And people would still complain about the lack of MMS or copy/paste... :D

Anyway, one thing's for sure, whatever breakthrough product Apple makes, people will be unhappy. There's always something wrong. "The CPU isn't a 3.0 QuadCore", "it does not ship with 4gb of RAM stock", "the GPU cannot "even" handle Crysis on medium-high".. I don't even understand why this gets hyped up, people are going to hate it when it is released. See "MacBook Air", "iPod", even the "iPhone" gets more crap than a lot of inferior products :p
LOL, "breaktrough products" – that choice of words really tells a lot …

Anyway, you're comparing complaining about lack of MMS, Copy/Paste, and, say, disk mode akin to your thought up examples of "4gb RAM", playing "crysis" and "a 3 GHz CPU"? You don't think that that's a bit unfair, considering that MMS, copy/pasting/disk mode and so on are basic features available in most any other product, even cheap arse products?

Yeah, that's a major transition. It's not like they do that every September, anyway.

At any rate, you forgot the classic. That'll either go to 100/160 or 120/240 (if those are done... are they done yet?)

Apple updates the store at 6:00 Cupertino time. It's not six yet.

Oh, my bad. :p

So how many hours left until they update the apple store?

The article doesn't give a really good reason why those transitions would impact the financials.

Why would a Macbook or Macbook Pro transition lead to hit on Apples revenue in Q4? A transition like the Intel transition or from MacOS 9 to MacOS X - there I can understand a hit.

Maybe they assume the new products are not appealing enough for the customers in the beginning, because they are too strange ? Like a Touch Mac ?

Most obvious would be:

(1) The technology they supply costs more than usual as a percentage of the selling price

(2) It involves an advance announcement that puts people off buying hardware/software until release

Hypotheses/Questions:

(1) Given that Apple have just bought a PowerPC chip manufacturer, have they come to the Intel platform to grab Windows and Linux users before doing a pied piper move and taking them all over to PowerPC? I doubt it but hey this is Apple. (Why not hack off Adobe even more.)

(2) Hypothesis: Snow Leopard requires program manufacturers to recode for a new file system and multiple cores (and is possibly going to be free).

(3) It is definitely labelled a transition, so is it a transition to multitouch screens? Would this dent income? Couldn't it be done one at a time in traditional Apple fashion? They could do the iMac and then pretend it wasn't worth doing on laptops, but then do it anyway.

(4) Release of OS X for PC denting revenues from hardware (or OS X allowed in PC virtualization environments/Boot Camp for Windows) - this is definitely something none of the competition can supply. They could put a checkbox on the next update of Safari for Windows that says download and install OS X.

Hello

here a newbie. I've read some of the posts, but I have one question that i couldn't find the answer to.

On august 12 my friend and i are taking a holiday in California. We're from Europe, so we thought that it would be a great oppurtunity to buy a macbook.

So what do you guys think? Do you think there will we a "new" macbook and so when will it come out, in august or later? and when in august?
And do you guys think i should wait or ...?

Thanks in advance!

When you say "Europe", what do you mean? I ask, because you have to consider that, say, a german keyboard is not the same as an american one.
It's propably not even a concern, I just wanted to mention it, just in case.

P.S. I have no idea when a new MB will be out.

Keyboards

a US english keyboard isnt even the same as a UK english keyboard - totally useable, but not the same.

Haha, that's right. I completely forgot about that. However, if you're german, danish, swedish (just examples), it sucks writing even on a UK-keyboard :(

i'm checking on the apple website every 5 minutes even though the chances are slim : (. i need a new macbook!

If anything is going to happen today, it will happen in 30 minutes time.

my laptop died and a need a new one, COME ON APPLE

LOL yeah - but probably not as much as if you're german, danish, swedish etc writing on a UK-iPhone-keyboard!

I just wish something like the 8400 128mb gpu was an option over the X3100 in the Macbooks or a cheaper Macbook Pro with a 13 inch screen.

I really want to replace my aging Compaq laptop and I don't really need a 8800+ gpu (thats what my gaming desktop is for) not to mention I really like the smaller 13 inch size. But I at least want my next notebook to handle WoW and possibly Diablo 3 at say 1280x800 medium settings and from what I've heard the X3100 is pretty sluggish in large cities (which means it probably would get creamed in the next expansion).

I think it would be OK for Apple to remove the optical drive in the laptops as long as they make an external optical drive that you can access over wi-fi. That would mean that you no longer need another computer and hopefully you can use it away from home.

God forbid I hope they never do that. If they do, then I'll forget about going to a mac, (I need a laptop) People use laptops on the go, they want the opical drive not to use some some other computers dirive or spend 100 bucks on an external one.

Just include it as a BTO option.

This is what I think might happen:
Apple transitions the iPod line into the Touch (or iTouch) line

Its not called iTouch, its called ipod touch

The nano and Classic would be rolled into an iPod touch lite, probably with a form factor between the sizes of the nano and classic. Primarily a music player, with no wi-fi support, just a multitouch media interface.

