For those of you thinking that Apple is losing focus, here's a thought:

Yes, we should have all 80,000 Full-Time Apple Employees concentrating on a solution to this problem.

For you service engineers out there, ever try to problem solve by committee?
For those of you that aren't service engineers, let's just say that it's not the best way to do it, as the number of opinions you get to solve a problem is (Number of Engineers+2)! so if you have 9,996 engineers, that number will be 2.846544335 E+35651 (or so) different solutions.

My iPad Pro is only a few days old but hasn't had this issue (yet...)

I suspect it might have to do with how the iPad Pro was setup -- maybe the backup / restore process or transferring from another iPad caused issues.

I set mine up over the air without connecting to iTunes or restoring from the backup of another iPad. I figured I was going to use the Pro for specific purposes, so a clean install made sense. (No need for 5 year old games, unsupported apps, etc.)

If anyone's having this issue, perhaps you can post how you set up the iPad and if you did a restore.

I'm having the issue and I didn't restore my iPad from a backup. It appears as though it's affecting both types of setups, unfortunately.

I'm curious as to what part of "Apple is aware of this issue and is investigating" is unclear to folks.......
This part: "Apple is aware of this issue and is investigating"

It sounds like Apple is aware of the issue and is investigating.

I'm going to go all out here. I'm sure this will be my last post as I'll be kicked off this board. Why all the apple bashers and posters of absolute stupidity will be allowed to stay is beyond me. Well, not really. The owners simply want posting numbers even if their forums now have a very bad reputation as a place to whine and complain instead of providing useful information.

I couldn't agree more. This place is 95% sarcastic smack, whining and bashing.
There are very few comments that are meaningful and informative. Hardly any.
It's so time consuming rifling through sarcastic, junk comments.
Macrumors is a playhouse for whiney, smart a$$ children that are constantly trying to one up the previous post with a more smart a$$ remark in hopes for a up vote.
It seems that most of all the adults have left, and just don't respond and or engage anymore. I am very soon to follow.

Oh, and the most stale catch phrases around. 'You're doing it wrong" "Gate-whatever" on and on and on.

I set mine up as a "New iPad". I have had the problem happen to me twice. This is my 5th night owning it. The battery is so good that thankfully I only had to charge twice in that time. As I am typing now, I still have 28% battery left.
I will charge again tonight, hopefully it will not happen again.
I am thinking about returning it. Although, I hate to, but I am afraid it may be a hardware issue.
I guess I have 9 or so days to make that decision.
With that said, I absolutely love this machine and will replace if and when I do return...at a later date.

Man alive :p everyone run ... !! its a regular MR flood. ... I can get some 0's and 1's from that... i

Their would be complaints on the iPad Pro throughout just for the sake of saying..

I'm sure most of them would be "I want my money back" while the other 50% of them would be "Apple *****"

Still haven't seen this issue on my unit, but I've only left it on the charger overnight twice so far (generally I'll pull it when it hits 100%).

Bye all. Enjoy the absolute stupidity and uselessness of this forum thank to the abundance of idiots here that the mods obviously enjoy having around.

You're describing the entire internet (world?). Try posting about a bug/issue with a device on Reddit... you'll be downvoted because you posted in an area full of fans who don't want issues publicized (how do we fix them then?).

There's another side though. I see intelligent discussions going on in forums like this all the time, but you have to be willing to filter the noise out yourself and ignore it. Sometimes a discussion gets killed by angry insanity, which is unfortunate, but you just move on and keep trying.

It sounds like Apple is aware of the issue and is investigating.

Do you think Apple is aware of the issue? I wonder if they're investigating it at all.

It there is a support page on it, i'd believe Apple...

U think Apple would put up a page just to ease the nerves of everyone and label it as "not important" ?

I'm wondering if Apple is recalling the units in the shipping channel. I ordered mine on Nov 11th with a due date of Nov 25-30. I received notice several days ago that it shipped and was due to be delivered on Nov 20th. Tracking showed it made it to Louisville this morning. Now it says that it has just shipped from China *again* with no estimated arrival. I chatted with Apple and all they could offer was "we stand by our original estimated dates." With no other explanation other than they are having problems with the tracking. Huh?? Thanks a lot Apple.

Except that in practice that’s not even close to being true. Let’s say that a cable passing electrical charge broke down and you brought in a team of 80,000 engineers to assess why.
The first one may say there was an external influence that compromised it, the second may say that it was a production issue resulting in a subpar component.
The 3rd, 4th……..80,000th will might likely say it was either over current or over voltage.

So I fixed your post with red text, as the theory is the same but the practice is significantly different.

iOS 9 reboots nightly when on charge to clear the RAM, its extremely annoying not being able to use Touch ID to unlock in the morning as it only accepts pin code after a restart. This iPad Pro problem could be related to this as the memory maintenance causing a reset must have been created by a careless programmer.

