New GPU, RAM, and storage options.

Genuinely don't think it'll come until 1st quarter next year - they literally just updated the boxes to Sierra, so unless they're keeping the same boxes and design (maybe they are) I can't see it yet. I suppose it'll go all USB-C/TB3 at some point too.

Removing the Magsafe charging plug is also a mistake, from a consumer point of view. I'm sure it works great for Apple though; "Oh, you tripped over the cord and pulled it off the desk? That will be $2000 please....)

If that is the case. Apple would have never introduced Magsafe. It have to be some reason for this.

The 'hello' tag has been used to mark significant product shifts.

With the iOS chalk-dust wallpaper and the 'hello', we can be sure that Steve is going to get his way over Apple "owning the silicon in order to make really great products”.

ARM Macs for certain.

Yes, and a trackpad for iPad and a macOS/iOS hybrid and a touchscreen MacBook Pro.

Em, no. That will just not happen in the near or mid future.

What is that Apple Logo photo??? A FOREST FIRE???

They are planning to burn down the Mac line up!!!

Actually, if they are bringing out a new monitor, they are updating the MacPro or/and the Mini. Why a monitor without an appropriate computer? All Macs will get spec bumps or something.

My 2011 iMac has been slowly dying for the last six months and making my life a hell in the meantime.
It takes 15 minutes since I power up it until it's ready for use, and then it takes almost 5 minutes to launch an app. I use it for work and it is hell, but I've been stubbornly waiting for six months for an update. I REALLY hope the wait is finally over.

And by the way, I know it's not going to happen just yet but, I'm really looking forward to replacing my really old 2nd generation Apple TV and this would be the perfect time to announce the 5th generation. Not very excited about buying the 4th gen and seeing an update shortly thereafter...

Mine was having issues too (albeit a 2012) I got a Thunderbolt Sata adapter and a nice new SSD and it's pretty darn quick again. Might be something worth considering?

For the first time in ever, I'm afraid of this announcement. I'm afraid this will be the event that stops me from ever buying another Apple computer. I don't want or need a toy, I want/need a high performance portable computer. I don't want to need thinner. I don't want or need quieter. I don't want or need cooler (as in temperature). I don't want or need lighter. Now all of these desires are fine for others and I'm fine for Apple to make computers that fit these other desires, but there are still some professionals that need performance and ports. If Apple abandons me, they will abandon my family because my family depends on me for their support.

Sounds like you need a thick laptop with noisy fans that still gets hot enough to toast a slice of bread. Aren't these the stuff that computer makers used to do decades ago?

It would be great if the "Hello again" also meant that the tower-based Mac Pro was back again. The Mac cannot say "hello again" unless it's for serious professional use. The non-pro market is taken by iOS.

Smoke and Mirrors marketing as usual.

Monumental?

That's what they want the worshippers to believe, and the posts here prove Apples got em convinced... and in control. Just look at the typical "take my money" responses before even having a clue what's coming.

We'll see if this is anything more than a vanity play... laptops in colors. Really?

While something being labeled "monumental" is a matter of perspective and expectations, it is obvious that "laptops in colors" is cynical (and even a bit malicious) downplaying of what is widely expected to happen. I think that all rumors, leaks and predictions clearly show that Skylake MacBook Pros with new GPUs are coming, alongside a completely new design with some quite big changes - like the OLED bar, new USB ports, new keyboard, etc. Also, possibly an MacBook Air update, update for iMac (new GPU) and even, who knows, an update for Mac Pro.

Of course, whatever they announce, there will instantly be 5 topics on Macrumors with people claiming Apple has lost its way, that new products are over-simplified, underpowered and full of marketing bs #firetimcook, and everyone who disagrees is a worshiping Apple sheep.

Hope they drop iMac out of the line. Instead, they could introduce a 27'' inch display that connects instantly to your MB or MBP via the thunderbold 3/USB-C cable and you are good to go. Why spend money for a laptop and a desktop machine when you can have the best of both worlds in one device?
Good God no - that may work for you, but definitely not for me!

Why would you hope for something that would make it a slower computer than the one they're currently selling?

Not necessarily slower, we don't know what Apple has been cooking up. The A10 is a pretty powerful processor already even when it's tied to an iPhone.

Scale that up to laptop and desktop levels of available power however, as opposed to an iPhone battery. Along with far better thermal control, including the addition of fans and a heat sink. They could probably do a seriously powerful variation of their A series processors once they've been released from the shackles of an iPhone or iPad case.

I'd be stunned if they made this move now. But I do think that it's a very real possibility for them in the future. It would give Apple complete control over their product roadmap without having to rely on Intel (or AMD I suppose could be a possibility) bringing out new CPU's. I don't doubt for a minute that there's already a version of macOS running on completely Apple hardware, tucked away in one of their secret labs right now.

How is Touch ID a gimmick? Looks how it's changed how we use our phones.

It hasn't changed how I use my phone, but it is definitely convenient not to enter the PIN every time you need to use it. Fingerprint sensors came to some laptops over five years ago and it has not been a hit as far as I can see.

If done right, i.e in the track pad or on the mouse, and it selects user account based on your finger print, it may have some value.

I agree about not wishing thinner machines, but I disagree about noise: I seriously prefer quiet machines, and this doesn't imply lower performance: I built a PC box last August with a Pascal Titan X and a 4GHz i7, and I managed to keep it at almost Mac-quiet levels. It would be quieter if it was a Mac, and I'd prefer to buy a Pascal Titan X from Apple directly, but Apple was too clueless these months and my only choice for getting my project done was a PC box.

It's somewhat puzzling: Ten years ago, I wished to have a Mac Pro but didn't have the money. Now I got a project that justified such a purchase, and got the money, but Apple didn't have the box, so the money went to a local PC store. It's hard to find words at how clueless is Apple these days.

It should actually be, "Hello again and again".

All new iMacs by the month's end.

Don´t be so dramatic. Laptops can be all of the above and still show enough performance. All Apple´s laptops have been slower or less performant than top of the line competitor products. Why didn´t you jump ship sooner?

I also wonder if this is when Apple are going to drop their Amazon Echo competitor.

Let's see, black background, colourful logo.

Maybe the show opens with a dark stage, then on the giant screen the Siri waves pop up and we're greeted by, "Hello, again. How can I help you today?"

Ok, far fetched maybe, but so long as we're throwing around wild speculation might as well throw that on the pile too :D

Well, in my opinion (of course), Apple isn't the best at reasonable things; like this effin' f*** up

magic_mouse_2_charging.jpg

And not to mention that the you can't listen to music while charging your phone unless you have Bluetooth headphones, because Apple didn't implement wireless charging into the phone - yet they took away the headphone jack (!)

Dear Apple,

please don't remove the headphone jack from the upcoming computers.

(I can't even believe what I'm asking of them!)

The reason is called $$$ – wouldn't it be nice if you had to replace your computer when you trip over the cable? Even if it happens only to 1% of us, it's still some nice $$$.

I believe it's an Indian holiday. Time to celebrate!

Apple could shock the community and make a return to the PPC architecture.

12 and 24 core Power9 PowerMacs.
ARM. Macbook: 1xA11. Macbook Pro: 2xA11. Mac Pro: 12xA11.

To me this invite looks strange. Not professional as usual. Maybe it doesn't even come from Apple.

I think it looks the same as other Apple invites, it has the Apple logo, a tagline "Hello Again" and it has colour in the background of the Apple logo while the background itself is black.
