He will talk about the rumors out there first then followed by what the update has in store for us and finish off with them being ahead of schedule and how this gave them the ability to bring things earlier to release with 4.1 such as Gamecenter. There will be a few thank you for attendings, we are as great as you hoped we'd be followed by a so long and thanks for all the fish! :D

I went to an Apple store today in St. Paul, MN to inquire about the signal loss on my iPhone 4. They said it was a software update and they were "working on it."

but you know iOS 4.1 did not fixed much right? (except showing taller bars and lesser bar compared to 4.0)

Excuse me to all the free bumper chants.

I still experience signal drop with my bumper on I4. This is not the solution to fix the problem. If the do this type of crappy band-aid solution, I will be extremely disappointed.

It's not Jobs it's Ive.

Jobs is valuable, Ive is useless.

Designers are a dime a dozen, I'm sure they can find one. It's an unskilled position.

Seriously?

It's unskilled? You really think that any joe schmoe can go design something for use by the masses that also looks good (and is designed to be easily usable). Keep in mind the best products not only make themselves very practical for use, but also appeal to the mass market looks wise (sorry, looks count when it comes to marketing. If you make an ugly product or one that does not appeal to the market you are selling it to, it *will* hurt your sales. And it's best to create something a bit unique so it stands out, but if you can't, least make it appealing looking to the market you are aiming at).

You also have to keep certain specs in mind in how everything will fit inside or how big a screen you have to accomodate.

Yeah, I'm sure everyone can do that. I'm sure glad Jobs (and most smart companies really) don't subscribe to your theory. I could imagine the clunky, ugly, unusable crap they'd make if they just hired any random joe schmoe to design their products (I mean, it's unskilled, just make sure they show up on time for their shift).

Please tell me my sarcasm meter isn't working and you were being sarcastic (I'll admit I've been known to mistake good sarcasm for seriousness on the net).

I wonder how much fun it's been working on the top floor of 1 Infinite Loop the last couple of weeks.... :(

The splitting of Apple is a horrible idea. Steve is a good leader and fixed Apple.

Some people complain that Apple as a company is horribly single-threaded - they only work on one product at a time.

Lately, the "one product" has been a series of Igadgets - and the computer line is mainly years old technology at their original prices. (Core 2 processors at a company that used to pride itself on leading edge???) "Style" is there, but no substance.

Apple needs to learn to multi-thread product development (hw & sw) - by whatever management reorganization it takes to do that. They also need to learn that obsessive secrecy is a big problem for properly beta testing new hardware and software.

Apple could learn a lot by looking at the Windows 7 release process.

It's going to be a "how to hold your iphone 4 properly" seminar. They've got to get the word out somehow.

So, do you guys think WOZ finally called Steve and said WTF? :)

Overall it would be interesting to see what WOZ thought?

Why Recall?

Apple certainly has the money to issue a recall if they pleased. But why would they?

Consumer Reports, for instance, makes very clear when they think a recall is warranted. In this case, they instead ranked the phone highest in its class. They didn't "Recommend" it, but they don't recommend most products they test—that's a coveted rating akin to a seal of approval.

The person who suggested store credit to the tune of a bumper was making a lot of sense. Plus offer to waive the return fee for anyone who wants to just give it back.

Whether they would offer exchanges depends on whether they think they've got this licked—I would presume, if any of it's a production issue, they've stepped up their quality control considerably already.

Fix proximity sensor, too!

Is no one experiencing proximity sensor problems? This, to me, is a bigger problem than the signal issue. I don't grapple my phone like a primate while talking on it or using it otherwise, the biggest problem is putting my calls on hold with my face. I, then, have to smash the phone against my face so the proximity sensor doesn't malfunction.

Some say if you have issues just return it or get a case.
Fortunately when apple flaunts their products on a world stage the rest of the world wants a product that, how do apple fans put it, it just works?
My phone works great at home since the tower is line of sight. But the signal loss issue is pronounced in other coverage areas.
Maybe apple will tell the world; if you don't like it return it. That will fit in with the get a bumper and your holding it wrong solutions. Not to mention lore more customers

Apple WILL be issuing a recall for the iPhone 4

have friends in high places and have confirmed this to be true. They are relocating the antenna from the bottom of the phone to the top as well as fixing some software issues. There will be a full recall. All iPhone 4's that were in Apple's warehouses were sent back to China. Could take up to 90 days for the recall process to be complete.

But, did you see what happened to our stock prices in past few days? As soon as those bastards at consumer reports released their review on iphone 4, our stock priced dropped. So, we decided that it would be cheaper to just issue 30 dollars gift card to everyone who has bought iphone 4 than just watch and our stock prices fall. So, here is a deal. Please tell our investors to stop selling our stocks. I will monitor our stocks for few days and if they go back up, we will give your free bumpers. Happy now?

That's funny because I am only seeing Apple down 1.5% since the iPhone 4 announcement on June7 and down 1.75% since the CR announcement.

I'm also seeing the bigger picture. Up 19.5% Year to date and up 84% in the past year. If it goes down any further. Consider it a buying op. It's going to go higher.

Wow. Surprising news. One thing is for certain, however -- they'd only do a press conference if there was some sort of major action afoot.

Free bumpers is a non-starter. You don't tell people your product is flawed and then expect them to buy it just because you hand out a case.

My money is on 1) All currently produced models remain on sale; 2) Production lines being retooled for hardware rev with antenna coating or some such; 3) New rev debuts along with the white iPhone; 4) Owners can trade in for new revision when it launches if they so desire.

My Money on this-

and I'll buy some stock in the iCoat comment too! :)

Hey guys, seriously. Why does this news story have a pict of an iPhone with June 22nd on it?????????????????????

What a surprise, Apple hold iPhone 4 press conference on the last day of their 30 day money back guarantee. Another way to hold people off returning their phones in the slim hope Apple will fix the Antenna/Recall or just own up to the fault.

Not only are your dates wrong, I can't imagine Apple doing that anyway.

Prediction for Friday: You can return the phone for the next 30-60 days for a full refund, or take receipt of a new bumper on Apple.

That's it folks. No recall.

I don't understand people complaining about this. I mean it's pretty obvious to me not all iphones have this defect (as everyone I know personally including myself with an iphone 4 doesn't have this issue at all, and I'm pretty sure this is one the people I know would come across if the phone did have that issue), therefore it is a defect, and a simple exchange should fix your problem.

Unless for some reason Apple has refused to exchange phones with this problem. And then yeah, I'd say that's pretty d*mned crappy of Apple.

I don't think they would hold a press conference for free bumpers. For them to hold a press conference, the fix has to be more significant. Also, they have to have it licked... if they come out and say "there's a problem and we don't know how to fix it" would be suicide for the iPhone 4 sales. Everyone would return what they have and new sales would stop. They have to be announcing a legitimate fix and not a band-aid.
