Apple seems to make a step forward, but the haters keep on bashing and flaming.
Everything Apple does is bad.
Ridiculous.

Say what? Seems to take a step forward? All they did was announce a press conference - who knows what kind of denial they will issue. Until now that is all Apple has done, denied everything and suggest you buy gaudy bumpers or hold your phone differently. Where is this step forward you speak of?

To be honest, I would take an iPhone 4 with an antenna "Issue" over a Droid Anything any day. I am right handed and almost NEVER hold my phone in a way that would cause the signal to drop.

"Apple Holding iPhone 4 Press Conference on Friday" - will they hold it wrong?

(sorry, I just couldn't miss this one)

Why do people like you insist on playing the same broken record - I doubt that anyone who has purchased an extremely expensive iPhone 4 + contract is a "hater", that would be retarded. Stop feeling butthurt that your beloved Apple is taking flak for making a flawed product, it happens, now those of us experiencing problems would just like a fix for them. Yes the phone does many things very well, but it has issues too - it's not perfect. You fanboys really think there are that many "haters" out there who do nothing but pop up on forums all day, run negative tests (obviously Anandtech/Consumer Reports etc are haters) and spend an inordinate amount of their own valuable time just to pretend Apple has made a mistake? Get over yourself.

Any chance they can replace the rim of the phone?

Did you guys know you can actually get odds from Paddy Power (UK betting firm) on the odds of a recall lmao

Good luck Apple, let's get this sorted!

Boom.
I don't often post here, but that genuinely made me laugh out loud :D

Firstly, the iPhone 4 announcement where SJ had reception issues which he blamed on the wireless network, yet he himself was holding it in the death grip which could have been the first sign an issue was apparent. Then users were told the reception issue was purely software based - not hardware. Even experts in this field quickly pointed out the external antenna had a design flaw, plus the case the iPhone was found in in that bar had a case that look like a 3GS, and this reception issue could have been why it was fitted.

It also happens just before this announcement of a press conference, Scott Forstall gets a Twitter account - coincidence or not? For Apple to announce a press conference before the end of the week says to me Apple are really worried and have decided to be honest, as their stock price is plummeting.

They're ignorant? Since when is a recall only declared for malfunctions that happen to everyone? You, Sir, are the ignorant one.

Heard of Toyota recalling cars? Not everyone ran off the road with sticky pedals.
Heard of meat recalls? Not everyone got infected with E. coli.
Heard of tire recalls? Not everyones' tires blew up.
Heard of Dell recalling batteries? Not everyone had a battery ignite.

There are many more but I think you get the idea...

Wow. You really just compared products whose defects are life threatening with a cell phone that loses reception? You understand the reason those companies need to do recalls is because gambling on people who may or may not lose their lives is not worth the cost of hoping it doesn't happen to the next customer right? Just wow. Maybe you should consider thinking before callig other people ignorant. It's unreal that you were able to type that post out without understanding the difference.

And today we're introducing iGlove. It's going to change the way you think about caressing your iPhone.

iGlove Design Video - Jonny Ives in a dark room with a sowing machine. Oh shoot, the seam broke doh!

Did anyone else get their invitation?

Sorry, I couldn't resist a quick Photoshop after seeing the other ones:

About time they do something about it , i never before even considered apple capable of making such a inferior product and going so far as to sell it as it is.

this has to be quoted and repeated and spammed all over the forums in every thread in every section in all caps in bold in italics and underlined

I love my iPhone, but stereotypical delusional Apple fanboys make me sick.

Finger of death is a non-issue for me, the proximity sensor causing me to speakerphone or mute calls with my cheek pisses me right off though.

I bow to your greater financial news expertise.

So do you think it's "good" news then?

" ... invited select press ..."
which probably means they want some control over the interpretation of their message (or at least avoid a gong show).

(is a product recall/parts replacement or free bumpers considered good or bad news?)

New poster, hi. Now:

I don't think the death grip affects wi fi, which is how Jobs was connected at WWDC. Also, since the earliest Iphones were received on June 23, everyone who has an Iphone is within the 30 day return period! So you and every one else who is pissed off about this can just return your phone and move along. Problem solved! I'll just keep mine in it's case -- like most people would have done anyway -- and enjoy the fact that all of this is really a non-issue.

?? As I told you, the announced a press conference regarding the iphone 4.
Or do you really believe they will just present the white iphone 4?
Btw. some customers received even free bumpers.
What do you expect? Shall Apple in the future make a recall as soon as a macrumors antenna issue thread grows bigger than 500 posts?
This IS a step forward to adress this issue.
But people like you just cannot say: hey, Apple, thats better than deleting posts in your support forum.
No, you just seem to want to get worked up about it rather than seeing it as a step forward.

Please, somebody push that record player!

**** u bitch ;)

Mashable had a great article on what Apple needs to do.

1. Acknowledge That the Antenna Problem Is Real
2. Go into the Technical Details
3. Roll Out the Software Update
4. Make the Bumpers Free
5. No Matter What, Don’t Issue an iPhone 4 Recall

6. Announce the white iPhone 4
7. Announce date for second release (16 new countries)

iP4 has a design flaw and it's the external antenna. You think Apple came up with the idea? It doesn't work, that's why nobody is doing it. That danish professor talked about that 2 weeks before launch.

I think there will be a recall.
