13.3" MacBook ------>12.1" MacBook (same design as iBook G4)
13.3" Black MacBook-------> 12.1" MacBook Pro (12" PowerBook G4 replacement)
15.4 MacBook Pro-------> 15.2" MacBook Pro (same design as 15" PowerBook G4)
is what I dream...

But will the 12.1" MacBook have the same square screen like the iBook and the 14" PowerBook. I never liked those for some odd reason. I like 13.3" and all the other notebooks. They are all widescreen.

Fun, but USELESS

Found these pics on Gizmodo!, I really hope this is what apple has in-store for us!

The Source who reported the Macbook Touch said these would be the specs

"Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured multi-touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion's haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at "low" price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will.

I really hope this happens! Please apple please!

I know I'd prefer a normal, likely more powerful and economical laptop ANY DAY. Do you really think those things would move? What would be their purpose? It seems to me that such a product is only a gimmick. Think back to the Tom Cruise film, "Minority Report" where Cruise manipulates objects on a holographic 3D screen with his hands. While that kind of user interface is undoubtedly SICKNASTY, it also seems very inefficient for data input and the like. Until we can hook computers to our brains for data input, the keyboard seems like the best data input device available (voice to text is nice, but can't be used in silence). Though those things would be really fun to play with, I can think of only very few specialized uses for such devices. [Writing music using some stylus would be kind of fun; something like that already exists though.] And even if you could connect them up to a normal keyboard and mouse, what would be the point of spending all that money for a less powerful, and less useful computer?

If you want a highly portable computer, I maintain that the Asus Eee and the MBA are the two best options.

and we are moving to all widescreen. you wont find a 4:3 standard screen here.

Tablet is a crappy idea. The only people I have seen using tablets are doctors and the dude who measured on of my apartments for a carpet install. I think all of you want a tablet as long as someone else has to use it.

Of course Apple is getting big enough that they might need a tablet to fill out for niche markets. But its just wont be an important product if measured by units shipped.

I'll throw my guess into the ring:

Gaming console to replace AppleTV

1) Subsidized gaming console would negatively impact their gross margins as they have suggested
2) They have the OS, OSX/iPhone, that people already develop games for
3) They have the online community, MobileME
4) They have the App store and Itunes for online sales of games
5) They need AppleTV to play games if they want to compete with Playstation and Xbox for Downloadable Movies
6) Games is the next logical home entertainment market to attack after music, movies and TV shows.
I think your idea has merit, but I don't know if it would be wise of Apple to release a game system with no games. The idea that it can play games made for the iPhone means that the system would need a touch screen type controller. And that the games them selves would have to be scaled for a big screen (which may or may not make some games look like poo).

Now if they billed it as an AppleTV that could also play some games, then maybe I could see them sneaking some games in. But as often as Apple likes to revise hardware, I am not sure if the console business is a good fit for Apple.

Hopefully it has at least 3 USB, 1 or 2 FW400, 1 FW800/or even better eSata, and the specs of maybe the macbook under the blackbook. If it has all of that, Im so sold.

and an optical drive please. world is not ready for what hte air has

I seen college students use them. Even some everyday users. You mean to tell me you go to every doctor in town to see if they have a tablet? need a life? call me and i'll set you up with one.

To you maybe. Apple needs a tablet to compete with those windows tablets

I see an actual TV replacing the apple TV with the apple TV features (with added on DVR, and dual TV tuner. Blu-Ray in 2009. What large 42" plasma also has an OS with bulit in DVR, dual TV tuner, blu-ray and may be even a computer?

Reason apple wont do a gaming system because hardcore gamers wont want to play these super money balls they want to play stuff like halo or combat ot what ever its called.

so keep dreaming kid...

Yeah I agree ^ the tablet definitely needs an optical drive!

I know these tablet rumors have been around for years, but now seems like the perfect time, what with snow leopard being released next year, which has multi-touch enhancements.

Another apple event in September will include the traditional iPod refresh which will probably be fairly modest this year, including mostly storage increases on iPod touch and iPod nano (and maybe iPod classic), new or multi color options for the nano and shuffle, and maybe small hardware changes to the iPod touch like a volume rocker. Of course there will be some type of small added software features to the nano and classic but I have no clue on that.

What would they be able to increase the storage on the iPod classic to? Is there anyone making a 1.8" drive larger than 160GB that's ready to be used for manufacturing?

Well, the tablet better be light, and have grips on the back so the tablet doesn't slip out of your hands and shatter.
Anyway, a tablet Mac just doesn't appeal to me.

the next mac will have a touch screen with 1080i resolution and most likely, from what ive gathered, a hdmi port, blu-ray support, and some way of interacting with the tv. also a touch power button and brightness button which would lead to the conclusion of a touch keyboard as well. thats all that ive come up with so far, and hopefully will be back with more news later.

oh and if ur wondering how i no this, its because in the system files of snow leopard theres a new folder that contains a ton of plugins for a touch screen and several other features that im still trying to figure out. And sorry, i cant really proove this due to apple but anyone elese with snow leopard please feel free to validate [ and the ability to rotate the screen is also true] - see picture :D:apple:

No it's not. Not even if you like percentages. Think about it.
No, it's not.

