Selling a phone based on Apple intelligence and most it won’t be available for 3-6 months after.

Curious how this will affect apples bogus “carbon neutral“ plans considering the insane amount of power needed to do A.I. 🤣
It runs on device

The Apple Intelligence features are practically the same as those of all other providers. Nice to have for everyday use, but you can live without them. There will be a lot more to come in the next few years. That's why I can wait until the iPhone 17, when there will be more features and they will be more sophisticated and intelligent.

Bigger disconnect between hardware and software with each new iOS/iphone. So the new phone ships with practically nothing that was its main advertising feature?
Yes but everyone is doing it! MS, Intel, everyone. Fake it until you make it.

Am I the only one who wants nothing to do with AI or these new features?
Probably - I find the image cleanup very useful and the writing tools are interesting.

======================================================================
These are the writing tools examples of my response:

Friendly (this is a bit US oriented and it missed the irony in the word interesting):

Yeah, I think it’s really helpful. The image cleanup tool is super useful, and the writing tools are pretty cool too.

Professional:

Indeed, I find the platform to be highly beneficial. The image cleanup tool is particularly useful, and the writing tools are also quite impressive.

Concise:

The platform is highly beneficial, especially the image cleanup tool and impressive writing tools.

thanks for posting that.

i would use slightly different labels for the various responses:

"Friendly" i would label "makes you sound like a 14 year old boy"
"Professional" i would label "makes you sound as if you have written it with AI"
"Concise" i would label as "call center escapee who found a position in marketing"

It's so weird that a major emphasis was put on Apple Intelligence for the new iPhone's and yet most of the features are unavailable, but the new phone is available for pre-order.
Not really. Clearly Apple was caught with its pants down, so much so that everything seems rushed and incomplete. We are all Apple's BETA testers. This is Apple at the behest of its shareholders, not customers.

To tell us that a phone was built for AI is just nonsense, when the spec on this phone was probably complete over 2 years ago.

I get some of the tools are useful, but it just creeps me out and further disconnects humans from reality. It always reminds me of the movie with Adam Sandler where he has a remote control and can put his life on automatic for vast periods. Suddenly he stops and many years have passed and he is totally disconnected from life.

Not iOS region setting, but still Apple ID country (you need a US Apple ID).
This is incorrect. You do not need a US Apple ID. Language must be English(US) in Settings > Apple Intelligence and Siri, and Settings > General > Language and Region. Region does not have to be US, but does have to be a supported Region, ie not EU or China. UK region is OK.

Good to know about the proposed rollout plan. Not surprised to see that some of the features will be available only much later. Seems like those with 15 Pro Max need not definitely upgrade this year.

Which is why I didn’t buy a new phone. What I have works.

I quite literally see no value that I’m willing to pay for from the ai features they seem to have put all their energies into. Apple should move to an 18 month rollout. Actually meet the deadline with some decent worthwhile upgrades and they’ll be greener and prob sell more phones. Prob lower their costs too. Having used ai and fiddled around with it I can see value in certain areas but there’s literally nothing it will add to my life in my phone. I don’t want a summary of my emails. The ones that are important are important and I want all the nuances from what’s written. The rest are junk. I don’t want to corrupt every image I have. Fine use it for noise suppression and perhaps audio enhancement but that’s about it. The rest is nonsense.

The latest update was the most unison-ring ever. Apple has actually cost themselves upgrades with me and I know several people who were all set to upgrade and won’t now.

Apple executives admitted to being caught with their pants down regarding where AI features were headed, and then rejiggered their plans to include Intelligence features. But they won't rush it to market. The release is being done methodically with great consideration — to be great, not to be first.
Where did they admit this?

The thing is that I have been doing everything a certain way for all these years that all these new AI work flow adjustments are not gonna be easy for me to adapt to. Habits are hard to break as a 36year old I guess 😅
Thank God our ancestors adapted to seasons and harsh weather conditions while still hunting/gathering to survive and thrive so we could bear our software updates.

So…. What about the new more realistic voices? It’s advertised by Apple as part of the AI product. I assume unfortunately that even THAT will be 15pro+ only…
That will be released with iOS 18. Tested it on the dev beta and you can choose the language for that AI. It's pretty realistic.

Is there any hope for ANY of these features coming to an iphone 14 pro? Or should I just give up hope now?
I'd give up hope now... the one common factor in all the listed supported hardware (iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max and all 16 models, M series iPads, Apple Silicon Macs) is they all have a minimum 8GB RAM... iPhone 14Pro (and 15 / 15Plus) only have 6GB RAM and I've seen nothing anywhere to suggest they'll get any support... nearest they might come is if any of the Siri improvements are on the server side, but I can't see anything that requires running locally on device happening.

Had a work event yesterday and one of our ex guys who now works for Apple did a presentation on AI. He said that 18.2 when released in December will have Apple Intelligence in Beta only for the other regions, like UK. So still not a final release even in December.
