Should have got mine today but wasn't in, so changed to tomorrow :)

Checked my new info 6th Gen ipod Nano :) very happy! i did have an engraved one before but happy with a newer model.

Received today, silver Nano 6G 8GB. Service request was made 11/13/11 for my 1G, 4GB Nano.

The iPod dock that worked with my 1G for line out does not work with the 6G, no line out anymore.

I got my box today but it wasn't a box. I got a manilla padded envelope. Opened it up and there is just a little clear ziplock bag (nano shaped) and a letter instructing me to use all the materials I don't have (padded sleeve, box, return label etc). All I got was a ziplock. I'm a bit confused. Emailed back to the product replacement email I had but perhaps I need to call. I came here to see if anyone had the same problem but so far in my looking no mention...

iPod nano return.

I got an email from Apple today saying I will recieve my new iPod nano on Monday/Tuesday next week. Checked the new serial number and it's a 6th gen nano.

Likewise, here in Hyd., submitted on Nov. 15th, neither the authorized Apple Service Center nor the Apple Customer care has any clue on replacement arrival. Even after 4-6 weeks of time, all they have is to make us wait....c'mon Apple, don't do it like this....

6th Jan'2012

Checked with Service provider - No Clue.
Checked with Apple Care - No Clue.

Its now 7 Weeks since I Handed over my iPod Nano 1G

Update : 9 Weeks - still no Clue :)
31st Jan'2012- After a long wait finally got 8G 6th Generation iPod Nano as replacement. Thanks Apple.

I sent in both of my first gen nanos. The first return packaging I got was a box but the second was the envelope and ziplock bag, as you described. I noticed the directions were the same as before, referring to a box. I think it's just a sloppy oversight on Apple's part.

Battery replacement

I replaced the battery in my 1st gen nano, does anyone know if hey open each one up and look inside, or just throw them in the garbage bin?

Do you guys know if a broken 1st gen will get exchanged?

Yes, in fact, if my theory is correct you will get a better deal out of it.
I sent of an ipod that hasn't worked since just after it's warrenty ran out, and an ipod has been shipped to me, and I've checked the serial number they've given me, and it is deffinietely a sixth gen model. I've also found out that my model has a full years warranty, and I haven't seen anybody else get that, but of course I could be wrong. My ipod has never worked well, so I think my ipod possibly had some other major fault that caused it to fail which is why I've got I full warranty.
But I could be barking up the wrong tree.... Can anybody else confirm this???

Anyway, can't wait to get my ipod!

Mine's got a full years warrenty which is odd, but I think it could be to do with the fact that mine stopped working about five years ago...

It seems like most people got their's shipped out after December 20'th. Maybe Apple was waiting for more stock. Apple id'd the issue and a replacement is pending as of Jan 5. How long do you think it'll take until they send out a replacement?

Warranty Clarification

I checked the serial number of the replacement nano when I received the email that it had shipped, and the status page showed a phone coverage for 90 days and hardware warranty through Jan 3, 2013. Now with the replacement nano delivered, the same status page shows that I'm not eligible for phone or hardware warranty coverage. I called Apple Support and the rep confirmed the 90-day phone and 1-yr hardware warranty.
Now it's off to ebay before the price dips any lower.

11/16 - Claim requested
1/7 - 6th Gen Nano received

Mine had a years warranty but then I checked later and I had no warranty. I don't really mind because it's a newer model with more memory. My 1st gen nano was over 5 years old, quite scratched but other than the cosmetic damage it worked perfectly. It was only 1gb so a newer generation nano with 8gb of memory is a win. :)

One of the nano's I sent off had been opened up and had the screws lost by the previous owner but they're still going to replace it. I can only assume they don't bother opening them up.

Use the manilla envolope it came in.....

I did not see a reply to this and or that you figured it out. The envelope it came in has a second sticky strip. Put the Ipod in the zip lock bag and put it back in and reseal. Fold the side of the shipping label and remove the top label. Label to ship back is underneath. Keep top label that you removed and take envelope to UPS store.

I received my replacement iPod nano 6th gen today, it's silver and has an 8gb capacity, huge upgrade from my 1GB 1st gen nano.

I really like it, been playing around with it for about 30 minutes or so and it's really cool.

The sound quality, while listening to it with my sony headphones, is very good in my opinion.

I'm not sure what the battery life is like yet but I'd assume it's better than my 1st gen iPod nano.

It also came with a 90 day warranty. :)

Same here in Ahm'd. Service provider said that forget about it now and when it will come we will call you!!!!!!
No one knows whats the replacement...

Apple's site says they've shipped an iPod, I haven't received the email yet so I can't check the serial number. Fingers crossed that it's a new 8GB Nano, will update when the email comes in. Going from a 1GB Nano to that would be a huge upgrade.

Edit: Yes! Apple has replaced my five year old 1GB Nano with a brand new 8GB. It's things like this that'll keep me a customer for life.

I bought a qualifying Nano on eBay for $45 before Christmas and shipped it in the New Year. It arrived on 01/10 and appears to be shipping out today (01/12). I'd be surprised, if they replaced it with a refurbished old Nano.

I've recieved mine today in Spain by normal courier. Suprisingly it is an iPod nano 6th generation in silver without earphones and charger, just the iPod.
I have to thanks Apple for replacing my old nano iPod, which didn't work well, for a new one much better in my opinion. This iPod is the ideal device for those who like running or going to the gym like me. I think I will use it everyday :)

Here's the timeline of my saga:

Service Requested: 11/17/11
Empty Box Shipped: 12/23/11
Empty Box Received: 12/30/11
Nano Shipped: 1/5/12
Received by Apple: 1/12/12

Thus begins the "six week" wait. Considering that "You will receive an empty box in 2 days" took 7.5 weeks, I'm taking bets on whether the replacement Nano will come before or after my iPad 3.

I have your 1st gen ipod

I have a 4gb black 1st gen ipod working and good condition I will happily trade with you if you are nearby. Contact me by posting here.:p

This is AWFUL.

If i'd known they'd replace my 1st Gen with a current model, I would never have sent it in for what I thought would be a replacement battery or refurbed unit with a different battery. What a ripoff.

#1, the 1st Gen is the ideal form factor for me. I can walk and listen with the iPod in my coat pocket (or even through my shirt breast pocket), change songs, scan back and forth without a glance. The current touchscreen model is useless for that purpose except to change volume. Plus it's way too small to manipulate easily with one hand, even when looking at it (which you have to do). It's a two-hand device. No clickwheel -- you've gotta swipe while looking. And when not looking, be careful not to accidentally swipe when you don't want to. Thanks, Steve!

#2, the 1st Gen Nano and the 1-5th Gen Classic have the best quality audio because they use Wolfson audio chips. All current iPods and iPhones use different audio chips, which have harsh highs and weak lows to my ears, especially with good headphones. Thanks, Steve!

As for greater capacity of the current Gen Nano, I don't need to carry around more than 4GB of music; the 1st Gen Nano was ideal. All Nano Gen designs since the 1st got progressively worse until now it's lost its original purpose.

So, thanks Apple. You sell a defective Nano battery, initiate a recall, and replace the units with a substitute that's inferior in every way but capacity.
