What makes you think that? Snow Leopard is not final yet so why do you assume that it won't have touchscreen support when it's final?
Apple could add it to Snow Leopard.
Wouldn't Apple have to show touchscreen support to developers first?

A PDA bigger than the iPhone/iPod touch probably wouldn't sell unless it's really good...
iLife and iWork support?

I would guess that Apple will be "transitioning" all of their software products to Intel-only, starting in Q4. They've already announced that the next version of OSX will abandon PPC, so I would expect that iLife, iWork and the Pro-tools suites will all go Intel-only with the next upgrade.

This would affect revenues negatively due to the smaller potential pool of buyers for these products, but it would aid Apple in the long run as they are able to add new revenue-generating features to the products, and lower development/service costs of having a single platform to support.
This sounds most sensible.

Haven't track pads been Touch- forever?
You know what I mean. :D

I sure hope it is something more exciting than that... BOORRRING!

12" MBP, please! :D

I have seen many people "request" a 12" model, but I can't see why? Not trying to be difficult here, but what is the allure of a 12" model? Is it the size, and the portability, or both? I just never have been a fan of the 12" models as working on them is a bear.

Very good point.

What did happen? Nothing big. The iPhone was already released. We just got the MBA and a few updates along the way to the computer lineup.
And lets not forget the iPod touch...

Anyway, I can't wait to see what the near future brings us...

I believe you actually. This could be the scary truth behind all of this.

I want this:

14-patentc-1.gif

(from an Apple patent)

I mean, look at it. Usually, Apple's patent pictures are not this accurate. There's a lot of design in this thing. Rounded edges, the Macbook-style indentation on the bottom of the display to unfold the thing. I guess this is also a perfect place for the cooling vents.

I'd imagine the actual computer is in the display since those sliding hinges are tough to put display cables into. Keyboard could be bluetooth. Notice the lack of a trackpad. If this thing gets made, I bet it would look awesome. I want one now!

Blue-ray across all Macs would be a major transition - especially if didn't all get updated at the same time. A bit like the move to Intel processors, the last one to get updated (Mac Pro I think in the case of Intel) loses out big time because everyone is waiting for the new version.

I had expected Apple to introduce Blue-ray as a BTO on the Mac Pro by January at the latest (Jan 2008) - at a premium price. With Blue-ray being so over-due on the Mac, I'm wondering if they'll just go ahead and introduce it across the range - or at least all except the cheapest MacBook/iMac/Mac Mini.

I would guess not since HP has released one (a touch screen computer, I saw the commercial a few minutes ago) So this may be a giant surprise and allow the developers access shortly after

Power in a small package. Is that so hard to understand? We want a small footprint, and yet nice system specs. The 15.4" MBP is just too big. And the Macbook, with no dedicated GPU and lower specs, underperforms.

Makes sense. I guess I am jaded since I had to replace the MLB on the older models. Talk about a touch repair.

Reason for lower guidance

Here's my theory... the holiday and back to school seasons are coming up and they need to update the iPod line to keep it fresh and drive continued sales. I believe that they are going to drop the iPod Video/Classic line and revamp the Touch to replace them. I envision a flash model as well as a high capacity disk version. The Nano and shuffle will probably remain or have minor updates to fill out the lower end of the line.

With the advent of the App Store, the iPod/iPhone lines are becoming more and more like little computers in your pocket. This is the kind of vision that will keep Apple far ahead of the competition.

Now imagine if Apple decides to defer revenue from sales of these new iPods in the same way that they do the phones. This will move a significant amount of revenue that the analysts are assuming Apple will earn into future quarters. This could very easily explain why their guidance is so low!

Okay, a tablet I can see a market for.
People would be all over that.... but a PDA like device?
Do people even use PDAs anymore that are not also a cell phone?

I'm hoping there is a price drop across all notebooks. If they do end up going with aluminum in the macbooks this could help to cut manufacturing costs as there would be more consistency across all models.

Regardless, I will be purchasing my first Mac (Macbook Pro) once the line is updated in the coming months, but it would be nice to save a little money when that does happen.

I would buy a 12" MBP.
I definitely agree that computing on a bigger screen is much easier and convenient, but the portability of a 12" professional computer is even more convenient, in my opinion.
I bought a MacBook over a MacBook Pro simply due to portability.

That's definitely possible, but I'm talking about OS-level, not the add-on stuff HP has. The other thing is that I don't think we've had any rumors (just analyst/patent stuff) about multi-touch display Macs.

How is Blu-ray a major transition, especially when Apple's moving away from optical media?

Think of it this way.

A larger iPod touch or iPhone with iLife and iWork capabilities.

A tablet, unless Apple's been cooking something secretly, will be expensive (MacBook specs for MacBook Air/Pro price) and/or have poor OS X UI - multi-touch integration.

Please, Apple, give the iPod TOuch a volume rocker and the play-pause button in the earbuds. It's just wrong having to pull out the thing out of the pocket and unlock the screen to change volume or play/pause...

PDA = iphone/ipod touch. No reason to add another device that small into the mix, they would overlap in too many ways.

For me, the price is crucial. If the MBP is cheap enough, I might sell my MB and upgrade to it. If it isn't, I'll keep my MB and buy a HP notebook for games. I'll be using Windows for games anyway, but it sure would be nice to have just one machine, not two.

I'm tellin ya it's a new HD Cinema Display. One that may well be 42" with built in WiFi and Snow Leopard.

Controlled with the Remote app. or the touch of your finger.

I'm usually one year ahead in predictions and I've been predicting this for a while.
;)

I am feelin this idea. iPhone really closed a lot of 'gaps' between devices. I see there is a nice spread of devices and accessories right now for connecting data over wifi, and wired video feeds to and from laptop/desktop/ipod/iphone/tv/appletv

It makes sense to me to close that gap, give a device which is compatible with all of the above, and give it a front row touch screen custom UI to sync all of these devices and data on one large MacTabbulous display. Just to put the real burn on.. it should also usurp traditional PC displays and LCD tvs. why not??

That would be really nice. Especially as I'll be getting an iPod Touch after the next revision.

Even after BB stopped carrying pdas, except Palms, I used to sell quite a few to people who didn't want phones in their pdas. Luddites. :D The TX model with wifi was the most popular. :D

My money is on new iPod Touch models including one with a much bigger screen, GPS, and built-in microphone/video camera for portable iChat. Resolution should be around 800x600.

iPod touch is first and foremost a MUSIC PLAYER! iPhone has more freedoms

1. GPS - Nope they would have to make it thicker like the 3G and Apple will not start making all their products thicker.

2. Mic/Camera - Come On!!! hey will not push the features of the iPhone and Touch that close together they have to divide why you should buy an iPhone or a touch or even both.

3. Resolution may be better but for easier production the iPhone/touch screens would remain simliar

I think they will make the back curve like the iPhone but still the same thickness at the tallest point (makes it look even thinner) and maybe MAYBE get rid a the chrome back for who knows what , anything else would be great. the front bezel might be small , like they did with the iPhone 3G, price drops and new storage capacities