1.5x = 150%
0% larger than X = 1.0x the size of X (the same size as X)
50% larger than X = 1.5x the size of X
150% larger than X = 2.5x the size of X

I agree with this completely. The most niche product Apple will release for quite some time is the Apple TV. A tablet makes no sense at all. If it's only 50% bigger than the iPhone then what benefit would it have? It wouldn't be easier to type on, that's for sure. If the screen is the size of an Eee then what is the point of the touch screen interface when a proper keyboard could easily be incorporated.

Apple's current touch screen interfaces are there to get around existing problems caused by size. Outside of this they have few applications. And they'd complicate Apple's lineup.

Apple won't do this. And I pray they won't because it'd inhibit their share value.

I see this being the next imac revision. Revision meaning a whole new look. Current imacs have the imac G5 style, just thinner and a new case. Next major revision/redesign may come in 2010 at the latest With a touch control on the font just wave your hand and controls are brought up there you just control by touching the screen. I also see some kind of ambient light sensors in the imac to control the brightness automatically based on the lighting in the room. (Meaning a dark room will brighten the screen as a bright room will darken the room. There will be around 4 or 5 presets for display such as "movie" (great for watching movies) Text (for typing a lot) photo (A high contrast, high color mode alows for a great viewing of photos) and a custom mode. LED display, and following the next revison after this one may have OLED (2012/2013)

They got some competition now with HPs revision of the touch smart PC. That one beats the XPS one hands down. Apple's imac , while it looks nice, doesnt compare to HP's and apple would need to get in the ball game again and add multi-touch as well as a software peace that will beat HP's pre-loaded multi-touch software (as seen in the ads). This software may be part of the rumored "iLife/iWork merge" and will include a UI much like the iphones, just in a bigger, more advance mode that will alow the use of bigger screens. They could also use the front row UI.Hey,m if apple does go multi-touch in the OS, they may need a spechiel program as I dobut the entire os will be multi-touch only. Keyboards and mice will still be around for may be another 10-15 years, expect they will get smaller, more advanced. I've seen keyboards out there, that not only run off blue tooth, but wi-fi have mini LCD screens and can open 20 or more applacations at once. So they wont go away for a while

Yes. I actually want square screens again.

e-bay is your friend. The world hgas gone to widescreen. so much better. have more programs on at once. I dont understand why anyone would want to go back to the old 4:3

Applications like iLife and iWork would be able to work on a 5.5" display than on a 3.5" without running into serious size problems.

And a 5.5" screen is 2.5x as big as a 3.5" screen, at least from the mockup AppleInsider posted about the mini-tablet ("1.5x the size" is one-dimensional).

I can appreciate your thoughts. However, I could see this being use by real estate agents, medical professional, trainers, people in art gallery, and any one who wants to make a first "wow" impression.

What size problems would they currently run into? I have no problems running google documents on my iPod touch, because the device is designed for reading pages of text. And productivity apps are even easier on windows mobile devices with smaller screens, because they have a keyboard. Which is the most limiting factor (not that I consider it particularly burdensome). I also don't think a 5.5" is big enough for heavy productivty usage when you have an on-screen keyboard (okay so by area it's 2.5x the size, but it's still not huge).

Also, to appeal to the limited number of people that would want this it'd have to have good connectivity, in my mind it'd have to be a mobile. So it becomes a bigger iPhone and so doesn't improve marketshare.

Tablets are just a bad idea, whether they're windows or mac based. They've never worked and that's not because they've been missing something, it's because smaller devices are perfectly adequate (if they weren't then smartphones would just be bigger).

People would buy these to impress other people? That's a very small demographic.

Naw, real estate agents are in the thousands, not to mention all of the medical professionals. The wow factor I was thinking of was in the minority. :)

Hm, there's no question in my mind that Jobs has seen the eee PC. And while he's clearly not a fan of 11- to 12-inch computers, or we would have had one long ago, I think he's taken it as a personal challenge to build the coolest small Mac we have ever seen.

When Jobs was told that ASUS shipped 350,000 eee PCs in its first shipment, he was able to imagine right away how he could brilliantly milk the Mac installed base one more time, like he's already done twice with the iPhone. :D

You can count on a miniBook in the very near future. ;)

A miniBook with a screen with the same resolution as the touch (160 something dpi) would be fantastic.

Hmm, what if they could bring out a large display with that resolution too? Would be awesome.

Okay guys...what are the advantages of having t tablet? Sure, a touch screen with a fold behind keyboard (like the Lenovo Thinkpad X61) would be nice, and may I add, more probable, but seriously, what's wrong with the solid-state keyboards? And do go iPhone on me, iPhone is great and phones should not have solid state keyboards, but laptops should.
