Would it not be better to allow bigger than 2gb apps on a case by case basis so that apps aren't unnecessarily big?

Not quite sure what you mean. All apps, regardless of their size are allowed on a case by case basis. Maybe you're thinking apps have to be 4GB. If so, that's not the case. 4GB is just the max.

As others have said, those with lower capacity phones will have to be even more judicious than ever in their app selection. SD slot would have come in handy for those folks. Never gonna happen though. Too much profit in capacity upgrades.

This is one area where I wish iDevices had SD card slots. We'd be able to store so many more apps. Especially considering that wireless is still not reliable & fast enough to handle big apps yet.

Not going to happen. All people will do is buy the 16GB version and an SD card. Where's the profit in that for Apple?

We're getting to the point where there really should be a switch to override cellular restrictions. I have a 20GB data plan. Sometimes I want to do bandwidth heavy things on cellular! Hell, sometimes my cellular connection is FASTER than the available Wifi.

If I go over and have to pay overages, it's my fault, not Apple's. Give us an override switch!

I agree, I should be able to use as much data as I want. If I go over than it's my fault. I hate when I can't update or download an app.

I am kind of glad to hear this. It opens up all kinds of opportunities for more advanced games. Now Apple needs to up the 16GB size.

In other rumors, they're bringing back the 8GB iPhone!!

Good luck!

The 5c is already 8GB.

It doesn't seem like people even know they sell 8gb iPhones. There is a size below 16GB. If they haven't dropped 8 what makes you think they'll drop 16? Hopefully they drop 8 and replace it with 16, and replace 16 with 32 or 64.

So glad I got the 64gb iPhone plus. I don't need the 128gb model yet but next upgrade I do will be 128 or higher

The way I look at it Apple forced many people to get the 64GB model. No reason why Apple could not use 32GB across the board as the starting point. At least 6 flagship Android devices had 32GB or more as the starting point in 2014. And just watch when they release a 16GB 6S model with the average size of apps increasing. Pure greed!
But you know what. I can’t blame Apple for doing it. They’re in the business of making money and up to this point Tim Cook is doing a great job. So I really can’t talk crap because people are willing to put up with it.

Logically then, if you want more than three games on your iPhone, you buy one with more memory.

if you want to speak logic, then maybe Apple should give user an option to expand their memory like most other smartphones.

Never. 6s will be 32, 64, 128. The $100 Apple Ram Scam will be alive and well. :apple:

I’m willing to bet that Apple will keep the 16GB model. Why should they change the formula if the phones are selling like hotcakes? Just look at the 8 megapixel camera rumors. Apple doesn’t care what we think. They care only about units sold by fine tuning a formula that has worked for years. And if the Samsung S6 gets released with 32GB for the base model I still see the 6S starting with 16GB.

Apple: "Let's find another means to force people to upgrade with no other option. Upgrade or deal with a crippled iPhone."

Wouldn't anything like that be under the app's documents and data though?

I'm not sure. Like I said, I'm just pulling it from memory. It's been a while since I downloaded a game that ended up being more than the 2gb limit.

Or don't download games that are too big for your phone. That's another option.

If they dropped the 16, the base model would be 64. 32 is already gone. Time to move to 64, 128, 256. 16gig is pretty much useless if you want to keep any kind of content on your device.

You mean to tell me that the largest company in the world cannot acquire 32GB chips? Maybe you’re on to something. That would explain why they have been using 8 megapixel camera modules since iPhone 4S.

Just because they didn't create 32 GB versions of the latest model, mostly as a marketing move, doesn't mean that that size is gone and can't be there in future models.

32bit is limited in addressable memory to 2G.

It's 4GB. 2^32 = ~4.3 billion. In practice it's slightly more complicated and Windows imposes a ~3GB limit, but OS X (and presumably iOS) does not, and can use the full 4GB.

But as others said, this has nothing to do with memory, or 64-bit, anyway. Let me know when you see an iOS device that has >4GB RAM. ;)

then why do i have infinity blade 3 on my iPad already clocking in at 2.8 gigs...
The app download itself in the App Store is 1.92 GB (which is under the previous 2 GB limit). What's on your device is the installed size (which is unpacked from the compressed download) and possibly some app data local to the device that adds to the size.

The step to 128 GB was well appreciated, but the next generation of iPads awaits for 256 GB versions.

As for iPhones - this requirement would be plausible but more surprising.

The headline may as well have been 'FF VII Confirmed For iOS'. Square Enix KNOW the demand is there and the last hurdle just got removed, so trot it out for £10 and watch the money pour in.

Having never played it, but been keen to for a while, I certainly would grab it on launch day.
