Wow, that macOS update appears really meager!

A few new features added to mail - ok, atleast we got something but "send later" was long overdue.
No updates to notes, reminders and calendar, which is really unfortunate. Guess Apple doesn't want to jeopardize all those overpriced 3rd party productivity apps. Ew.

Oh and let's not talk about the web app version of notes on iCloud. Compared to OneNote's web app it's a joke!

All things considered I feel increasingly more tempted to switch back to Windows.

You can switch back to Windows if you want to. It's a great operating system.

As all of you guys, i'm also dissapointed of this new OS. But let's not forget what a lot of people said weeks/months ago here..that they want just a working OS without bugs and without new features.

Feeling “underwhelmed”, but maybe that’s a good thing, more stability is always good.

Did Apple just basically admit their webcams suck, so just use your phone instead? 🤣
Kind of.

But the story is not that Apple's webcams would suck (they do!) due to bad engineering. They suck due to the laws of physics.

The big difference (apart from the non-insignificant difference in the bill of materials) is in the thickness. The MacBook webcam is less than 3 mm thin including lenses, camera, circuit board, glass, and aluminium back cover. This gives a very short optical path, which in turn leads to very small optics. Very small lenses collect very little light and have awful diffraction properties. The result is a blurry and grainy image, and there is very little one can do about it. Small cameras are not good.

On the other hand, the lenses in an iPhone are much larger. There is also more space (and money) for more complex lens systems. All this means sharper images and much better low-light performance.

The ability to use iPhone as a webcam will have a visible impact on many Teams/Zoom/Google/whatever meetings. I am really looking forward to having it! (Even though, then I cannot use my iPhone to entertain myself during dull meetings. Oh well, let's use the computer, instead.)

I was really hoping for an overhauled Calendar app, as well as a new Music app. Mail changes didn’t go far enough either. I miss the days when OS updates meant fresh versions of the core built in apps. Now they just throw a bone every few years and let apps fall way behind. Calendar app feels downright archaic at this point
We still might get music. They added Clock and Weather to the Mac and said nothing. Lets pray.

Is it just the OS stopping games like the new Resident Evil running on M1 iPads? Since the iPads and Mac all use the same M1 chips and will have the same Metal 3 software, how difficult would it be to get the same games running across the devices?

Stage Manager ?
I have used macOS Desktops / Spaces for year. Put diffent projects on different desktops, switch easily.
I am quite curious to see if the new features in Ventura help my own workflows.

I tend to organize windows on different desktops, but very often large part of my work happens within a single application, typically multiple Word or PowerPoint windows, or multiple tabs in Safari. As long as I can switch between windows with cmd-Tab, everything is fast and easy, but going to cmd-´is quite clumsy, and trying to remember tab numbers for cmd-<number> is beyond my very limited cognitive capabilities.

When all this is combined with Preview's "to tab or not to tab" when opening several files and using an iPad as a second display on the road, I really appreciate any useful innovations.

And, to add to my already wishful thinking, I really hope Apple makes using external 4k displays easier. Switching to 4k mirroring is not a very good idea, and the option to use FHD with UHD displays is hidden behind magic option-key use. Very often 4k displays have bad HDMI cables and are much more reliable at FHD.
