Yeah they took a step back this year. Had no hopes for iOS 15 and was still disappointed with how little changed. I had fairly high hopes for iPadOS 15 and was completely baffled with how they managed to bring so little to such a capable device. I hope iPad Pro sales tank this year and Apple realizes they have to offer more in the way of software to take advantage of it. Otherwise, who the hell buys a 16GB of RAM iPad Pro???
Same here. I've been crying wolf about Apple's sad, arrogant complacency for years now, only to be continuously shot down as a "hater". What more proof do y'all need about their aimlessness, lack of product vision and turning innovation-through-drip-tube into a feature?

Otherwise, who the hell buys a 16GB of RAM iPad Pro???
Marques Brownlee, iJustine and maybe 5 other people who want to flex on Youtube.

Was hoping for a weather app after seeing the sweet new app on iOS, looks like it’s taking a lot of the integration from Dark Sky.

I was waiting to see what was happening with ipad os, which ipad would y'all recommend for basic use and being able to occasionally hook to a monitor. I will mainly edit photos but every so often a video, other than that it will be web browsing, YouTube etc

On device app development for the iPad?! Booyah! I’ve been looking forward to this since the iPad came out! Sure, I’m not an iOS developer professionally (I am a developer, just not iOS), but I’ve been waiting for the iPad to be able to self-host for 11 years now!

Another year of getting older, waiting for Apple to implement the most basic of features into iPad. It gets incredibly frustrating waiting and waiting, knowing it’s possible but never practiced.
Apple with Jobs was like watching the first season of The Walking Dead. Everything that followed with Cook was like watching the show dwindle season after season for 10 years just hoping it becomes good again.

I bought a third generation iPad Pro in 2018 confident that the WWDC the following year was going to announce a huge leap in software for the iPad only to be disappointed. I almost bought the M1 iPad Pro this year for the same reason. Glad I learned my lesson.

Universal control was the only thing that really impressed me to be honest.

Am I the only one who thinks Apple is just doing more harm than good, by adding all these features to the "Core-apps" lately? I mean, iMessage has been a mess with all the emoji, memoji keyboards, the GIF-addons et.c already. Now comes the next part with these stacked photos, "Shared with you" et.c. Same can be said for Photos and Notes app.

Also, all these different swipe-motions always being added/changed on the iPad. Where is the cohesiveness?

Am I getting old, or is Apple starting to lose some of that "It-just-works" simplicity? I fear their software lacks a bit of direction lately.

Apple is great at marketing and spin. They know that if there is a software feature linked to hardware then it needs to be announced during the event for the hardware itself, not later. Apple didn’t wait for iPadOS 14 to introduce cursor support, for example, even though it was a fairly major update, they released it with the 2020 IPP and Magic Keyboard hardware.

Marques Brownlee ... who want to flex on Youtube.
I know you're just kidding around, but Marques has been pretty clear in some recent vids he's sticking with his 2018 11" iPad as nothing has really changed (especially no XDR display at that size with this year' model.) Hardly a flex. Those review units go right back to Apple after a few weeks.

This new hardware could use some marketing and spin, because right now it's all specs/ stats with an unchanging baby glove OS.

What a disappointment. I expected at least good external monitor support, better finder and Final cut for iPad.

Absolutely no reason to upgrade from my 9.7’’ Pro. I will replace its cracked glass screen.
Why didn’t they call it iPadOS 14.7? People who bought the new 16GB M1 must feel like idi..s, unless they jut want to spend money for nothing.

Clearly someone very senior up the command chain has ordered software engineers to keep the iPad gimped with such a basic OS.

It's just a shame to have such highly capable hardware rendered almost useless by it's software.

There's no reason Apple can't go crazy with iPadOS and make the software match the hardware, but they choose not to. Year after year after year.

I'm baffled & don't understand it.

Biggest announcement was creating apps on the iPad. The rest was catchup with iOS. They really need to get some high end pro apps out to justify the m1 ipad.
I think the new multitasking control looks better than the current system.

Tim Cook is a supply chain guy. The reason the iPad uses the same CPU as the Mac is because it’s cheaper / easier for THEM to do it that way.

It has nothing to do with making the iPad better. The iPad has been vastly overpowered for years. Now with the M1 and 16gb of RAM that’s mostly just for decoration it’s a bit more overtly silly, that’s all. Here’s 16gb of RAM, and, by the way, your “pro” apps can only actually use five … really?

For my use case there’s simply nothing the iPad can do to justify its high price and the bizarre and arbitrary limitations Apple forces on it. Now that it has literally the same (very expensive) guts as the Mac line, those limitations become even more intolerable.

Imagine having to put aside your $2000 iPad and pick up your $2000 Mac to do a simple task Apple has decided to make painful or even impossible on the iPad even though it’s literally the same machine on the inside. Pure lunacy. No thanks.

I honestly do not understand why the M1 iPad even exists. What can it actually DO that the vastly cheaper iPad Air can’t?
