MacRumors has been beating that drum, but it's unheard of. It would be the first time Apple has ever revived a product line. They always keep things going until they can announce a replacement. They have done this with many things. I also noticed it never followed the imac's design lead in 2012. Anyway I think it's gone for good based on all other similar examples and no real rumors to suggest otherwise aside from one about an embedded gpu months ago. The embedded gpu concept is a stupid idea in itself. Displays already have some built in graphics processing. Allowing it to handle any of the lifting work for games or whatever else is a huge mismatch, because displays are updated at a slower rate than gpus. You only see significant display updates 2-3 times per decade.

If Apple does go the embedded GPU route with the next TB Display, nothing stopping them from updating it with new GPUs every 3 years. That would jive with what you said here:

"You only see significant display updates 2-3 times per decade."

Why does the 'It's Happening' gif always get so many thumbs up?!

(By the way I'm not being sarcastic...just curious as it's the same thing every time, it's like hearing the same joke on infinite repeat!)
Too many thumbs up from seizure event.....(click, click, click, click, click). That gif almost gave me one.

I'm just hoping for a 15" rMBP with a decent GPU (GTX 1060 or RX 470M), a beefy quad-core CPU (even if it's Skylake), 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. That's all I want (and desperately need) right now!

The "hello again" on the invite certainly implies a "rebirth" of the Macintosh, so I'm sure we'll be getting a few surprises. Maybe even a new line of computers! Just 8 days to go!

I'm only interested in a new Mini. Hoping there will be once enticing enough for me to upgrade. My 2014 left me disappointed.
Mini for me too. Mine just died, so it's timing is good - makes an easy sell to the wife!

The only bugger is, it's not a given that we'll actually see a new mini...

It'll probably be the most radical redesign of the Mac lineup in a decade, which is why it hasn't leaked.

I will wait for Intel ice lake 10nm processors. Even the kaby lake hd 620 seems like a small improvement:

Maybe by 2018 USB type-c will be more widespread and my mid 2014 15 rmbp will do just fine until then.

It's only the same if you own multiple Macs. If your MacBook is your only computer, then there is a big difference between the rMB and MBA.
- MBA is faster
- MBA has better battery life
- MBA has better keyboard
- MBA has more ports

I would instantly buy an MBA with a retina display.

If these rumors are right and the new MBPs are lighter, imagine if Apple shaves about half a pound off of the 13" MBP. That would put it at around 3 pounds. There's your "MBA with Retina Display"

I'd actually love a 32gb 7G nano. I love the current one, it's great for just music. It's great for what it does. Just with it had double the storage.

So would i. I'd also like a iPod classic with a 256GB SSD for my car. Neither will happen. If you can't stream Apple Music on it, Cook, Ive and Dre will kill it.

They updated the imac to a new display design 4 years ago. The thunderbolt display never followed with that. I said 2-3. Apple would fall under 2 for the most part. You still haven't stated what makes you feel so strongly that they will break with such a long standing pattern. They have never once revived a product. If they put a gpu in it, expect a $1300~ ish price. That thing would never sell. People would look at it and buy an imac.

Because after removing the headphone jack, Apple will remove the SHIFT and CAPS LOCK keys.

Removal of the headphone jack wouldn't surprise me as much.

I'd only put money on one of those options. 15".

Hopefully not ARM based machines!

That's not the worst idea. That would be very courageous. I'd be very curious to see what kind of performance they can get out of ARM chips in a laptop/desktop. But I think Apple would've told large developers and it would've leaked if that was the case.

This is all stipulation. But as crazy and wild as our theories may be – or as grounded and humble as you can imagine – I'm sure you won't disagree that we're so so so excited for this event. :D

Truer words were never spoken! So much uncertainty and hype plus the classic "hello" invite. This is the most excited I've been for an event in a long time!

Apple's keynotes have general been meh for me. Their March 2016 event was surprising (iPhone SE) and costly for me (iPhone SE + iPad Pro 9.7). I just hope that Apple can follow up on it!

This is about the best reason I can come up with and Mark Gurman has an excellent track with great sources:
