30% less stand-by-time!?

iPhone 3GS: standby - 300 hrs
iPhone 4: standby - 300 hrs
iPhone 4S ... 200 hrs

... it´s magic ... no wonder Steve left...

- by the way, I hate Harry Potter and his magic shi*!

All this was rather obvious.

Apple moved the keynote to a smaller venue.
There was no live video.
Etc.

Actually, it has been rather obvious for a while now with Apple suing anything that moves.

With all that money Apple has this is all they can do in 15 months? Instead of filling their coffers, they may want to use their profits for some more R&D.

1. The A5 chip has been around for 6 months and took no effort on apple's part to put it in the iphone.

2. Apple didn't design the new camera, they just bought it from another company.

3. The new antenna system doesn't even give true 4g speeds but 2/3 of it.

4. Apple didn't develop the Siri technology, they just threw down a couple hundred million and gave it a new UI.

5. Extended battery life is a given with all new apple products.

6. The only reason why apple made it a world phone is so they can dominate the other 95% of the market that they don't control.

I appreciate apple as a company but what I do not appreciate is laziness and complacency. Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world and after 16 months this is all they have to offer? What else were they doing with all that time?

Yes, you're right. I forgot that Apple is the ONLY company in the world that sources it's hardware from other manufacturers.

You're right, they've been slacking for the last 16 months only having put out the Verizon iPhone, the iPad 2, OSX Lion, iOS5... Plus they had to delay the release from the traditional June timing because of the Verizon launch earlier this year...

Okay, so all you haters and whiners,
You don't appreciate the A5 chip which, as proven, mashes up all the competitors' CPUs,
You don't appreciate the new camera, which is as good as the best Android phones,
You don't appreciate the new clever antenna system which makes 4G speeds, without 4G,
You don't appreciate the new awesome Siri voice assistant,
You don't appreciate the extended battery life,
You don't appreciate the fact that it is a world phone.

JUST BECAUSE IT HAS NO NEW CASE! IT STILL LOOKS BEAUTIFUL EVEN TODAY, AND I STILL FIND IT THE BEST DESIGN OF A SMARTPHONE!

I know it's late but the problem with that is:

I won't appreciate till I see independent benchmarks.
I don't appreciate a new camera that's 'as good as' android cameras, which have been out for months now
I don't appreciate a gimmick antenna system designed to satisfy a faulty design. It doesn't give 4G speeds. It gives 3G speeds, something with the S2 can do better (Theoritcal Max of 21MBps in Australia)
I can't appreciate Siri till I've used it, but from what I've seen it's just a more fluent voice control
I won't appreciate that it gets similar or worse battery life than an S2, when the S2 has a far more power hungry screen and has been out longer
I won't appreciate that it's a world phone when the S2 already beat them to it.

Sorry, apple were the ones playing catch up here. I'll admit that Siri could be interesting, but it is such a major gamble to base your phone off voice control.

My wife and I know what we are buying next, 2 new iPhone 4s's. Perfect time for us, our wireless contract just expired 9/28.

To those that are complaining about the iPhone 4s please don't buy one as I would perfer not to have to wait to get mine. :D

As far as the stock price falling, it is a perfect buying opportunity for me.

With all that money Apple has this is all they can do in 15 months? Instead of filling their coffers, they may want to use their profits for some more R&D.

Or they may want to continue to build upon a sustainable business model. Could they put out a vastly redesigned iPhone every year? Sure they could...but why would they? It's still leaps and bounds above the competition, allows them to reduce development costs which generates more profits. Releasing a completely redesigned phone just isn't sustainable in the long run nor does it really make the company any more money...which at the end of the day is the goal of every company, like it or not.

Then it hit me, no phone is going to serve me aswell as a 4s. Why?

iCloud.

Been using the ios5 beta for around 6 weeks on my iPad 2, and things like photostream, iWork etc just won't be available if I go HTC or Samsung

So 4s it is....
Hook. Line. Sinker. ;)

Man, that decreased standby time really sucks for the several days in a row per week where I tend to leave my phone sitting unplugged on my desk...oh wait, I don't care about standby being lower since actual talk time has increased.

Seriously. I'm wondering if I'll need to line up early at my local Sprint store.

BIG caveat:

Per Compare iPhones:
CDMA available only if iPhone 4S is sold and activated for use on a CDMA network.

AKA, if you have any desire at all to work on a CDMA network, you must buy an activated iPhone 4S on a CDMA carrier (Verizon or Sprint in the US.)

It appears that the CDMA-active iPhone 4S will be unlocked world-mode on the GSM side, but you must go on a contract.

Also in the footnotes:
...purchasing an unlocked iPhone (for supported GSM wireless service provider networks only)...

So it appears there will be no unlocked CDMA phone. I would guess (although we won't know for certain until 10/7, the day you can order,) that this means that you will not be able to buy non-contract CDMA phones, either. Right now, the only non-contract iPhones you can buy are the non-S iPhone 4, GSM-only model at $549, or the 3GS 8 GB at $375. (So either you're getting gypped on the subsidy on the 3GS, or a deal on the 4 - the with-contract price difference is $99; the non-contract price difference is $174.)

I was planning on switching to Sprint, but was hoping to get an unlocked, non-contract phone so that I could switch to Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile without waiting two years...

