New stuff won't charge due to the voltage differences (I just experienced this going from 1st ten nano to an iTouch), but you can get one of these to make it charge for you whenever the car is on:

http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-passPORT-Charging-Adapter-iPhone/dp/B001HN6CVA

Here's the update. I received the 4th generation 8GB iPod nano. It plays with though my car stereo by itself but does not charge so after couple of days it begs for juice. The Scosche passPORT adapter is nearly the same size as the nano. It allows the device to charge.

My songs are encoded with a pretty high bit rate so the nano holds about 1450 songs (half my library). That's much more than the 1GB nano offered so I am rediscovering music I didn't know I had.

The one downside is that the new iPod nano shuts off overnight. The old one would fire up when the car started. Now I must physically press the power button on the new nano.

No news from Apple even after eight weeks in India

The Authorised support team is at the receiving end from angry customers (100+) who have deposited - Recalled ipod Nano for more than eight weeks now and there is no news from Apple side.

Have faith that they will get to yours. I started my process back in november, didn't get the shipping bag and label until late december. They received my old Nano on Dec 30th, and yesterday I got my replacement. With all of that said, I doubt they are even looking at the iPods they are receiving. Mine had a broken display, the case was all wonky due to it being pried open, and it had made it through at least one cycle in the washing machine.

Here in Brazil the process is a little bit different. First you take your ipod nano to an authorized re-seller. The re-seller waits until he has a certain quantity and ships them to Apple-BR. Apple-BR sends them to Apple-US. Apple-US sends the new ones to Apple-BR. Apple-BR sends them to the reseller.
17/11/11 I left my nano with the reseller. Today I was informed that I can pick it up. I don't know which model I will receive.

Submitted request Dec 23rd, Box arrived Dec 29th. This includes holiday delays. :)

..............and the middle of February...... nothing. Is there an email to applecare anyone has laying around? I lost my applecare contact emails when I swapped computers a couple years ago.

Interesting... here's my experience.

Emailed request on Dec 3, got confirmation email same day.

Received shipping box on or about Dec 10.

Shipped to Apple on or about Dec 19.

Replacement shipped from Apple on Jan 5.

Received by FedEx on Jan 6.

Seemed very reasonable to me... especially over Christmas/New Year.

(sorry, dates between Dec 3 and Jan 5 are approximate... don't have actual documentation)

edit: sent back a 1st gen iPod Nano. Got back a current gen (6th?) Nano... couldn't tell if refurbished or brand new... but looks good, works well. If anything, after a few years, at least got a new battery for "free". AND... sent back a 2GB Nano... got back a 8GB Nano. Amazing...

Still waiting patiently....

I submitted my request on Dec 20 after reading the article about people receiving the newest version. I said, what do I have to lose?

I received the envelope on 12/29/2012 and sent it back on 12/30/2012.
It was received by apple on 1/10/2012 and marked as Issue identified with a return status of Product replacement pending.

Sent two 1st gens back to Apple in late November, and got the shipping notification on the replacements yesterday... almost two month turnaround! Oh well, no complaints... nothing like getting a free upgrade!

6th Gen 8GB Arrived Today!!!

On Tuesday morning I woke up to find an email from Apple with a FedEx tracking number along with a serial number which did turn up as a new 6th Gen. FedEx delivered it today! Silver 8GB 6th Gen.

Thank you APPLE!!! It was well worth the wait to get the newest model and double the capacity.

I will tell my experience in the netherlands.

I submited my request in november, cant remember the day, but as soon as the email was sent. (12 nov?)

Got my box and picked up on the same day 7th dec.

No news until I get an email on the 4th of january that my replacement ipod was sent and within two days i would get it.

Called on the 10th applecare after not receiving the ipod. Told to wait 1 week.

Called on the 17th apple care. Told to wait 1 week.

Called on the 25th apple care. Told to wait until the 15th of february...

Called on the 16th to apple care, was transferred to customer relations Europe and the lady on the phone asked me which color I would like to get. Ordered graphite grey.

22nd of february I received a BRAND NEW ipod nano, including usb cable and headphones. Warranty says valid until 18th feb 2013.

Apple has had mine for just under 13% of this year - so far. I called AGAIN today, because the online notification system continues to tell me that my product replacement is PENDING. Finally, today, I was told that the delay is the result of a "replacement parts shortage". They promised me that I would receive it within two weeks. Which would mean that I had been without my nano for nearly 17% of the year. That means that approximately $34 worth of my nano was taken from me. Yes, I know they're replacing it, but it shouldn't take two months to do.

I didn't ask for the replacement, they were required to do it (even if the case seems a little specious) and they have actuaries telling them that it will cost them less to replace all these nanos than it would to risk more accidents.

I'm just especially annoyed that I wasn't told until today that they didn't have enough replacement nanos (maybe they need to higher some new actuaries).

After complaining and posting ^^^ the above, I got an email this morning telling me I should expect mine in two business days. Thank you Macrumors Forums.

Wil I ever go a replacement

Can anyone out there tell me if my iPod Nano has disappeared into a black hole or will I soon get a replacement?
I have posted the following message on The Apple Service and Support page in the hope of an answer: -
As part of your ipod nano recall program I posted my ipod nano in your return packaging on 07/01/2012. Your web site confirmed receipt, Issue identified and Product replacement pending on 13/01/2012. Since the 13th of January nothing has changed in my repair status, It is now 29th February. Is there anyone at Apple that can tell me when I can expect a replacement or at least how to find out?

It took a long time but I finally got mine and I sent the nano in before you did.

My final timeline:

Service Requested: 11/17/11
Empty Box Shipped: 12/23/11
Empty Box Received: 12/30/11
Nano Shipped: 1/5/12
Received by Apple: 1/12/12
Replacement Received: 2/25/12

So 100 days exactly. 14 weeks is just a hair more than 6, but whatever, it's finally done.
