13.3" MacBook ------>12.1" MacBook (same design as iBook G4)
13.3" Black MacBook-------> 12.1" MacBook Pro (12" PowerBook G4 replacement)
15.4 MacBook Pro-------> 15.2" MacBook Pro (same design as 15" PowerBook G4)
is what I dream...

So, let's face it: What can the Newton do what the iPhone can't?

As I presumed, seeing that you two weren't even willing to think about, but blurted out nonsense about the monochrome screen and the stylus, you really don't have a clue.
I will give you the same advice as a gave your friend: Do some research before your blurt out that the Touch is not only a pda, but can do more than the Newton.

How hard can it be to do a google search?

Too hard, apparently, so here are some pointers:

My Guess

I guess that a macbook will cost 1000 and a macbook pro will cost 1799 and the macbook air will be gone. There will be a new product called the macbook touch which will start at 1499.

Personally, I'd be amazed if Apple came out with a tablet. I just can't see Apple having styli. Besides, they just came out with the MacBook Air. It's too soon for Apple to come out with ANOTHER line of Portable computing.

However, upgrades and re-vamps of the MacBook and MacBook Pro I can see

The problem in the past is that it tries to do handwriting recognition. What I'd like to see is just ordinary treating writing input like someone drawing on a virtual notepad; and just leave it in its natural state rather than trying to transform it into letters.

multitouch cinema displays

In addition to the multitouch tablet (Macsi pad), Apple will introduce a touch cinema display. It's software will be entirely controlled by the desktop OS to which it's connected, so it needs snow leopard to include multitouch support. Obviously, since you'll want to hold it in your lap while sitting at your desk (where it's wired to your tower, or mini mac), it won't be more than 17 inches. It'll be easily removed from its cradle. Of course, the Macsi pad doesn't require wires and could do the same thing, but is a whole new computer.

So, as I think about it, instead of an imac, an entry level user could buy the new mini, keyboard, mouse, and 17" wired cinema multitouch. Same price as imac? That's a low margin, HUGE seller.

just thought of this, could the reason apple chose not go use the name "iTV" on their apple TV be because they are in fact planing on creating an actual LCD/plasma TV? This could be a 42" TV and will incorporate the apple TV front row software, wi-fi ambient lighting with LED "mood" lights on the side. (Have a blue or green lights on the side with option to turn them off of course. Bulit in dock to charge your ipod, (with models dating as far back as at least 2006) and iphone models to 2007. computer hookups . All TVs would have LED bulit in.. Will resemble the imac a bit along with the ipod touch/iphone.

Prices could start at 1899

iTV has a slight resemblance to ITV, a major UK channel, which wouldn't be great...

hmmm alrightty then, stupid British/UK people people they ruin everything

The Americans still get the credit for ruining the English language.

I think this will be a software product. Specifically, I think iLife and iWork will come bundled together in a new package. Apple doesn't want to depend on Microsoft for the Office suite (and iWork beats Office 2008 IMO anyway).

I don't think iWork is making the kind of returns Apple would like. By bundling the two together, they would potentially make more money, although margins would be hit somewhat. Higher profits would mean Apple could invest more in the software suites, and make them a much more competent package.

The iLife software is nice, but could do with some significant changes. iPhoto is a bit of a pain to work with, especially for switchers. It really could do with a better interface for organising libraries, and more advanced editing tools. iWeb, too, could be significantly expanded by making greater use of SproutCore and AJAX for created web pages, although that too would require some significant interface changes.

The problem is that without significant revenue coming from the suite, Apple can't really justify large investments in the long-term. Bundling iLife and iWork, together with revamping the applications, could create significant interest in the product, and increase volume at the expense of margins. Increasing profit in this way would make future investment in the suites a much more sensible idea.

Yeah, that'd be sweet!

Apple could call it the.........

iPad!

or

iNote!

lol, that would deff be awesome to use however, it would have to figure out that the stylus is touching the screen opposed to the resting of your hand while writing or doodling or wtvr

Not looking at all pages of this thread (maybe 12-15), I haven't seen anyone mention OS X... for PC.

I know, longshot but someone had to say it.

What about big screen TVs with :apple:TV built-in? It's an old rumor, but it does expand on the "livingroom" strategy. (.Chris above is thinking like me!)

Another wild card would be.... iSteve, the Mr. Data of Mr. Jobs, to start "shadowing" it's master and learning how to command the reality-distortion field, for the day our beloved REAL Steve steps down. ...a key product transition. :D

BREAKING NEWS! Apple To Introduce New iPhone.

