall?

Correct. The Galaxy S is their best seller.

But totals of the Galaxy S and Note series combined are still dwarfed by the iPhone. Samsung has never sold a smartphone that comes anywhere near to iPhone levels of sales.

iPhone users can ALWAYS buy a new phone every year. Resale values are so good on used iPhones that it only costs me $300 (Canadian) a year to get the latest iPhone.

So I can spend $900 and keep my iPhone for 3 years or I can spend $300 a year (after selling my used one) and get a new one every year. The net cost is the same but I get the new st iPhone each year. Pretty simple math.
