All those applications are written for x86 & x86-64. It will take years to port them to a new arch.
I don't think you've given this any real thought. The transition form powerpc to x86 was easy and fast because x86 was already in use and most of the apps were also available on x86 based pcs. But there isn't any "secret apple cpu" based computer available at large for people to develop on.

I guess we'll see. :)

I am really looking forward to this event even so I cannot imagine Apple introduces anything that I might get interested. I will get interested once they release either a 12"-14" laptop with a quad core CPU, I am talking about Geekbench scores of 12000+ or an iMac with a 6-core CPU. In addition those ridiculous cost for the SSD must stop. The extra cost for the 1TB SSD are a rip-off

The SSD prices Apple charge are high, but not as ridiculous as you're making out: There's a huge performance difference between the iMac ones and an off the shelf SATA SSD (3 to 4 times faster), so you're not comparing like for like

If they lose the headphone jack on the MBP then so be it, just don't take away the MagSafe charger, even if it means the cable splits into two.

Not only that, but he deliberately compared to one of the worst (read: cheapest) 1TB SSDs. Change it to a 1TB 850 EVO and the price shoots up by $100.

This is exactly my problem with the current rMBP line and basically all of Apple's computers. They close everything, even soldering the RAM so you can't upgrade them manually saving a whole bunch of money. My current Unibody 2008 MacBook is still running like a charm since I upgraded the RAM from the original 4GB to my current 8GB (max the machine will accept), I could also swap out the HDD with an SSD or even remove the SuperDrive all together and have an SSD in addition to the HDD. I can also remove my battery, which after 8 years of use has swollen so I need to remove it to use the trackpad properly. I hope some time in the near future Apple will backpedal or at least upgrade the 2012 non-retina MacBook Pro to satisfy the market that looks for a user-upgradable computer.

They are so obsessed about thinness, it's ridiculous. I don't really understand why they made the iMac so thin, I would much rather take a thicker iMac and be able to open it up and replace things myself.

I think Apple blew it with its current Mac lineup, I mean they had a great opportunity to have a computer for every section of the market. You would have the MacBook Air for people that need a light and thin laptop to carry around all over the place, take it to college or to work meetings. Then you would have the MacBook which would cover the people that don't need a whole lot of power but still need more power than the Air provides. Then you would have the MacBook Pro for people that need a real powerful machine and have the need to upgrade it after a few years to keep doing their job. Hell, if they wanted to they could add a MacBook Air Pro (or whatever) and have a powerful machine but much thinner than the MacBook Pro, even do the same thing with the iMac lineup adding an iMac Air and making it thin as hell while keeping the iMac powerful and upgradable.

If that is the case. Apple would have never introduced Magsafe. It have to be some reason for this.

Most likely because USB-C is such a small & easy to plug/unplug cable (quite similar to lighting), that it doesn't require a magnetic solution.
Think if today you had your iPhone plugged into your MacBook to charge & accidentally picked something up that was wrapped around the cable- it would likely come unplugged from the MacBook, not send the MacBook flying across the room.

I guess we'll see. :)
I think Apple will eventually put ARM based chips inside Macs, but it won't be as a replacement for x86. It will be in addition to, and I think we are a few years out. I see future custom Apple designed SOCs using AMD's zen logic design with Radeon graphics combined in "fusion" with Apple's own x86 chips. Old Apps will launch on the x86 cores, new Apps will have the ability to run on either ARM or x86 depending on the need, and the OS/Apple apps the same. You'll have the performance of a high end x86 when needed with the efficiency Apple's ARM chips when desired. Apps would be built from XTools as either ARM/x86/hybrid etc.

That is something only Apple could really pull off well because they can control the hardware, OS and development tools.

That really depends on the angle at which the cable is being pulled. You could pull a 27-inch iMac off a desk with a lightning connector if you pulled it at the right angle.

Wow, you clearly don't understand much about SSD/SATA/PCIE etc. . Your are comparing one of the worst SATA based SSDs on the market, to a top of the line PCIEx4 SSD. They are not even in the same ball park technology wise.

Even the 850 EVO in an M.2 form factor still uses the SATA interface. A valid comparison is to a PCIE SSD like this.

Hello again…

Does it reference Siri? So perhaps the rumoured 'Magic Toolbar' works in conjunction with Siri?

