I am guessing you are not leaning that heavy into everything you buy.

I mean I just said that I was, but OK?

I think there are going to be a lot of sad and confused people when Trump hands over the Presidency at the end of his term. I think that alone will confuse so many as you all expect him to become a dictator.

He already is acting as a dictator, actually, and already tried to overturn the results of one election. He will absolutely do it again in November and again in 2028; the only thing that may save us is that he's already old and demented.

You have gotten rid of all your Apple products right?

No, but I returned my iPhone 17 Pro when they removed ICEblock from the App Store, and haven't bought anything since. I know it's hard for Trumpers to understand that many people sincerely have values and principles that they’ll uphold even if it’s difficult or inconvenient.

This virtue signaling silliness is a distraction, and it's also divisive. Apple needs to stop spending time and effort on these things.
Reacting to something one doesn't like, or approve of, and calling it divisive is blaming others for your beliefs. Put another way it's the language of those who cherish their entitlement and victimhood. Both popular in right wing nationalistic politics. .

This post taught me two things…
1 - The watch band is ugly AF
2 - 97.24% of MR readers are liberals
American discourse has turned “liberal” into a vibes-based insult that means “this person thinks society should keep functioning when markets fail.” Half the people branded that way would land dead center in most of Europe. Not “center-left.” Center. The kind of politician where voters squint and ask which party they’re even in.

The reality is American society is almost completely liberal. Conservatives are also members of the liberal sect. It is a religion of its own that has already been condemned by the Church, except most people don’t realise this.

Condemned by which Church? Other than cults and Christian Nationalists, give me an example of a mainstream church in the US that does not support liberal democracies as the best form of government.

BTW - Liberal democracies are defined as: "democratic system of government in which individual rights and freedoms are officially recognized and protected, and the exercise of political power is limited by the rule of law."

I think people are triggered by the hypocrisy of it given Cooks new found bff.

Maybe Cook respects the Office of the Presidency more than the person holding the office. It is possible for some people to separate the two. This idea is not mutually exclusive. Cook, to my knowledge has attended meetings and events with all Presidents that have held office since he became CEO. Jobs served as an advisor to President H.W. Bush. Many would find the Bush family equally distasteful.

I understand what you're saying, but it's also possible to say that Job's was wrong supporting a war mongering *******, and that Cook is wrong to align himself and his business with actual nazi's. By your logic it would have been ok aligning your business with Hitler because of respect for the position of German Chancellor.

I still cannot believe that the stupid sock thing managed to sell out.

I am questioning your actual commitment to this beyond Trump. It is a fad right now. Nothing made in China I am sure, no electronics made by Foxconn. Easy to jump on the big bad man right now because a bunch of loud voices are making it trendy and letting people feel self righteous. I am also not a Trumper. I would not have voted for him and don't like him. I don't think everything he is doing is wrong though and I can see what he does that is good and what is bad, can you say one thing you like that Trump has done? One thing that you think is good for the country?

Will you retract your statement when he peacefully leaves office at the end of his term? I will certainly say opposite if he actually tried to stay in office beyond his term.

Yes, name ONE THING that he does or did that is good for anybody but himself. A single thing.

No. This is such an obnoxious internet trope—the people raising the alarm about XYZ are hysterical, then use the fact that the alarms were successful in proving them hysterical after the fact.

Covid is a great example—health officials urged masking and social distancing to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed, we (mostly) managed to do that, then the far-right said masking and distancing weren’t necessary bc the hospitals weren’t overwhelmed.

So no, if by some miracle Trump peacefully leaves office (unlike the last time), it says nothing about the way he’s acting now, which is as a fascist strongman who thinks (and argues in court constantly) there’s no check on his power at all. This isn’t remotely subtle anymore and you aren’t clever or edgy for denying it.

And I won’t be giving kudos for something that 44 other Presidents have done, without any prodding, for 250 years.

I will certainly say opposite if he actually tried to stay in office beyond his term.

You mean like he didn’t do the only other time he was faced with this situation? Why would the next time be different?

"Sure, he has people murdered, promotes hate and violence, and is corrupt but he also does some good stuff. Why do you have to focus on the murder and corruption?"

"Why are you so focused on the thing he's said he's going to do, tried to do before, and is actively trying to do now? He might not do it. He might just fix the election for his chosen successor! Once it's too late, then I'll admit I was wrong. Won't that be better than actively trying to stop it?"
