they truly have no excuse for taking an extra 5 months to roll this out.

andddd there goes 5% of their stock value.

No Excuse? How about to get it right? Siri is probably very complex software and could be a (marketing) nightmare if it doesn't work right. Completely reengineering the phone, including the case, camera, antennae, etc doesn't happen overnight, either. On the other hand, maybe instead, they could have used the time to build a different looking case so that I could advertise my obvious superiority.

The reason I will not be getting an iPhone is I am on Verizon and I use mobile hotspot teathering a lot as I am out driving around alot for work and I find myself doing work on my laptop while sitting in my truck during breaks. Once you use LTE for teathering, you will never go back to 3G. It is just as fast as my home Wi-Fi. And since I am on a grandfathered plan my phone data plan and my 4G teathering is unlimited. I own other Apple products and I was holding out for the new iPhone but once it became obvious there would be no LTE iPhone I picked up a Bionic and while it is no iPhone, it works well for me. Maybe next year.

wow...

What a bunch of whiners, seriously. If you got your hopes up because of a bunch of unsubstantiated rumors pointed towards iPhone 5 and a 4 inch screen you deserve to be disappointed.

That .5 inch difference is negligible at best. Android phone manufacturers prey on the idiocy of "bigger is better" while Apple actually makes the phone BETTER in REAL ways. But but, his awesome android phone has a .5 inch bigger screen than mine!! its GOTTA be better!! RIGHT? RIGHT? Just dumb.

1. The A5 chip has been around for 6 months and took no effort on apple's part to put it in the iphone.

2. Apple didn't design the new camera, they just bought it from another company.

3. The new antenna system doesn't even give true 4g speeds but 2/3 of it.

4. Apple didn't develop the Siri technology, they just threw down a couple hundred million and gave it a new UI.

5. Extended battery life is a given with all new apple products.

6. The only reason why apple made it a world phone is so they can dominate the other 95% of the market that they don't control.

I appreciate apple as a company but what I do not appreciate is laziness and complacency. Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world and after 16 months this is all they have to offer? What else were they doing with all that time?

3. stop violating standards. "up to 14.4" is no where near 2/3 of 4G.

The revolution has begun!

.5 is not negligible when put side-to-side. actually, first time i saw an i4 next to a sII i was surprised how big of a difference it was. that said, to each his own.

I never asked for a redesign.. I just wanted a bigger screen. To me it's much more important than 1080p video recording, camera, 3d rendering, or the so-called assistant. I mean, when you look at any smartphone 90% of it is the display, and 3.5" is outdated right now.. imagine in a year!

But then again, that's just me.

So then just use the phone with the biggest screen you can find.

Personally, I have a good enough vision that I can prefer and appreciate a high resolution screen, which this 4S (and the 4) offers. This phone is going in my pocket or my bag; I don't want it to get any bigger. If I want a big screen, I have an iPad or a laptop.

And those other features you've discounted - graphics power, speed, a vastly improved camera - those are actually big sells for me, and undoubtedly for the majority of smartphone users as well.

In YOUR opinion. I currently have a 3.7" Android phone and going back to a 3.5" device is honestly painful for me. If you're fine with the screen size of the iPhone, then good for you. Don't presume your opinion is smarter than anyone else's opinion.

Have you ever actually used a phone with a larger screen for more than 10 minutes? I have larger hands and I find typing on the larger screens much easier. I also enjoy reading webpages on the larger displays much more. And it was not something I noticed until I started using a phone with a larger display. I do think that 4.3 is about as big as I could go, however. Some of these newer phones coming out with 4.5"+ displays are overkill. 4" to 4.3" is the sweetspot IMHO.

yes i have, the difference is not big enough or important enough to yield all the whining im hearing about it.

I'll gladly take 2/3 the speed of 4G without the battery-draining effects of it. Hell, the 4S actually improves battery life. Couple that with the fact that my major metropolitan area doesn't yet offer 4G, and I'm more than satisfied.

I'd much rather have a sharp Retina display than an over-sized phone screen. Just my opinion, of course.

Well I'm not disappointed by this at all. Some great new features coming our way. Just the camera could sell itself amd HD recording. This has everything you could need right now :) For those of you want a bigger screen... All I can say is go get a driod

1) I would prefer having both.
2) Chaz posted a great pic the other day showing how the SII despite having a significantly larger display had an only marginally larger footprint in comparison with the i4.
