If I were Apple I would offer an exchange program for an iPhone 4 with a coated antenna then resale the "death grip" phones in China.

Apple appeases their US customers, double's their international market share, and profits. It's win-win.

Well, except for the Chinese.

I don't understand why people feel the need to overly express themselves on an issue that can't/won't get fixed. Just return it and get your money back.

Amen brother, Amen. As the saying goes, "opinions are like ... , EVERYBODY has one"

I think Appe will give Apple Store credit for the price of a bumper. Or at least I hope they do cause I bought one.

Steve Job's Statement During the Announcement on Friday:

"What users have been experiencing is a feature that is truly magical & revolutionary, hanging up on calls by a simple positioning of your hand"

I'm sorry, I had to :)

If only software could magically fix signal issues. Unfortunately, RF doesn't quite work like that. Even with hardware amplifiers, if you weaken a signal because of a hardware issue (be it a resistance inline with your receiver or an issue with the receiver itself) you'll be reamplifying the noise along with the signal, making your now stronger signal much noisier.

Software doesn't get access to the signal until it has been processed by a sort of DSP or other hardware signal processor. That hardware can't process what isn't there.

There is no software fix for detuned antennas. You can pad all the error correction you want, No signal is No signal.

That's not necessarily true.

We are dealing with a digital radio, either you have enough signal or you don't. If your hand impedes signal or detunes the antenna and the radio firmware has a a very high threshold of successful bits to bad bits, the radio won't connect and it reports 0 bars in the display. Even though the successful data rate is good enough for the radio to operate.

If the firmware is changed to except a more normal rate of bad bits to good bits then the radio will work with a detuned antenna and it will now report 2 or 3 bars.

I'm sorry too. That was really quite stupid.

I absolutely don't think that apple will give out free bumpers. All that will do is make certain that there's problem and show that apple isn't going to actually fix it. My prediction is FULL RECALL. There's nothing else they can do. Period. Recalling 2 million phones isn't too large of a dent for a company with the cash reserves that apple has.

may be iPhone know it is a wrong call or it is your ex husband/wife :p

This press conference will be nothing more than Apple justifying their upcoming software fix for the antenna issue. I see nothing more than this coming from the press conference.

The phone is flawed or at least mine and many others are! However it's the only flaw as otherwise it's an amazing device just not quite living up to it's purpose as a phone!

So, as is, is it worth $199 (or $299) to you or not?

If not, return it.

You could easily buy an 8GB 3GS or one of several Android devices for the amount of the refund or less, if you think that's a better use of your money.

IMO, all products are flawed (just wait and compare them with the next years/decades versions); so it's just a matter of the product's good/bad trade-offs versus the money spent.

I live in NYC. . . self explanatory.
I'm just not the type to talk/whine about things I can't change.

When I get my White model; and If I have the same reception issues, I will either A. Get a bumper or B. Return it and hang with my 3Gs until a fix is issued.

I don't understand why people feel the need to overly express themselves on an issue that can't/won't get fixed. Just return it and get your money back.

People have a right to purchase items they want and have it function properly as intended, devoid of defects.

Apple replaced so many 27" iMac

due to LCD problems, how much cost them?

I am not sure whether Apple really thinking about bottom line, i think they care more about brand name and image.

they have replaced my iPhone 3G (with broken ring/silence button) after two years; that is the apple i know and that is the apple i want to remember

The first iPhone 4s were received on the 23rd of June, we've still got ways to go before the 30 days are up. ;)

I have already returned it and I'm back on my 3GS. £600 better off at the moment but I'll re-buy it if Apple sort this out.

What a surprise, Apple hold iPhone 4 press conference on the last day of their 30 day money back guarantee. Another way to hold people off returning their phones in the slim hope Apple will fix the Antenna/Recall or just own up to the fault.

Bumper doesn't fix my loss of data 3G and the mobile mast for my network 02 is 400 meters up the road.

Fail at basic math much? Might want to recheck the release date and your math.

My name is Steve Blow Jobs and Im here to talk about my latest nightmare iphone 4. I take my following statements back

Im sorry, i ****KKKKed up. If I can replace my liver, I can replace this damn ****KKSin antenna that ****KKKin Johnny Ive designed in no time. Sorry. He made me get into to bumper business. I will make sure i will dump him. I aint getting enough sleep. I promise. I ****kkkkkin forgot to maintain quality control coz I was loosin sleep over android. I cant believe their stk price more than double of my beloved AAPL and their phones are selling as hot cakes. How can that happen. I mean I make I devices and I cant take this. I wIll wIn thIs. i i i i i i i fusksked up.

You obviously have never worked for a technology company, otherwise you'd know that bugs happen. No product is perfect. What makes the difference is what the company does about... and we're going to find that out Friday.

What a chucklehead you are. UGH!

I went to an Apple store today in St. Paul, MN to inquire about the signal loss on my iPhone 4. They said it was a software update and they were "working on it."

He's losing touch.

Someone here has been saying that the right answer is to split Apple into Apple Computer Inc. and Apple Gadgets Inc. Let Jobs and crew run Apple Gadgets Inc.

Staff Apple Computer Inc with people dedicated to making Apple computers - cutting edge machines and software for professionals, and easy to use machines and software for consumers. (And a mini-tower in between for the pro-sumers ;) )

The splitting of Apple is a horrible idea. Steve is a good leader and fixed Apple. Once a company has division the idea of products with a good interface between each other fails! Microsoft is a good example of a big company with to many divisions in it. Every great company has a lemon, it happens. Mercedes, BMW have all had bad models, you just do your best to make lemon juice out of a lemon and move on.
