Over under on Dark Sky making a iOS 14+ compatible widget I can use with this now?
This isn't the first time Apple has had this kind of presentation. It happens regularly. I think the problem was too many people have unrealistic expectations.Seems like Apple’s productivity went down the toilet during the pandemic. This iPadOS update is a joke. Apple, you really dropped this one, no excuses.
I mean, I can’t even… so disappointed.
I don't think I've ever seen a WWDC keynote that has failed to meet the moment as much as this one.
I wouldn’t give you great odds, I’d expect instead for the Weather app (and it would be branded as part of the Weather app) to have a widget (possibly only available in medium, large, or extra large [though extra large is probably iPad exclusive]) widget size) Dark Sky style precipitation-cast display.Over under on Dark Sky making a iOS 14+ compatible widget I can use with this now?
Well storage not Ram.What entry level iPad years ago had 16 GB?
Tell us how thenmultitasking is better but still terrible. there's a better way to do it.
not giving away the idea in a forum post. probably will write a blog post on mediumTell us how then
You are comparing storage and ram.... 2 totally different things.Years ago, people complained the entry level iPad only had 16 GB. Now in 2021, the maxed out iPad with 16 GB is overkill.
When Apple releases a device like the iPad with 16gb of RAM and the OS only supports up to 5gb per app, people are bound to assume Apple was going to do something big with iPadOS this year. Instead they got widgets. This isn't the first time Apple has had this kind of presentation. It happens regularly. I think the problem was too many people have unrealistic expectations.
People shouldn't have assumed. Bad things happen (most of the time) when assumptions are made, especially tech purchasing assumptions. When Apple releases a device like the iPad with 16gb of RAM and the OS only supports up to 5gb per app, people are bound to assume Apple was going to do something big with iPadOS this year. True, but big changes need to happen eventually. That was the right time for it, with M1 Macs and M1 iPads fresh out of the oven. It's not unrealistic expectations to look forward to the kind of software that brings this hardware to life. Also.. when was the last year something big happened?Apple is about incremental updates with a sprinkling of new features here and there. Big changes don't happen every year. People need to stop assuming facts (read: rumors) not in evidence. It will make for happier days.
this was explained by Craig: they only do an app, if it is really exceptional - like e.g. the first version of the "stocks" App for the iPhoneIt appears that the M1 chip still isn't powerful enough to support a calculator app for the iPad.
You are forgetting much needed improvements like Widgets all over the place that were in Android for the past 10 years. The pen also gains functionalities that I liked a lot on my old Galaxy Note. Better late then never!Baby Xcode, new multi-tasking and feature parity with iOS 14. Jheez.
I agree with you about today. If Apple had chosen to do big today after releasing the new awesome M1's, it could have created even more Apple fervor, especially for this considering their first iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, or iPad. Apple chose (probably last year or earlier) what today was going to show. As an end consumer, I am happy with today. It didn't wow me but, I wasn't looking to be "wow."True, but big changes need to happen eventually. That was the right time for it, with M1 Macs and M1 iPads fresh out of the oven. That’s what I take exception with. It’s not a laptop replacement, per se, nor was it ever intended to be. It’s something other than a laptop that happens to do a lot of the same things as laptops (also, how many people buy laptops just to watch YouTube, check Facebook, read email? Has to be a lot of people), but it does them in different ways. How to do those things is something Apple is still working on. The iPad is 11 years old now, when the Mac was 11 years old, the best Mac you could get were the first generation PowerPC Macs running System 7.5, which had just introduced the menu bar clock. Multitasking had just become a full system-supported feature in 7.0, and 7.5 was the first release with TCP support included and the first release with a hierarchical Apple menu.Everyone was waiting with bated breath on iPadOS 15 to turn the iPad into the laptop replacement it was always meant to be… Still no updated Files app/library and no external monitor support. Once again we’re left twisting in the wind wondering what we’re going to do with all that wasted power.
Apple does not want it to be a laptop replacement or more precisely it does not want it to be a laptop replacement for someone who will also buy a MacBook as they want them to buy the MacBook. It is a laptop replacement for someone who does not need a laptop.Everyone was waiting with bated breath on iPadOS 15 to turn the iPad into the laptop replacement it was always meant to be… Still no updated Files app/library and no external monitor support.