They're not cheap I'll grant you that. But when you compare as close to like for like as you get here in the U.K., Apple are charging £80 (or less depending on where you shop), more than you can buy the SSD separately. That's not too bad of an Apple tax really.

Sure it's not as cheap as buying it yourself and fitting it. But if it's for, say an iMac, I'd gladly pay them the £80 extra to fit it for me and save myself the hassle.

You know, I have stopped caring. I love Apple, but I hate what it has become.
Apple used to be the best system available.

With macOS Sierra, the OS has become as buggy as Windows - and please, Windows was always worse than OS X, there's no doubt about that.
With iTunes bloated interface, we have an Office-style that lacks clarity and performance.
With iOS we have a system that used to be clear und logical but becomes increasingly unfocused and overly confusing and resembles more Zune.

Apple, just to remind you: It used to be about sexy products, power machines for pro-users, software with claritiy and effiiency in mind.

Right now Apple's on the path just as Microsoft. Maybe it has to do with size. Size matters - in this case, it's bad.

I used to long for Apple products, my ageing MacPro (late 2013) has reached its limits due to macOS Sierra. But I am so angry that Sierra has basically attacked my workflow and my software and my user experience, that - alongside the terrible long wait and the lack of commitment from Apple's side about the Macs that I just stopped caring.

And you know what? As an Apple fanboy, I am just disappointed to see the child (Apple) grow up the wrong way.

It could have been different, at least that's what I hoped for.

I love Apple, I hate what it has become.

I am actually hoping that the new iMac will look more like this:

Untitled-2.jpg

There isn't really so much more they can change, design-wise.

How can you stand that glossy screen?
The new "ant-glare" gloss style they have been using since the version before 5K came out has effectively eliminated most glare. My ATD doubles as a mirror, but on my late 2013 imac I barely notice.

Actually that move was asinine. Current BT headphones produce an inferior experience as compared to wired headphones, and now those of us who want to use our existing headphones have to use (and not lose) a dongle.

Not really true anymore. Some of the biggest names in audiophile level headphones are making BT models now.

I remember Apple reps bringing by a prototype Macintosh II. The 13" monitor case had not even been finalized. It was $10K!

It had upgradable RAM and storage.

There is a need my friend.
Years ago I may have bought the brand new one but I've learned my lesson.

Back in 2008, I bought every Mac that was out that year except for the Mac Mini. I realized how insane that was and sold everything including the Mac Pro. Sold the Mac Pro for just enough to buy the 2009 15" MBP and that was my only computer for a few years.

I also have a Surface Pro 3. Also felt there was no need to buy a 4 or a Surface Book. I've gone back to the idea that a computer never needs to be replaced yearly. Use it till it quits.

New Mac mini in one week? Or they will annonuce, that the destop products (except iMac) is/will be EOLed.

Don´t be so dramatic. Laptops can be all of the above and still show enough performance. All Apple´s laptops have been slower or less performant than top of the line competitor products. Why didn´t you jump ship sooner?

Because my current laptop was from the last of the Mac portables that had workstation performance and I keep hoping that I won't be abandoned. I have never owned a PC and it will be a pain. All of the people I work with converted years ago and until the last couple of years my laptop worked so much better than theirs that it was the obvious choice. The reality is that I don't need a laptop that has the performance of an iPad Pro. I need a real computer and up until about 2011 Apple made real portable computers.

And the biggest reason is that Apple's laptops don't have to have sub-par performance. Apple just chooses that functionality so they can say thin, light and low temperature.

How is Windows buggy?

If Apple was on the same path as Microsoft wouldn't they be releasing timely updates?

Why do you love a corporation?

If this new MBP doesn't have a traditional USB port like the rumors have stated I'm out. I also will consider not buying it if there isn't an SD card slot. I do so much with video and photos the SD card slot is crucial.

In my day job I've been deploying the new HP EliteBooks to our end users and I may make the shift to that if the new MBP doesn't cut it.

Asking questions helps to understand a thing.
However, I doubt it will help here. :)
You make your point. I've made mine.

I remember when Apple mandated that Firewire was the future and all the fanboys duly posted about how bad USB was. Now Apple goes for USB and all the fanboys act like that's what they said all along.
It could be different fanboys with different opinions.
