What a surprise, Apple hold iPhone 4 press conference on the last day of their 30 day money back guarantee. Another way to hold people off returning their phones in the slim hope Apple will fix the Antenna/Recall or just own up to the fault.

Bumper doesn't fix my loss of data 3G and the mobile mast for my network 02 is 400 meters up the road.

The phone is flawed or at least mine and many others are! However it's the only flaw as otherwise it's an amazing device just not quite living up to it's purpose as a phone!

I hope they announce a solution to the solve the Gulf oil spill, because that's a major issue people should get up in arms about.

I thought LeBron James was going to do it, but as it turns out that was just another example of people focusing on crap that, in the long run, doesn't really matter.

Well unless they have written an app for that, I wouldn't keep your hopes up. The article already stated that the iPhone 4 will be the topic.

PS. I know you aren't really expecting a discussion on the oil spill. :)

The first iPhone 4s were received on the 23rd of June, we've still got ways to go before the 30 days are up. ;)

Obviously they're going to finally address the issue and release/show 4.1 and what makes it different in relation to the signal strength. I'm not 100% sure they'll announce that it was hardware related (the antenna didn't get coated in ______ and is causing the issue).

Or it could be just so they can announce the release date on the white iPhone ;) which already has the fixed hardware. :D

They should also fire the clown who almost creamed his black jeans while talking about the "brilliant" antenna design at the keynote. ...and the other joker who sent the "you're holding it wrong" email to a customer.

Interesting suggestion.

Please name the CEO and product designer you think should replace them, and list their proven records at increasing shareholder value and winning design awards on billions of dollars worth of products during the past half decade.

Rubinstein? Hurd? Iwata? Dell? Ellison? Balmer???

Actually, I was.

This is total BS!

No recall and no free bumper.

Instead, $50 credit which can be used to buy a bumper or anything else you want. Apple hopes you use it towards something more expensive you wouldn't have bought in the first place and they still win.

Then you don't live in a mediocre coverage area. Just because you don't experience the problem or it doesn't effect you, doesn't mean it isn't real. 35-45 seconds for the bars to drop is irrelevant, that's only a calculation based on strength averages (or else the amount of bars you have will change insanly fast. Signals regularly fluctuate ~10dBm according to your hand position, location, ect). The instant you touch the black bar your signal to noise ratio will hit rock bottom and transmissions will start to fail. All you have to do is touch the black bar while running a speedtest and it will stop.

I live in NYC. . . self explanatory.
I'm just not the type to talk/whine about things I can't change.

When I get my White model; and If I have the same reception issues, I will either A. Get a bumper or B. Return it and hang with my 3Gs until a fix is issued.

I don't understand why people feel the need to overly express themselves on an issue that can't/won't get fixed. Just return it and get your money back.

1. Show that iPhone 4 has the best reception (voice, data) than any other phone, betters 3Gs. Back up with RF test results conducting by independent RF authority

2. The best iPhone, the best smartphone in the industry, with the highest customer satisfaction by a huge margin over all other smartphones . Period.

(Back up with independent charts, rave reviews, etc).

3. Acknowledge that out of the 3M iPhone 4 sold, less than 2% of the units may have had inadequate coating on the antenna, leading to possible reception issues in areas of weak signal or where cell towers are not tuned appropriately

4. Present a simple slide on the technical details

5. State that iOS 4.1 has the fix for displaying iPhone signal strength correctly and phone/cell tower tuning

6. Make the Bumpers Free to those customers who want one.

7. Restate (again) that customers may return their iPhone 4 for full return if not satisfied

They'd better address the Proximity Issue as well...

I am AMAZED they've handled it this bad to far. I mean, it's just technology... it's never 1000% perfect. Just COMMUNICATE and be truthful with your (absurdly) loyal customer base.

;)

Being a marketing guy with tons of PR experience, as stupid as this may sound, they have really done the right thing if they had to scramble to find the problem and come up with a legitimate fix (which I think is the case).

Keep in mind... Apple really has said nothing other than "it's how you hold the phone and stay tuned" (i,e, we're working on it). All the other chatter is just that... chatter from non-apple sources. Apple itself has said little.

Which, again, when it comes to your hottest product and millions being sold over night, you make sure you have your facts straight before you cause any panic or give out bad information. Yes, you take some bad PR in the short term, but if you do it right, you come out looking like the good guy and the company that cares and stands behind their products.

Think about it.... which all the electronic junk that's out there these days, if Apple uses this as a way to show consumers they really do stand behind their products.... sales will skyrocket afterwards. Everything they lost will be made up.

I guess we'll know in a couple days. Bumpers or exchange? Maybe just software???? Maybe all three?

Maybe a free copy of Vista with every iPhone? :p

Maybe because the noise is finally making Apple react. Wow, all this whining wasn't for nothing. We'll know on Friday if all the people calling for people to "just return it" were wrong all along.

They knew! Wake up and smell the coffee! Why do you think they were advocating the bumpers?

They weren't, they started saying that after the first few days of reports of a problem and only after Jobs said we were holding it wrong, they had made very, very, few bumpers, I work two blocks from the Apple Store in Soho, my phone arrived a day early and I went to buy a bumper to protect the glass and because it was the only case available, I know the Store Manager so I asked for one and he said that they had very few in stock and searched a few places until he found me one, if they knew there was a defect they would have filled the stores with bumpers, it's still difficult to get them, they ship in 5-7 days...

3. Acknowledge that out of the 3M iPhone 4 sold, less than 2% of the units may have had inadequate coating on the antenna, leading to possible reception issues in areas of weak signal or where cell towers are not tuned appropriately

Why lie ? If this was the case, they would simply exchange the affected units and would have issued a PR about it quite a while ago.

It's not Jobs it's Ive.

Jobs is valuable, Ive is useless.

Designers are a dime a dozen, I'm sure they can find one. It's an unskilled position.

Hmm,

I'd like to see some experts on the panel on Friday. Maybe even some HFSS simulations. Remove any doubt OR announce that their goal (whatever it takes) is 100% satisfaction.

As a side note:

I'm sure others have picked up on this, I think, but, here goes. I watched the CR video again. I could be wrong but the phone had 0 to 1 bars prior to touching the seam. Isn't that what Apple was saying in their letter? There is also a time issue (placing phone in cradle at 22:00 and touching the seam at 18:46?) but I think that one can slide.

Let's hear from the propeller heads at Apple!

He's losing touch.

Someone here has been saying that the right answer is to split Apple into Apple Computer Inc. and Apple Gadgets Inc. Let Jobs and crew run Apple Gadgets Inc.

Staff Apple Computer Inc with people dedicated to making Apple computers - cutting edge machines and software for professionals, and easy to use machines and software for consumers. (And a mini-tower in between for the pro-sumers ;) )

so much no in this lol

all of it

Exclusive deal is rotten to the core

Apple should fire the execs working the self serving deal with AT&T. End speculation the phone is intended to be light on usage for the benefit of the carrier.

Apologize to everyone with the problem and get a fixed S model out straight away.

Wow, fascinating story!! This explains EVERYTHING!!

Please tell us more, Chalkperson! Your run-on sentences are captivating.

Not in England they didn't, this Friday will be the 30th day from launch and I doubt if Apple stand their ground and lie and non issue this ***** Friday everyone who has been holding out for a proper response from Apple will have time to return their phones.

Plus the press release PST time or whenever in the USA will be past or close to shop closing times GMT.
