“Gordon and Leight would reformat the show for the American market, and potentially change the title.“
Oh no... but still.. fingers crossed.

Dont worry, we know you Americans are more afraid of naked breasts than you are of guns.
hahaha, so spot on! They can have guns everywhere but women breasts its massive no no let alone a woman breastfeeding in public :D

I for one hope they will build on the family/kid friendly channel and omit the netflix copy. I have a family with young kids, I don't want violent tv shows. If I'm paying, it will have to be a family channel without profanity, nudity and violence. The world is funked up as it is, I don't need my kids to have it fed with a spoon.

And for those that want those kind of things, there is still netflix, cbs and what not.

Use parental controls are even actual parenting. I don't want people with kids dictating what content is available to me. this is great news Apple is going to produce content that isn't limited to G rated stuff.

I don’t know about anyone else, but when I think of “Violent Drama actors”, I think Richard Gere...o_O

This was actually very violent on my psychological health...

Didn’t Tim Cook just say violence has no place on Apple’s platforms?

Interesting. Just glad they're not going with the kid friendly route. Though seems strange in light of recent news that Tumblr has to remove all their nudity and then news comes out that Apple is releasing this? I know nudity/violence aren't tied to each other, but still feels a bit hypocritical

I feel like folks are not understanding the difference between fantasy and reality.

I'm going to stop weeping over Apple and its new direction. But not today, sniff.

Wtf Apple.

Gosh, the credulity of some folks here at MacRumors.

Before you weep and swear, stop and ask yourself which is more likely: that Apple would change direction so, or that the unnamed sources cited in the original CNBC story ("according to several people with knowledge of the deal") might have an interest in trying to drive up the offering price of this series from other bidders?

My comment was about Apple pursuing programming. Whether it's this show or other shows. Each new post by Macrumors about Apple and programming drives the knife a little deeper into the heart of the user who remembers Apple being a technology innovation company. (But thanks for including me. I haven't been part of a gosh reply in a while.)

There will never be another Breaking Bad!

It made a lot of money, so it will never end. For example:
  • The prequel Better Caul Saul
  • The upcoming Breaking Bad movie
  • The movie will probably lead to a sequel - Breaking Bad 2: Electric Boogaloo
  • Then probably spinoffs - Breaking Bad: Las Vegas: Special Victims Unit
  • And in 15 years you can count on the remakes - Breaking Bad: The Next Generation
  • And a "sidequel" from the car wash owner's point of view, during the same timeline - Breaking Bad: A1A Car Wash
  • Not to mention knockoffs like Ozark (Breaking Bad: Redneck Boaters)

Additionally, Apple is said to be looking for "different" content, as long as it has substance and isn't gratuitous.

I'm sorry, but "different" content that has substance and isn't gratuitous does not equal mass appeal no matter much you want it to do so.

Breaking Bad was an abberation where everything lined up just right. I like Better Call Saul. But how many people, including me, would bother to watch Better Call Saul if it weren't for the backdrop of Breaking Bad?

How can this be called the next "Breaking Bad"? The premise sounds nothing like "Breaking Bad". The only thing similar is gratuitous violence. Which I just don't have faith Apple will be capable of pulling off. Not that they can't afford the talent. I just don't see their executives taking the risk with their brand.

It would be funny if they bought it. Then completely butchered it like the networks do when buying a series. I'm picturing "Bastards" being renamed "Buddies". Instead of military veterans. It becomes an arcade manager and his chimp pulling pranks on children.

Violence is only good when it has potential to make money. Why not choose the comedy route instead?

I thought Apple stated it was specifically looking for content that had limited sex and violence.

Didn’t Tim Cook just say violence has no place on Apple’s platforms?

This was before Apple found out iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR sales haven't been as strong as they were expecting.

Apple knows sex and violence sells. It's unavoidable if Apple wants their OTT service to be successful and contribute to their services revenue. Services revenue is the new metric they want to be measured by now.

I hope they create an entirely separate studio for their streaming network efforts instead of using the Apple brand, so that if backlash ever happens—and it's more than likely in this highly regressive political climate—other aspects of their business (their bottom line or core markets) would not be affected by boycotts or souring of public opinion.

Ah, then I entirely share your view.

I cringe when I hear Apple executives say they want to contribute to culture. I don't think that's where their expertise lies.

All these violent tv shows bore me. I mean i liked breaking bad and others, but it’s only that specific genre, whilst comedy or drama (without hipster topics like transgender, minority’s, sleeping with their boss finding out it’s their brother...) or whatever has become only cheap.

I have hope that if Disney rolls out their streaming service in europe this might change the market to the better. It’s time for better entertainment without shocking elements.
