Jeez, I still haven't been able to get my hands on them. Granted, I haven't been following the stores' stocks like a hawk but every time I check, the expected delivery date is bumped back.

My goal was to pick them up as soon as they became widely available but at this point I 'm wondering if it's better just to wait for gen 2.
Target has had AirPods a lot recently:

And they look ridiculous.... probably why no one is knocking them off.

And yet another ear bud from Apple that is not designed to actually stay in the ear. Every earbud I've gotten with an iPhone still sits in the boxes in the closet unused. I need them to stay in the ear or they are useless.
To me, all earbuds with wires look ridiculous. What is the point of wires?

I think cords look ridiculous now that I have been enjoying AirPods.

Do you think it's cool to have white cords hanging from your ears and dangling over the place? It's a bit arbitrary. You'll get used to them I think.

I personally find the Apple earphones fit really well - I always use my pairs when I buy an iPhone. The only problem with is absolutely no sound isolation whatsoever so not suitable for using in any kind of noisy environment. But for just home / office type stuff they work great. And despite what people say I find the sound quality to be pretty decent.. and it's not like I don't know what decent headphones sound like as I do have several pairs of good cans from Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, etc.

I would defend your comments though by saying we all have different shaped ears so it does kinda strike me as weird that they produce a 'one size fits all' solution when clearly they won't be suitable for everyone!

I actually emailed Tim Cook about the availability of AirPods just last week. Not only was I amazed and honoured that he replied to my email within ten minutes of me sending it but he offered a tip too, here's what he wrote:

"David,

Demand is much greater than we predicted and we are working hard to catch up. Sorry for the wait.

We do ship to our stores and the channel regularly in addition to filling the orders online at the stated lead-time so you might find them early in the day but they tend to sell out quickly.

I do think they are worth the wait. <inserted emoji that was stripped by Microsoft Outlook>

I have since managed to source a pair via an online store here in Germany.

If you’re in the UK, John Lewis always seem to have stock. Their website has said 10+ in stock for a while now. Plus you get a 2 year warranty, as with all electronics bought from John Lewis.
I wasn't able to get mine at JL but found this site that let me get my mitts on a pair: http://stockinformer.co.uk (rather shockingly mine came from Very - last place I would have thought to look). Like others have said though, they are a brilliant product, don't fall out (for me at least - even when tested on a trampoline!) and I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.

Unable to meet demand? How do they asses that?

At my local Apple Store I have seen them up for grabs every time I am there.

So the suggestion made by Tim (or the person handling its public emails) is good.
I just went to apple.com and checked the availability in the nearest AS: September 22th.
If I order them on apple.com the etd is 6 weeks from now, so the middle of September, the local Apple reseller doesn't have them on the online store and even the biggest electronics shop in my country doesn't list them available online.
But I may be able to to the AS on the morning and find a pair of AirPods as Tim suggested

Ordered mine on July 4th. ETD is Aug 22nd.
I'd love to know how many Apple has sold to date if they still can't cope with the demand.
Best selling headphones of all time?
Until Apple releases numbers sold the answer is no. It's easy to sell-out of an in-demand product if you don't make many.

I find it very strange that there is absolutely no availability issues in the Netherlands. More than 15 Apple resellers can deliver the AirPods within 24 hours.

It's probably not selling well here :p

I genuinely like how they look. They're just EarPods without the long, gangly cables. But to be clear…

And compared to the competition, specifically Bragi's Dash, they aren't little rotund things that stick out from one's head; they're narrow stalks that run parallel to one's jaw:

They look fine from the side, but from the front it juts out a bit from the ears for some people, making it look like a pair of earrings. But, overall they look pretty okay.

Yep.

AirPods look very similar to the standard wired EarPods... but without the 36" of white cables hanging from your ears and across your body. Very minimalist.

AirPods are certainly an improvement over whatever the hell this is:

I wrote to him because I innocently enquired in a Hong Kong store if they had any in stock (6 weeks ago) and they literally laughed at me. I got no reply.

They might not have had any malicious intent when they 'laughed' at you. Maybe they were just amused because there's very little stock anywhere, and so there was humour in you asking if they had any stock. It's possible that lots of people had asked them the same thing that day.

People are so easily offended, but I agree they could have been a little more professional.

I've seen maybe a handful of people wearing them in real life, since launch, and I don't think they look that bad. I think people are familiar with what they are, and 10 years ago every one was walking around with wireless bluetooth ear pieces. I don't think they look that bad.

I use to own a pair of the LG Tones. It was like wearing a dog shock color. I didn't care for them at all. The Airpods have that product Beat in every way with simplicity and compactness.

I decided to get some bluetooth earphones/pods last week to see if it is better without the wires. I saw the 6 week wait on shipping on Apple.com for the AirPods and thought well i really like lots of bass so i will maybe go for the Beats X instead.

Whilst they still have 1 cable going between each ear pod i really like the fact i no longer have a cable going to my pocket which i use to catch all the time. I don't think i will be buying wired (as in use a 3.5mm audio jack) again.

If somebody has been using wired earphones on a consistent basis and has not experienced the AirPods, they won't know what they're missing with AirPods. But once you experience AirPods and the wireless freedom, you truthfully don't want to go back to anything wired. At least that's been my experience with the AirPods.

How do they look ridiculous? They are the same shape as their regular earbuds. They just don't have a cord.
[doublepost=1501647336][/doublepost]These are the best wireless earbuds I've ever owned for use on phone calls. And I've had quite a few. Apple really knocked it out of the park with this one. People on the other end can say I sound great.
Without the cord it looks like your ears are smoking cigarettes! ;)

My husband loves his AirPods for calls. He uses them for music, too, but where they really shine for him is at work, when he's taking calls.

He let me try his and offered to get me a pair, but they're not for me. They fit just fine and all that and I think they are very clever in how they work. But I already own so many other earbuds and headphones that I currently prefer.

The convenience factor is lost on me because I prefer to not have earbuds or headphones on when I'm out and about--the exceptions being when I'm on a long car ride or flight. I like to be very aware of my surroundings at all times. For the car rides and flights I prefer something with good noise cancellation.

Ordered my AirPods from my local "premium Apple reseller" in march and had to wait 3 months... They are the most convenient wireless headphones I've ever used, but the lack of controls (especially volume) is seriously annoying.

One more thing - when in silent environment, I can definitely hear some static noises. Not happy about that. :/

I want to like them but the hard plastic irritates my ears after any extended use. I wish they'd use something more pliable.
