No one seems to have mentioned that the 15" retina weighs a pound less than it`s older sibling, which is a 26% reduction.

Good catch; that's part of what turns me off to 15" and 17" models, is the weight. Not that I'm weak, but they can get cumbersome for being touted as super portable (not as bad as my old 15" Compaq though, that was a behemoth).

The results are clear enough for me to make a decision!

That 750GB HD will be noticeably slower than the SSD in the retina.

Let's try another comparison:

Does anyone know if these new MacBook Pro are going to have optical drive? I know the macbook air do not do to they are very thin ,lightweight for people on the go or college/university kids. But what about gamers and pro users that get MacBook Pro at leat the 15 inch and 17 inch MacBook Pro that needs a optical drive?

How would you buy software , games and hardware devices like printers and such that come with CD.None of the gamers or people into software will be able to run any thing.

This is my 100% dream machine. If you consider how awesome it is, it really isn't that expensive.

USB 3.0 - Great
Bluetooth 4.0 - Great
HDMI - Would be great if it wasn't only available on Retina Display model.

I have no interest in even considering a Retina Display MBP right now. Going for a new design when it's just out of the gate is always costly and usually perilous. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next 12 months. Will they introduce a 13" Retina MBP or is it too similar to the 13" Air?

I'm very disappointed that they still haven't given the 13" Pro a 1440x900 option (preferably AG).

visit the store ffs. Everyone else did.

but the maps....

it looks good on screen but if you don't live in usa... as guy from voldzi.cz said, it is not the best apple could show...

So nothing about the iMac, or did I miss it trying to read the live feed at 4am on my 3Gs LOL

I'm disappointed, really want to get a new iMac but at this point I wouldn't even get the 'New' Mac Pro even if I had the money, that upgrade after 2 years was a joke!

Hope we heard something about the iMac soon, but it guess it means I can save up more to get a better model when it does come out. #SliverLining.

Are you kidding? The optical drive hasn't been needed for any of that crap for a long while now.

Nearly all software for the Mac is digitally distributed these days, and "hardware devices" that come with CDs have, for decades, come with outdated drivers in the box. The most up-to-date software is always available on the company's website.

What do you mean? What store ?

MS office for mac , iWorks ,Final Cut Pro and Aperture ,Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk's AutoCAD, and Blizzard's Diablo III, star craft comes with CD that must be loated .If no CD drive how do you load it?

I don't mind the absence of USB 3.0, but it's very stupid that Apple's pro machine doesn't have Thunderbolt.

you realise that not even PC Mobos have TB ports until last few weeks?

Its very new on the larger mobo makers. USB has only just became native support.

There are also Thunderbolt PCI-e adapters u can buy for PC's maybe work on osx

The Apple store. http://store.apple.com/uk

All the info is on there.

A lot of users already have SSD which is faster than Apple provides.
I would rather buy the MBP with HDD to upgrade it later with OptiBay.

Did I miss something or is there really
NO Kensington Lock port?

I mean Kensington's service sucks, but the feature isn't bad.

Yeah, if they didn't want to redesign the ports then at least add a free PCI card with dual TB ports, or maybe TB and USB3 as a stop gap measure?

It's gone from the Apple Store so it looks like it's terminal. Which is a shame as I was waiting for a refresh to update mine. Now I think i will just hang on to it for the moment. A smaller retina screen doesn't really cut it for me. It has more pixels sure, but at 2880x1800 it's presumably going to be a crisper version of the same material which would display at 1440x900, which is nowhere near 1920x1200.

I'm there with you. The Retina MBP is the same resolution as an MBA 13, and frankly, I'm not crazy about getting the traditional MBP 15 with a high-res screen, as I was looking forward to the new chassis without optical disk. Got some thinking to do now.

90% of the games out there and 90% the software out there and office for mac , iWorks ,Final Cut Pro and Aperture ,Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk's AutoCAD, and Blizzard's Diablo III, star craft are at the apple store ??? I don't think so.

wouldn't it have just been simpler to offer the display as an upgrade option for the other macs? Why do they need yet another notebook line up.

Maybe, but I think this is Apple's attempt to put a nail in the coffin of optical drives and HDDs.

If you upgrade a normal macbook to retina, you get less battery life, longer boot-up times and launch times (because the UI elements and icons are all larger), and a noisier cooling system trying to cool off the graphics card that is working much harder. Apple wants to remain a "no-compromises" company.
