I've had this from the beginning (on my M1 Mini), always assumed it was my monitor/HDMI cable. It rarely appears, and only appears for a minute, and if I hover the cursor near it, it disappears, so not really a big concern.

On my 2020 intel Mac, the first time computer restarts, my display gets a pink line all the way down the left side. I have to unplug it from the back of the mini, and then back in, the pink goes away.

I guess it's not only a M1 problem.

Maybe Apple isn't as good a GPU designer as they think they are... Intel, AMD & nVidia have been doing it a long time, and have the compatibility with external devices figured out.
Let's remember that Intel released a CPU that had issues with FP Division and even though they found out about it a year before the news got a hold of it they denied it until it hit mainstream media. $12.00 / $4.00 = $392382 WTF!

OMG this post is so.....UGH. Would your silly logic apply to Apple not being as experienced with laptop CPUs as Intel but then Apple comes out with the M1 and Intel is suddenly looking more stupid?

Happened to me on M1 MacBook Air when using dispalyport adapter. Switched to HDMI and have not had the issue after that.

UGH! lol... sorry to get your panties in a bunch.

This is nothing about performance, sherlock. Was just referring to people drooling over the M1 like its best thing since sliced bread, Apple could do no wrong, blah blah...

Everyone makes mistakes, and since Apple developed this SoC, they probably did not test with so many different displays out there as the others might have.

I've never had issues with amd cards not outputting video correctly. I mean it's literally the most basic function of a gpu. I like apple as much as anyone but we can't just excuse the most basic stuff like this, 6 months after launch.
I've had issues with every GPU I've ever used in any machine. Go away troll.

Well considering this exact issue has happened on Intel Macs too, I guess you don't have any idea what you're talking about...

I've got this very occasionally since I got the machine. It's rare but had me thinking there was something wrong with the machine.

Glad to see someone is finally going through the backlog of bugs and catching up.

You know Apple has a release cycle to meet, and they made a decision what wasn’t a high priority to fix and what they considered to meet their acceptance level. So while Tim Cook himself probably didn’t sign off on the decision directly, he does allow that sort of infrastructure and culture to exist.

In my experience I can say most of the glitches and incompatibilities with M1 macs derive from GPU related things.
The Ram and CPU work wonderfully (for what they are), yet the GPU creates all sorts of problems for me.
I think optimising it is the most important thing for them to work on.

I wonder if there are certain machines that are more susceptible. I have a M1 Mini with 16GB Ram and 1TB...ZERO issues. Most stable Mac I have had (new Mac every 4-5 years all the way back to the Power Mac 6100)...and WAAAAAY more stable that the 2018 i7 Mac mini it replaced. And faster too...by ALOT. Mine is connected to a 4k 32" monitor...no pink squares.

I do not have this issue on my M1 Mini (1TB/16GB) with Belkin UHD High Speed 4K HDMI cable (AV10175ds2M-BLK) from the Apple store on a LG 27UL550-W.

It’s certainly a software, not a hardware, issue, so GPU design has nothing to do with it.

And you think nobody ever has problems with Intel, AMD or nVidia? Seriously?
Agreed. Dealt with a DP issue yesterday on a RX 590 AMD build. My old rig with a NVIDIA 560 Ti also would give me issues when it first came out with every driver update however after a few years it's stabilized. It's only been a few months and thus far only issues I have seen was lack of HDR. No pink lines on mine with my LG 5K.

don't worry, its only effecting "a small number of users", the usual response to such problems lol.
i myself have the m1 mac mini and am using an hdmi cable and not having the problem so hey maybe apple is right.
