I`m kinda confused..
I was quite sure ppl would go absolutely ape-****-bonkers, as soon as I saw that picture of a new MBP with nothing but four usb-c ports.
NO USB3 NO HDMI NO SD NO MagSafe NO 3.5mm anyone?? WTF??
IMHO the really should keep AT LEAST ONE USB3 port for two to three more years..

Damn ... 'nuff peeps just had a virtual orgasm in their mac happy beds with todays invite going public.

A refreshed 13-inch MacBook Air with USB-C ports has also been rumor

Makes not sense to have a new gen MacBook Air when the Macbook is thinner and pretty much is now the same device. Smarter for Apple to reduce manufacturing, and marketing costs let alone training to try to upsell a user to a new product, when the existing one fits the bill. Better to just have 1 high-end MacBook that does what the "Air" aspires to be.

Apple today sent out media invites for a Mac-centric event that will be held on Thursday, October 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Apple's Cupertino campus.

The October event is expected to focus on the introduction of new Macs, headlined by a much-rumored and highly anticipated revamped MacBook Pro. According to rumors, the new MacBook Pro will feature the first redesign to the machine since 2012.

A thinner, lighter body is expected, with a wider, pressure-sensitive trackpad and a flatter MacBook-style keyboard with the same butterfly key mechanism. The MacBook Pro will be available in the same 13 and 15-inch size options, and will feature USB-C with USB 3.1 support for faster transfer speeds, Thunderbolt 3, and Touch ID.

Touch ID is expected to be built into a new OLED touch panel built into the top of the MacBook Pro, where it will replace the physical function key row. The OLED touch panel is said to feature contextual buttons that will change based on each app that's in use. A leaked chassis suggests it will feature four USB-C ports and a headphone jack, but no HDMI port, no USB-A ports, no MagSafe connector, and no SD card slot.

A refreshed 13-inch MacBook Air with USB-C ports has also been rumored, but it is not clear if other internal changes will be made to Apple's low-cost machine. It's possible the 13-inch MacBook Air will be a standalone product going forward, based on rumors suggesting the 11-inch model will be discontinued.

Apple is also said to be working on updated iMacs with AMD graphics chips, which could be introduced at the event, and we might possibly see the debut of a rumored 5K Retina display with an integrated GPU. Apple discontinued the original Thunderbolt Display earlier this year, but an updated product has been in the works and it makes sense to release it alongside refreshed Macs if it's ready to launch.

Apple's Mac Pro and Mac mini are in dire need of refreshes, having been updated last in 2013 and 2014, respectively, but it is not clear if these machines will also see updates at the event.

MacRumors plans to provide live coverage of Apple's October 27 event, both here on MacRumors.com and through our MacRumorsLive Twitter account. Apple will also live stream the event on its website and on the Apple TV.

The invite looks a bit like the lg oled adverts. Wonder if they're going with oled panels too

It's only the same if you own multiple Macs. If your MacBook is your only computer, then there is a big difference between the rMB and MBA.
- MBA is faster
- MBA has better battery life
- MBA has better keyboard
- MBA has more ports

I would instantly buy an MBA with a retina display.

Just speaking personally – yeah it's the same thing, but it makes me laugh every single time. Genuinely. It's a bit of an in-joke. Something esoteric. You're half-expecting it before even reading the comments. It's reassuring and comforting. It doesn't take sides; it's not pro-Apple or anti-Apple. It's like a nice old blanket.

That's why I like the gif.

Thanks, that kind of make more sense now :)

"It takes courage to remove all the ports all over the Mac line, and solder everything together (even in the Mac Pro now), a maximum of 256GB of SSD at an ultra priemium price (to use our iCloud drive), and no more than 8GiB of RAM for all non-Pro devices, to party like it's 1999 (or 5 years ago for that matter). And everything at 100 dollars more than before, because <insert any currency exchange rate/inflation/taxes excuse possible>, and even 50 more for Europeans, because we care for them so much. Can't innovate anymore, my ass!"

I feel like they're going to do something radical considering how tightly the supply chain has been kept. I'm impressed there haven't been any leaks. Would prefer to be surprised on the 27th.

Tim Cook is certainly not the showman / salesman that Steve Jobs was, but I have never expected he would be. Steve's passion translated into showmanship and it was integral to who he was. He made people want things that we never thought we would want, or need.

And if you consider the fact that we're at the point where we're not going to see huge leaps/changes in design or computing power, screen quality, or battery life, every year or maybe even every 5 years, people wouldn't feel like they were disappointed when they didn't get what isn't possible.

I think my disappointment comes from how they don't releases every 6 months, heck how about every year. I'm not talking about earth shattering stuff. I'm talking about simple ram, ssd, processors, and other misc. little things that can be upgraded just because they can. Apple is stuck in this mentality with the computer market where they feel they need to justify an upgrade, and that it has to be a bundled upgrade. And if they drag their feet for a few years, they don't reduce the price to reflect the cost savings they're getting by old tech.

Yes computers are on the decline, but at least maintain them. There's no reason that all the mac's couldn't get simple upgrades every 6-12 months. What irks me is with a span of 2-3 years, they do a single proc spec upgrade and force touch track pad. That's it.

Is there a bingo card for these presentations?

I'm suggesting:
'Amazing'
'Courage'
'Competitor'
'Adoption Rate'
'App Store'
Video with people that have little to do with computers
'Groundbreaking'
'One More Thing'
Spontaneous Applause (applause not at introduction of a person, but during a demo)
Phil Schiller subtle jokes
Apple Executives poking fun at other Apple Executives

..???
