"Holding"

The question is, Will they hold the press conference correctly, or will they come out on Saturday and say that it was held wrong?

Yeah! Free duct tape.

:p i agree... .
I don't think Apple will do a Recall...
but if it won't solve really!! the antenna's issue, well then
would be as to run on fresh eggs...,
an huge Gift to Google,Microsoft,Rim,Nokia...
not to mention Class Actions Spills then....
If not,
if Apple won't be the same i trusted in the past,
this time i will skip ip4..for Android.:apple::mad:
Come on Steve do your Job,not your ego.
My trust is fragile,
'cause my work is hard, don't you?.

"Apple on Wednesday invited select press to a special press conference"

Sounds like what Obama does when he holds a press conference. He stacks the room with liberal reporters and they lob him softball questions. There isnt a single REAL journalist in the room for his press conferences. Nothing but bloggers and people pushing the left wing agenda.

Lets hope Jobs doesnt resort to that tactic.

I hope they hold the press conference for the iPhone 4 in the hand correctly, or the signal will get lost.

I don't get it /sarcasm/

true,
I bet the entire conference will be steve teaching people how to 'correctly' hold the iPhone + a new product launch (MBA, Apple TV or something) to make everyone forget.

No, the whole "just hold it differently" was a PR fiasco. They could never formally come out and say something like that. Steve won't be doing this press conference. It will be solely to address the problems in the i4 and the manufacturing changes they've already made (coating on the metal) to fix it.

As dumb as wall street is, a new product announcement to 'make everyone forget' wouldn't fly. Apple has a responsibility to their customers, but their investors are the priority.

many urban areas have 10,000 times the signal strength required for 5 bar display. Touching the area decreases usable signal power to 1/100th of what it was. So in that case the phone still has 100 times the usable signal strength to display 5 bars. Of course phones in such places can't replicate the problem.

If in such an area how would anyone even know they'd experienced a 100 fold signal drop?

First, I travel very frequently. To places that others with the issue have said they live.

Second I've used the speedtest app in many of these places. No drop in anything.

The better question might be, why do you think you know everything about the tech in the phone as well as every user's experience? Please, enlighten me with your qualifications to speak on both of these points. I'd also LOVE to see your data and sources for the numbers posted above. Amazing that the problem happens to be "100 times". Apple can sure engineer a failure!

Why does everyone keep wishing, hoping and praying for free bumpers? It merely masks the problem and most of the aftermarket chargers (wall or cigarette lighter) do not work with them. In fact, it didn't even work with my AUX cord in my truck...the bumper makes the plug length too shallow.

I don't want a free bumper only to spend $20 on a 'Bumper" compatible cigarette lighter charger and another $10 on a "Bumper" compatible aux cord.

No way Jose.

Use an Xacto knife and trim the bumper case a little bit so the plug fits in it.

Get over yourself. Return the phone. Any issues won't be resolved for months, if ever, and I'm tired of listening to a pile of "butthurt" mouth breathers ranting about cell phone recalls. People must think rolling into a mac centric forum to "spend an inordinate amount of their own valuable time" announcing they're going to buy a droid will really teach those of us who enjoy our iPhone (with no issues) a lesson or two. GO. Do it. No one cares. If you want to keep it, post something constructive or contact Apple.

I've posted many constructive points, I'd like to keep my phone, I believe it is the best on the market, I want it to work properly so I have passed my O2 contractual 2 week return to give Apple the benefit of the doubt that they will rectify the issue for those of us that have it.

My point you had responded to was a retort at yet another idiotic fanboy raving on about how everyone with a problem is a "hater" - which is franky bull~~~~, many of us (the vast majority I'd presume) love Apple products but that doesn't mean we should ignore problems - and where better to discuss them but on an Apple forum? Perhaps we should all go to the Droid forums so they can laugh at our iPhone issues? This isn't just a "praise Apple" forum and both sides of an argument are valid. Not everyone has black and white views on the issue, many of us try to have reasonable discussions on about the iPhone and for every "this is a piece of crap" post there are many more "mine's fine - there's no issue, you're lying, you're a hater - burn him!" posts. I have emailed Apple and O2 to complain, I'd prefer a solution than a refund.