So for me the only thing that's disappointing is no bigger screen. To me it is a usability issue. Even on my EVO 4G with a 4.5" screen I can only use for short periods of time. For the most part I can't read my news for more than a few minutes. My eyes defocus and it takes a few minutes to be able to focus on things around me once I stop reading.

With that said I have wanted an iPhone since 2007 and now since it came to Sprint I can finally get one.

I have a question for all you long time iPhone users or anyone who went to iPhone from Android.

I'm pretty heavily invested in all Google Apps. Google Apps for business, Documents, Email, Navigation. I also have been using Google Voice with my Sprint number via the Google Voice App.

As far as I know there are no native Google Apps on the iPhone. I know there are 3rd party apps that I can use to access Google docs but what about everything else? Except email I know there's no issue with that. But what about Google voice, navigation and Google Apps for business? Does anyone have any experience with this stuff on iPhone that can shed some light on it for me?

Well, I know what I'm doing with my $199... buying a Kindle Fire. :D

Seriously, I was hoping for more. I'm ready to upgrade my 3GS, but now I'm not sure with what...

You're crazy. I have a 3gs. This is a HUGE upgrade compared to the 3gs capabilities.

How do you know the CDMA contract iphones will have their GSM unlocked??

I use my iPad 2 for reading and whatnot, but I have tried using my friend's iPhone 4 and I must say the Retina display is great for reading on a smaller screen. Of course it all depends on the person, I suppose.

Apple has a done a great job with the voice assistance. It's a neat feature and makes the iPhone 4S great. We all knew this would be coming. This is how it is.

iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S
iPhone 5 with a redesign for next year.

This is how Apple works.

Why would they? Because they need to stay ahead. And they don't now. Compare the 4S to the Galaxy S2. Then consider that there won't be a 5 for a while. Do you think the competition are just going to wait for the 5 and not release and new phones? Let Apple catch up?

If reviews end up comparing the 4S negatively to the Galaxy S2 and future phones, what do you think will happen with sales?
There are loyal Apple users but these are not enough.

15 months for that?

really wait for this long enough yet d iPhone 4s is total disaster, as inner beauty is perfect made yet d outside design is so yesterday (stone age) with 3.5 inch screen is outdated even they (apple) think no one can compete as i was having ipad2 when my friends was iPhone 4 compare is d screen just too small for gaming n viewing still they having full hd recording just useless as u can't see clear details n for edit photo well i won't ask my friends to upgrade just wasting money , all our hope was thinner ,larger screen , resolution are not there , my opinion i think they make big mistake wish steve jobs were here to make things better for d aging iPhone 4 concept plssss save d iPhone

HUH??

I'm going to Google Translate with this. Be back in a minute...

Looks like a reasonable incremental update.

But there are a few features missing/not stated.
No HSPA+?
No 5Ghz Wireless N?
How much ram?
What's the processor speed?

Also it says on the Australian apple site:
CDMA only available if iPhone 4S is sold and activated for use on a CDMA network.
Um guys, Australia has NO CDMA network. If CDMA isn't available, you can't exactly claim it has CDMA now can you?

World media both tech and mainstream picking up on the fact that Apple didn't compare to very latest android phones i.e. the Galaxy SII!

I'm getting an android. I am getting older and need a bigger screen. Bye bye for you apple.

Can anyone shed a little light on how CDMA smartphones normally work?

The fine print says the CDMA can't be used unless the iPhone is originally sold and activated on a CDMA carrier. Does that mean if I buy an unlocked iPhone 4S with AT&T I can't later pop out my micro-SIM card, call Verizon or Sprint, and have them activate the phone for use on their network?

No HSPA+? It has 14.4 Mbps HSPA+
No 5Ghz Wireless N? Higher power consumption, not really all that beneficial (smartphone doesn't need that much bandwidth)
How much ram? Between 512MB and 1GB. Apple doesn't disclose to the public normally. We'll find out by the 14th.
What's the processor speed? Likely between 800 MHZ and 1 GHZ, given that they downclocked the A4 slightly from the iPad's 1 GHZ

Comments in bold.

Thanks for network note. I was curious if Verizon phone could be made to work with AT&T or vice versa.

...

World phone...who cares, someone on Verizon currently probably isnt too worried about it and neither is someone on AT&T. That is more for Apple, they now have 1 phone that works with every carrier.

Not following your logic here.

*Anyone* holding a current CDMA iPhone4 that travels beyond the borders of their CDMA zone will certainly be interested in a phone that also has GSM. I for one very much care. It's certainly not just for Apple.

I have an iPad2 also but I prefer not to take it along when I have to do a bunch of running around. In those cases I use my phone. Oh and I have the iPod Touch 4th gen with the retina display but it's the same thing in terms of my eyes defocusing. It's just very hard on small screen like that for me.

The fine print for the iPhone 4S says FaceTime requires wifi. Am I mistaken in thinking that current iOS 5 developer betas allow for FaceTime calls over 3G?

Good for you! Do the talking, I do the walking...

Back here in good old Germany people who talk too much doesn´t really have to say anything in business - mostly the real deal is a "yes", "no", "done", etc.

No seriously, what are you talking all day long...

I´m a man and keep it simple and short (no, my d*** isn´t short..., just in case...)