That could happen. I do see the click whell going away very soon. All the little 13 year olds would need to get used to it. they will wine, but oh well. they will learn they cant always get what they want

The current iPod touch might get a storage upgrade, and possibly some more hardware features (volume adjustment, etc).

I see the 8GB model being discountuned, along with the 16 and 32GB being dropped in price and a 64GB model being added. 64 will cost the same as the 32GB right now.

They would introduce a Tablet-like computer, smaller than a laptop but bigger than a iPod touch, with almost full support for Leopard but with some limitations.

why limtations? What size would this be?? 9 -12"

If you look at some of the recent patent filings, you can clearly see that Apple will release a line of Cameras.

I predict:

1) 1.3 Mega Pixel.

1.3? Come on they need to compete with the higher res cameras out there. 1.3 may have worked in 2001 but its 2008, give us a decent 10MP or more...

2) 1.125X Optical Zoom.

hmmmm great to take with you to Hawaii and only being able to take as far as a 6" infornt of you.

3) 2X Digital Zoom.

Really? There are cameras that go a lot higher then that. apple needs to compete with them not create a crappy product
4) Non-User Replaceable Battery.

knowing apple, I see this happen. But then again if they do put a user replacable battery I hope its lit-ion or what ever and NOT AA or AAA
5) No Built-in Flash or Video (Hey Apple needs rumor materials for the next year or so about when Flash and Video will be included).

hmmm with your predictions comming true, the rumor could be that apple makes a camera instead of a expensive toy
6) Only One button that does Power and Shutter. Multi-Touch controls that allows Face Selection, Rotation, Speed and Lighting setting selection, ect... and don't forget the "Pinch".

a bit to advanced for a camera. I'd like a physical zoom buttons...

7) The entire back of the camera is an LED lit, multi touch, 640X480 display.

i can see that
8) WiFi 802.11g connectivity and induction charging. Absolutely no wires needed.

wirelessly charging? a bit far to advance I should say. But wouldnt your 2001-ish camera not have wi-fi?

Available for immediate purchase online, at stores next week. Two Models - 8 GB for $599 and 16GB for $699

Therese comew with what memory? You said it doesnt have bulit in memory so? What kind? SD?

Isn't that a little.... underpowered for a a camera at that price these days?

My point exactly

hehe, I know, but it is thin and that's all that counts. Right?

There are thin cameras that do a lot better job now a days. 1.3 MP may be good for an isight web cam. But I'll be seeing a up-to-date i sight camera with HD

-Mac mini upgraded to use Centrino 2's chipset, X4000 series graphics,draft-N
-Combo drives may be disappearing-all Macs will now have Superdrives
-No mid-range tower

1. The mac mini will also get a total make over and a new name. "mac nano" or something that sort
2. I hope not. I still want an opical drive in the laptops like the MBP. If they remove it and make it like the air then I wont buy a mac. Just make it as a BTO option.
3. Yeah I dont see a mid range tower happening keep dreaming kids...
Displays:
-Be more energy efficient
-LED backlit panels in 2009 maybe
-No iSights-privacy concerns for corporate usuage[/QUOTE]

1. Of course
2. Why not now?
3. Perhaps. And what if some dont want a camera on their LCD?

Not to be negative, but does "new products" really have to mean a product not yet in Apple's lineup? Take the last time the MacBooks were updated, the tag in the online store read "New" not "Updated."

Maybe the reference to outstanding new products just means significant updates to products they've already had. I don't see a pupose for a tablet slightly larger than the iPhone, its too in-between to be effective.

However, being that Apple has been extremely successful with both their notebooks and the multi-touch technology, I wouldn't be suprised to see a refresh of the MacBooks and MacBook Pros containing a much more capable multi-touch trackpad or screen.

The MacTablet, the xMac... PEOPLE. THIS ^ is what they're talking about. Come ON.

oh **** serious? for stating his rumor as a fact?

Oh, heavens, no. If that were the case, hundreds of people (like arctic) would be banned.

No, I don't know why he was banned, as that's between him and the mods, but it wasn't for that.

Cloud computing

Hi,

I am new to the site.

I think the new product is going to be a Atom based less than $300 mini laptop with very little hard drive memory, but will include a year free subscription to MobileMe.

No upfront revenue, but lot of potential downstream revenue.
This will be the future of computing.

Probably mentioned in the 18+ pages, but I'd like to see the hybrid laptop-tablet, where the keyboard supposedly swings around. Or, how about some kind of iPhone computer docking. Oh, I dunno. Looking for something cool and new and really not yet out there by the competitors.

Ok, all that said, Hey MacRumors!! Why is the text area for posting replies only about 3 columns wide? I'm typing on a WinXP machine at work (IE7).