That's because you live in an area where a 20-30dBm drop doesn't effect you. Congratulations, you figured out something that was known two weeks ago.

Congratulations, you assumed you know anything about my life and built a little strawman argument based on it. I've been in 9 states and a dozen places in the few weeks I've had the phone. Rural to urban. No problems. It's also AMAZING that you were able to measure the signal drop on my phone without me knowing! You know what they say about assumptions...

I could careless what they do about this blown out of proportion situation but u do know there won't be a recall. The majority are very happy and I am in that boat. Even if there is one, I'm keeping mine unless I can somehow exchange for the white.
Bottom line they can't please everybody anyway so people will still bitch and complain no matter what. Buy a case and protect your phone because we know if you drop it and it breaks you'll blame apple for designing it with glass on both sides. Or return it and get your money back. Simple stuff.
Still can't wait to hear what Steve says though.

Apple "Holding" iPhone 4 Press Conference on Friday

The title is unintentionally hilarious. I guess "the Steve" will publicly show us how to hold this thing. I heard it's "magical"...

:apple:
think later...

Steve is going to be like the soup nazi tomorrow. All the complainers will have their phone taken away while steve says "no phone for you". Honestly, those who don't like the phone don't deserve it. It should be taken away like a mother takes a toy away from a child who is being bad.

I've said this before but if you don't like it, take it back. You would do it with any other piece of equipment like a brand new tv. Why would your phone be any different here? I think some customers who are having the problem want so badly to love their phone it's like an abusive relationship. "he beats me but he told me he would stop. Things are gonna be different. I just know it!"

Okay, here's my guess...$30 credit for iPhone 4 purchasers at the Apple store, which iPhone 4 purchasers can use to buy a bumper if they want.

Why are people willing to accept free bumpers but still have a broken phone? Idiots. QUOTE]

+1
This is insane to accept a bumper as a fix...first it is not a fix and it generates more profits to Apple...if people are ready to get those bumper as a fix I would be Steve Jobs I would make sure next year another HW issue occurs and release a 29$ accessory to fix it...Like a super high glare screen on the iPhone 5 leading to massive complaints...then I would release a screen protector alleviating all the glare...Apple wins.

Only Apple could figure out a way to profit on giving an item away for free! What a company!

LOL - come on now...you don't want to get a hard question on an issue you disagree with. Being President is supposed to be easy...that is why he has spent more time golfing than nearly any other President in history!!!

But seriously...back to the iPhone4 PR disaster:

Lets hope Jobs doesnt resort to that tactic.

I fear he might have. Whenever you invite a select group of people you have an agenda - that goes for all groups of people...not just liberals and embarrassed corporate executives. Conservatives, entertainers and normal folks do the same thing...and it is shameful. It is just a way to try and control what is usually a damaging event. A select audience is typically designed to help control the questions and the response. Most likely the select journalists are ones that while they may have legitimately raised issues about the iP4 hardware flaws...they most likely have a history of backing Apple despite their mistakes in the past...like the 27" iMac, lack of blu-ray, flash, etc.

I hope this isn't a controlled PR Stunt like when Tiger Woods came out of hiding and made his famous "apology" to his select media and friends where he basically said he made a mistake but with Budah he will be fine again...but ignored the elephant in the room and didn't talk about the fact that his "mistake" involved nearly two dozen hookers/porn stars and slutty waitresses and that he is a two faced lying son of a bitch that royally screwed his family, friends, supports and business associates. To this day he still likes to act like nothing happened.

Jobs needs to learn from Tiger Woods and come clean now...or the fall out may be more expensive than he bargained for.

Haha I love that "no phone for you!" that would be hilarious. I could actually see that. Good stuff.
