So, besides Japanese Siri, any word on iOS 5.1? If that's all there is, that'd be a pretty disappointing update.

And LTE, and dictation (might be the most useful thing they added after the screen, BTW) and a better camera (FWIW).
Honestly, what else could they have possibly done? (Especially with keeping the same battery life and almost the same size & weight?) I don't know what you were expecting, but it couldn't have been realistic.
Well, it could have had the full Siri. That's about it.
I'm just curious...what were you actually expecting? Almost everything was updated:
- much better screen
- much better camera
- much better graphics (quad-core)
- 4G LTE
- (probably) more RAM
What were you hoping for? A quad-core CPU? 128gb model? Haptic feedback? Those are the only features that didn't make the cut, but I'm not sure if haptic feedback ever will, and the other two will probably be saved for the next iPad. They have to save something for the next-gen...
Edit: I forgot about Siri. I'm actually kinda surprised that they didn't include the full Siri. Seems odd.

I called them and they said they couldn't take any orders.
It's still listed as "beta." It can be added later as software if Apple wants to do so.
apple site? <shrug> person above ordered by phone, i used the iphone app. already received my confirmation by email. arrives at house on the 16th (supposedly) opted for standard shipping.
i knew demand would be high, just wished apple could scale more for it. I'm sure they have lots of hardware behind that store too. it's not like it is in their best interest to be down and not take the money we are throwing at them.
I was about to get an iPad 3, but as it doesn't have 3D capabilities, I think i'll wait a bit longer.
And no 4D! I wanted the ability to go back and watch myself write this, write this...

I think this is a fantastic iPad update. I think because of the rumors we got so used to the idea of a retina iPad that we might have forgotten just how awsome this is going to be. I challenge the doubters to try one out and see if they are not greatly impressed by the newip's screen.
I've been trying since the store originally opening after the press event (literally 5 seconds after it opened!!!) and i've still not get a pre-order in
I think some people must be using voodoo or something!
The first time I called they said that they couldn't take calls due to overwhelming volume. I got through on the second attempt. Guss I was lucky...sat on hold waiting for a customer rep for about 8 minutes, then it started ringing for about 10 mins and finally someone picked up. Placed my order and all is good.