If you're an engineer, you proved my point!

Thank you!

What amazes me is how Apple missed this in testing. DOES Apple actually test anything? Based on recent OS X release, I couldn't exactly say yes. I think their tests are far too limited or something. Betas go out and then public release and WHAM, it's like NO ONE NOTICED THIS BEFORE??? WTF!?!? Oh well. Buy a Surface 4 Pro. You may or may not be happier, but at least you can run something. ;)

My iPad Pro had the problem and I took it to the Apple Geniuses. They didn't have a clue. I took it home and reinstalled the software from my backup, which installs a new version of 9.1. It froze once after that, and I restarted it. Since then it has not frozen. YMMV

I have an iPP with no problems of far. But, all this conversation reminds me that I had issues both with a pre-ordered iPad Air 2, and my beloved 12" rMB. Yes, I'm one of those people that get up at 12:00 a.m.-4:00 a.m. to pre-order. Of course I was also one of those people that stood in line hours before the Apple Store opened so I could snag the latest greatest Apple device.

I had to totally reinstall the system at least four times on both the iPad Air 2, and the rMB. I had many hours of lost productivity, and of course lost many ours of enjoyment.

The Apple Store finally replaced my iPad Air 2 out of stock after I raised a fuss in the store after many hours of reinstall of the OS, and hours on the phone with AppleCare. The 12" rMB never got replaced after 4 reinstalls something finally got fixed and it is now rock solid. Maybe an OS X update finally came along that addressed the issues I was having? I will never know.

I must have amnesia about being an early adopter, as I ordered the iPP at 4:00 a.m. and picked it up the same day. I really feel sorry for people that are having issues with their iPP. I know how issues like this can suck the joy out of having a new Apple device.

Can someone explain the hypocrisy of not adding touch to a MacBook because Jony Ives claims that it would be a bad user experience to have to reach out and touch a screen while sitting at a desk, but then coming out with an iPad "Pro" with docking keyboard can ONLY be used by reaching out and touching the screen because there is no trackpad or mouse support in iOS?

I wish Apple would stop mincing ideologies with every product release and contradicting themselves. The company is coming off as a bunch of silo projects that come out and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

One thing that Apple is starting to lack is cohesion. Steve Jobs was the glue that held the company and all its products together and so one product release did not contradict the statements made about other products, but today Apple comes out with a "pro" device that is lousy in a desktop environment, but refuses to make a MacBook Air a little better by adding touch support to OS X that might make it better in a mobile environment.

You noticed that, did you? ;)

Given how many Macs Apple sells to people who plan to use Boot Camp and Windows, wouldn't it behoove them to offer a touch-screen on Macs for no other reason than to be touch compatible with Windows, even if OS X doesn't currently support touch? They already make touchscreens, so I don't think it would be a big issue to support them for that reason alone. They would then have an installed base of users with Touch so if/when they start to add some Touch support to OS X (even if it's just 3rd party App options at first), they'd already have an installed base ready to go.

I wish Apple would stop mincing ideologies with every product release and contradicting themselves. The company is coming off as a bunch of silo projects that come out and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

It's more like Tim Cook doesn't know technology from the time of day and Johnny Ive's massive ego won't let him do something he thinks is copying someone else unless he thinks he can do it slightly different (even if worse) and make everyone think the Emperor has clothing on.

What would work great would be something similar to the Surface Book, but have it switch between OS X and iOS when you switch the screen to tablet mode automatically. Add some features to iOS to bridge the two together so they talk to each other better and you've got two-in-one without compromise and the touchscreen could be used in Boot Camp and if OS X added some optional touch features at some point. It's simply a waste of resources to carry around two devices when one will do. Put an A9x in the Macbook Pro with a reversible touchscreen and you'd have all the hardware changes you'd need to run both NOW instead of later.

The other argument I don't buy about "optimizing" experiences for touch and desktop separately so you don't end up with half-baked "sorta both" software is that developers STILL have to make two SEPARATE applications for the Apple environment (iOS and OS X) and that means duplicating one hell out of a lot of work for two different environments. How is that ANY different from making a hybrid program that has two optimized interfaces for two different modes of operation? Either way you have to make TWO programs. Whether they're conjoined or not is MOOT. In fact, you'd probably save a LOT of work having ONE program that has two interfaces than two programs running on two different operating systems with two different processors and different APIs, etc. than ONE that has the same core but two different GUIs.

In short, Apple's arguments are 110% BULL CRAP. (and it will cost them in the long run if they stick to their guns)

This is my 4th iPad. Had the original; iPad 3, iPad Air, and now the Pro. My wife had the mini, now mini 4.

The iPad Pro has locked-up charging at least once each of the 5 days I've had it.

I'm starting to wonder if I should return / exchange it.
