Which group has bigger numbers? Price-whiners or gloss-whiners?
I find the "Apple is forcing me to buy something too expensive that I don't like and can't use" posts the most humorous, although I have to admit an occasional chuckle at the "Despite enormous growth in sales in a down market, Apple's refusal to build what I'm asking for proves they have no product sense."
Many think the economic downturn hasn't taken effect. Apple have apparently already equalled last years sales, with a quarter to go. Let's see how much their year-on-year growth is before reaching any conclusions. This being the last quarter, I'd expect large growth. Anything less than 12% would mean they failed. This is theirs to lose. It seems a lot, but if you think that any sales they make from now are purely growth figures, it doesn't seem unreasonable.
In the UK, the new monitor is $1,133. Would you really say that's a fair price? I'm not going to complain - I like the product, I want the product, if I can't afford the product, I'm a little disappointed, but Apple are at a bigger loss by losing potential money. Prices like that make me think they don't want my business.
As for the people complaining about the lack of pro features: I don't think this is a pro monitor. It's tough - Apple clearly think glossy displays are adequate for prosumers, but they haven't introduced enough of this range to replace their current lineup, meaning that it's not a direct replacement. The 30" is prohibitively expensive, but the 20" shouldn't be. The marketing also seems to indicate that this is part of a new, consumer-focussed display family rather than an ACD replacement. The price begs to differ, though.
I agree, perfect comment and it extends to the failure that is the MBP. I knew that it was going the consumer route, but Apple went far beyond anything I could have seen.
It's really a step backward on the Pro side in my honest opinion.
I don't see the MBP as a failure. A price drop would have been welcome, but the only real complaint anybody can have is the glossy-only display. That's bad, but it's not major. Proper use of colour profiles and getting used to the product and it should be fine. Perhaps not quite as good as the matte, but certainly not Earth-shatteringly bad.
