Cloud computing

I envision a mini computer with relative slow but efficient processor, small screen and virtually no hard disk drive. It works hand and hand with MobileMe which will serve as the virtual HD.

It would serve as the computer for the masses, and the business model would be much like cableTV.

I think your post is disgusting. Everyone who needs to know about Steve Jobs' health knows about it. The number is not very large. I'd say it's Steve Jobs, wife, children and GP.

I have to stick up for DigitalBiker - when the company's situation is so wrapped up in one individual, his health ceases to be a "private" matter.

just my $.02

Am I right in guessing that if this transition really will impact Apple's next quarterly results, it will have to be out by the end of september, right? Which, leaving 3-4 weeks lead time for the announcement of the event, means we should have sound speculation by MR, AI and 9to5Mac on what is by the end of August, if not sooner.

New MBP?

I hope for a new MacBook Pro perhaps with Blu Ray, ditching DVI for HDMI, SSD, Possible WiMax support....

Given Jobs' comment that Apple's competitors won't be able to compete on feature/price level, that leads me to think we are going to see a top to bottom reshuffle of the notebook deck (all with LED backlit LCD):

Mac Tablet, probably 10"-11" all screen device, $1800

MacBook Air, just like current model at $1000-$1200

MacBook Air II, 128gb SSD or 200gb HD, up to 4gb, at $2000

MacBook 13", aluminum, DVD, 250gb, no NVidea, $1500

MacBook 15", up to 320gb, 4gb ram, thinner & lighter, NVidea 256k, $2200

MacBook 17", up to 500gb, 4gb ram, BTO Blu-ray, NVidea 512k, $2700

Now how's that for dreaming and a cohesive product line. Stevie J, my number is 555-666-9999 when you're ready to talk...

PS - the Mac Tablet slides into an iMac type enclosure for docking and 24" monitor support...:D

LOL yeah - but probably not as much as if you're german, danish, swedish etc writing on a UK-iPhone-keyboard!

Accents, umlauts etc. are no big problem. Put your finger on a letter, wait half a second, and a menu with all the variations of the letter pops up.

They're saying the product transition will put their products at prices the competition can't touch. This reminded me that, hey, Apple's monitors are OVERPRICED! Maybe the product transition they're talking about will be new displays priced down to today's standards with an HD iSight built in!

I can't see the Macbook Pro being talked about as something with a competetive price point. It has to be either new displays which are in desperate need of being competitively priced, or one of their cheaper products, like the Mac Mini or the Macbook.

Who knows. Maybe "product transition" means changing the Mac Mini from a teeny, proprietary square, to a low-priced, nicely-performing mATX or midtower. Not hoding my breath.

Given Jobs' comment that Apple's competitors won't be able to compete on feature/price level, that leads me to think we are going to see a top to bottom reshuffle of the notebook deck (all with LED backlit LCD):

Not making fun of you now, but just pointing out that it's NVIDIA, and if 256k and 512k refer to graphics RAM or the memory interface, it's more like 256mb and 512mb.
But that doesn't look like competitive pricing to me.

wow that's exciting! are there any confirmed rumors on actual new products? like with more details?

Apple's financial results conference call today was littered with references to future products coming from Apple. While some degree of optimism ("very excited about future") is the norm during these financial results calls, there was more discussion than usual about possible new products in today's results.

Steve Jobs first suggests in the initial press release that Apple is "busy finishing several more wonderful new products to launch in the coming months."

Meanwhile, in the conference call, Apple executives repeatedly referred to a "product transition" that may affect Q4 revenue numbers. Typically, "product transitions" represent existing product line revisions. In this case, the MacBook and MacBook Pro have been widely expected to be revised in the coming months with both models starting to approach the end of their lifecycles. Intel has conveniently released a new processor and chipset that could be used in the new Apple laptops.

Apple also described their formula for introducing "state of the art new products at prices their competitors can't match". They explain that these new products introduce new "technologies and features" (like the iPhone), justifying their initial higher prices. Over time, they expect to take advantage of scale and engineering to drive prices down. Apple suggested that they would follow this formula again and are "very excited" about what they have in their new product pipeline. Rumors have suggested that Apple may introduce a 12" or 13" Mac tablet later this year (September or October). Another possibility: rumors of a smaller PDA-like device that is 1.5x larger than the existing iPhone.

Apple needs better stock headphones-at least bundle premium quality in-ears with more expensive iPods

So True! I would Love that! I can't stand the stock earphones the ship with the touch. They don't fit my ear s and always pop out! Not every ones ears are the same size and there's no way of adjusting the fit! ;)

I'm hoping for two things:

..12 inch Macbook Pro to replace the Powerbook G4.
..MobileMe problems finally fixed.

(But I'm not holding my breath for either to happen) ;)

I wish... But I think the MBP won't get any smaller than 15".
Maybe a MBA, possibly a MB but no MBP... Dargn, I wish I'm wrong...

I sorry but what is with the total obsession that some people have with BlueRay??? in my opinion a blue ray drive has no business being inside a mbp. Perhaps i could see it as a BTO option for the mac pro but it just is not practical for notebooks

I no longer buy DVD's since I bought my PS3. I might as well buy the Bluray movies since I have a 56" 1080p TV and all. I'd also like to watch thise same movies on my nice 15.4" screen when I travel but alas, I cannot. I can't even make a digital copy to go so I am doubly screwed. I'd like to at least bring some disks with me so that I can watch movies. :)

LOL... :)
I though nobody was using them anymore... I got earphones that are still in their original packages from my last 2 iPods...

Blu ray in new MBPs is basically a must considering every other laptop over £600 has it already.

MBPs should be finally given a high end GPU. Puny bullcrap like the 9600M GT will be a massive massive disappointment.

It will be a new Apple TV set top, with Tivo type functions (seen in previous patent apps) and possible sling box type function to iphone. I believe this because it would be a transitional product that has more mass product appeal that would directly effect the cost margins at that volumn of sales. The price point will drop to better the new Netflix/Amazon boxes that are showing up at bargin market share grabing prices. The tivo and sling functions would best the other boxes out there right now in price and function. This also explains why Apple wont let sling box in as an apple app for the iphone. Apple TV with tivo and sling brings together all their software and hardware, Movies (itunes) to stream to iPhone, connected to the livingroom as well, with a larger mass market appeal for a catagory of product that has yet been exploited effectively by competition. A new laptop would still command top margins.

I think I just pitched a tent. :)

That's EXACTLY what I would want. It's like AppleTV, SlingBox and Tivo had a 3some!

My guess is iphone nano....Apple specifically changed the form of the last nano so it no longer took a phone shape...the new iphone nano will be 4gb and 8gb nano that is also a phone stripped down, 4gb for 99 8gb for 129, apple sells a bazillion of them for christmas

ipods always get updated after labor day

Earphones?!?!?!?

LOL... :)

Hey, Morespce54... I love the earphones that come with the iPods, I'd be happy to take them from you (or even buy them) :) ...

send me a Message and we'll talk more

Please, Apple, give the iPod TOuch a volume rocker and the play-pause button in the earbuds. It's just wrong having to pull out the thing out of the pocket and unlock the screen to change volume or play/pause...

I also hope they give the iPod Touch the same shuffle features that the iPod Classic/Nano has - the ability to Shuffle Albums. I can't for the life of me understand why that feature was left off both the Touch & iPhone.