A solar-powered, earth-friendly, organic iPhone. As not to confuse consumers with the current "energy-wasting 3G" model, Apple will name this one gPhone, as in greenPhone.

 :D

and yet we dont sound like we belong to some rich family, drink tea and wear fancy chothes. I dont get how you guys got the accent. Rev. war got to you people

I think your right. It will also add a few new apps. Maybe a app like the microsoft expression suites for graphic and web design perhaps.

Offer a basic package and a "premium" package. Not 5 million like microsoft does. Basic package will include all up-to-date ilife programs and iwork programs. Set price at $99. The Premium package will have the same as above but a few new apps, advance support as well as a free trial or discount off mobile me and other services apple may have in store. (online versons of ilife and iwork perhaps?

Dell would be the best one to do it with IF they were to do it. Dell fans want apple osx on the systems, I could care less but it might create problems cuz people will ruin their systems tring to export it to their HP, custom tower etc. this is why its not such a good idea/

Apple did have a "TV" conecpet before. It ran an a mac performa slate black as well as an "apple TV" concepct before about the size of todays macbooks. Wouldnt be a bad idea. Whjat other plasma TV has wi-fi, and an computer OS bulit in? Some people need to think of the bigger picture and get outside apples current line up

What is the main thing the Touch and iPhone lack? A "good" digital camera. Apple will unveil a new iPod Touch with an advanced digital camera on both the front and the back. The camera on the back will be for pictures and video, the camera will be at least 6 megapixels, it will have 3x optical zoom, a flash

Nice thinking outside the square. Time for an integrated consumer HD video & still camera you think? Could be interesting.

a more stripped down iphone as far as phone/network features go (simple calling and texting), but with all the wi-fi features of the ipod touch. i think a lot of people (myself included) would love an iphone without the expensive data plans

2G technologies are much cheaper and smaller than 3G. When the iPhone went 3G, it's almost surprising that Apple didn't keep the old iPhone as the iPod Touch. That's basically what you're asking, isn't it?

On a related note... a new product area that Apple could OWN....
... how about home cordless iPhones using VoIP (and an Airport Extreme).

Just a wifi chipset (no phone chip, no bluetooth) connected to a VoIP provider, transfer calls between iPhones easily, run apps (including remote app to control iTunes or AppleTV). Sell in bundles with a low margin and as a replacement to iPod Touch.

(however, I still think it's touch Macs everywhere)

Brilliant.

Now whip up a wind-powered version and you can sell it to T. Boone Pickens.

* 720x480 ipod touch ( with actual 16:9 screen ) with a 200GB harddrive instead of flash, with an component and HDMI out port so you can take your entire movie collection with you wherever you go.

So you want rectangle pixels? What's the point of that? Surely you mean 848x480 for true 16:9?

I would never buy such a portable device with a hard drive of that density. Imagine a small tap, knock and it's forked. Flash is the future. Hard drive developing should have been stopped years ago.

Joshua.

Realistic Changes

Rather than getting my hopes up on some product that will likely not show up for a while now, this is probably what will happen in the coming months.

First of all, there will be an apple media event in august where MacBooks and/or MacBook pros will be redesigned. This redesign will include aluminum casings (probably available in colors for the MacBook), a more easily removable battery, a black backlit keyboard, a slightly thinner and more tapered design, a multi-touch trackpad, the montevina chipset, a better screen, and getting rid of the combo drive. There will also probably be a price drop on certain models of about $100. The MacBook will still come in a 13 inch model and possibly in 12 or 14 inch models. MacBook pro will come in the 15 and 17 inch model and maybe a 12 or 13 inch model too. For now, BluRay is wishful thinking unless it is unveiled on a high end MacBook pro. Although it seems unlikely, the Mac Mini may be updated too, but that's about it.

Another apple event in September will include the traditional iPod refresh which will probably be fairly modest this year, including mostly storage increases on iPod touch and iPod nano (and maybe iPod classic), new or multi color options for the nano and shuffle, and maybe small hardware changes to the iPod touch like a volume rocker. Of course there will be some type of small added software features to the nano and classic but I have no clue on that.

But as far as touchscreen macs, itablets, and the long-awaited Newton replacement go, you'll have to wait for macworld 2009 to speculate for something like that (as well as Apple TV and ACD revisions which I am really ready for!).
