"The new iPad Air is powered by the new 5nm-based A14 Bionic chip"

Evans leak prove to be correct - he was getting blasted on twitter - I can't believe they put the A14 now before the phone.

I guess for Pro Motion and Face ID? But yeah, doesn’t seem worth another $200.
It’s those two plus quad speakers and LIDAR, as well as another 0.1” of screen.

Edit: An earlier version of this comment incorrectly stated 0.2”.

So, weren't "Air" models of products always the smaller, lighter and "base" models? This is basically an iPad pro. Also, this new chip couldn't go in the iPad pro a couple months ago? I just...why?

Who are the customers that could benefit from upgrade to 2020 Air? We have a 2017 10.5" Pro with A10X CPU. It is fine for most of the stuff we're doing with it (web, media consumption). It hasn't lived up to potential as laptop replacement, so we haven't invested into keyboard cover.

Interesting that they didn't take the chance to re-name the lineup given the Watch and Phone lineups.

Would it not make sense to have:

iPad mini (why do they never update this thing?)
iPad SE ($329 model)
iPad (currently "air")
iPad Pro (11")
iPad Pro Max (12.9")

So, no more iPad sitting at the $499 mark? This new Air is awesome, and so nice to see more colourful options.

Also, I know the 11” Pro has quad speakers, 120hz display, Face ID, and LiDAR, but I feel like this Air will steal a lot of those sales.
That’s ok with Apple, and is no doubt a large part of why the price increased by $100. Yeah, the mix will change, with more buyers opting for the Air rather than the Pro, but will Apple’s revenue and profits increase? Probably.

Prediction:

iPad Pro getting replaced by a MacBook with a foldable (maybe detachable) display w/apple pencil support. Will use a beefed up A14+.

That why the iPad Air ships in Oct (same month for the Apple Silicon MacBook announcement which uses the A14+).

Side benefit: Apple‘s margins go up. iPad Pro users migrate to a higher margin unit for Apple.

What 11" ipad pro has over the new ipad air

- 0.1"
- up to 1T SSD
- 10MP Ultra Wide
- starting with 128GB instead of 64 SSD
- the dimensions and weight are almost the same
- 600 nits max brightness over 500nits on the air
- ProMotion technology
- Brighter True Tone flash
- Four speaker audio
- faceID / touchID
- LIDAR
- more Ram

So, i hope this will be helpful
Based on these...people, expect the next cheaper iPad pro to start from 899$ instead of 799$ and thats for sure

Chip either didn't exist or they intentionally held it back to entice people with upgrade to $600 device. Apple must do a ton of research to ensure people upgrade iPads every couple or 3 years. Pretty soon we'll get to the point (price and performance) where it's no longer meaningful to upgrade every couple of years.

599$ whtf? really? NO! In Europe will be damn overprices after taxes, this is not AIR, this is PRO SE model. Apple got the name wrong.

Now what would make it Ipad pro SE? The upgraded form factor? It still has the regular cpu and basically regular everything else too.
