Show us courage and remove the 3.5mm audio plug from all Macs.

USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack adapter incoming.

Could we see a lightening port on Mac's instead? Having the option to charge from lightening or usb-c would be useful, especially if they updated the MacBook 12" with lightening to replace 3.5mm

Seems strange to have one range of products with one type of headphone connection and other with something else.

What is that Apple Logo photo??? A FOREST FIRE???

They are planning to burn down the Mac line up!!!

That was what I was thinking. An event to show Apple's future of the Mac, on fire.

Obviously I don't think that would happen, but under TC, who knows?

Wow. Can't remember last time I bought an absolutely new fresh Mac.

My latest fresh Mac was the Late 2012 iMac, 27" with the upgraded processor, 1TB Fusion Drive and an upgraded video card. It was the first of the thin designs that are sold today. It was the third most expensive Mac that I purchased new.

The Mac event was in late October I think, just like this one.

Hope they drop iMac out of the line. Instead, they could introduce a 27'' inch display that connects instantly to your MB or MBP via the thunderbold 3/USB-C cable and you are good to go. Why spend money for a laptop and a desktop machine when you can have the best of both worlds in one device? The cinema display could be equipped with integrated desktop class GPU so when you come back home from work you just plug the cable and have all the graphic power you need for gaming, video editing, etc. on a big ass retina display. The thunderbolt 3 offers enough bandwidth to support both the display and the external GPU within.

They may also drop Macbook Air out the line. You already have super portable, super thin MacBook for casual working, internet, photos, movies. If they update the current MacBook with more powerful CPU you already have a MacBook Air but thinner, lighter, with better display, thin bezel, etc. The MacBook Air was cool some years ago when the ultrabooks where rare. Now, it is standard for every new laptop.

Additionally, the Retina Macbook Pro would become just the MacBook Pro which would be the as in the old time for the Pro users. Drop the "Retina" tagline, because everything now is Retina, even the basic MacBook.

How I see the Mac lineup:

MacBook 12inch
MacBook Pro 13inch
MacBook Pro 15inch
MacMini
MacPro
Cinema Display with integrated GPU compatible with all of the above.

End of story.

You might be onto something here..

Even the 850 EVO in an M.2 form factor still uses the SATA interface. A valid comparison is to a PCIE SSD like this.

The thing too is doesn't Apple use a slightly different connector than the m.2? I think I heard that somewhere, but I could be wrong. I saw that you can get Mac compatible drives at www.macsales.com, with or without a USB 3.0 external case for your old drive. Kinda wonder what the speed difference would be if it was straight Thunderbolt instead.

Yes, the M.2 standard was developed after Apple started their own custom SSD blades. M.2 includes both SATA and PCIe 3.0x4 interfaces, so an M.2 card could be either SATA or PCIE. Apple doesn't support SATA on their blades. Now that M.2 is a standard Apple may transition to using it and just not support the SATA interface so you could use any M.2 PCIe SSD (I'm not sure if that will actually happen though).

Thunderbolt doesn't make any sense to use internally, because it is essentially a packaged up PCI Express for an external interface. Essentially the data flow would be PCIE -> TB -> PCIE -> SSD, why would you do that when you can just go PCIE -> SSD ?

Ok here is the deal. Its called "hello again" which means something big. But all we have seen is the updated macbook pro leaks. they have new features but hardly "hello again" quality. What if the reason we haven't seen much of a leak is because hello again means they are bringing back something from the past. And what if its the last gen Mac Pro case. Finally giving professionals what they wanted all a long. An updated beast that is easy to update and you can add and remove ram/hard drives etc like before. I would be so happy.

Seriously??? How the heck am I supposed to hook this up to a projector at work or an event?

I like this idea, but I would rather have an iMac G4. IMO, it is still the most uniquely and beautifully designed Mac ever.

Uh, dongle? I have a 2012 MBP with Thunderbolt/DisplayPort and guess how I do that? The addition of HDMI to later MBPs was a really good idea, but rumors indicate that's gone, so go back to dongles you will.

Our office is equipped with Mac and PCs from multiple generations so we keep cables with HDMI and DP to HDMI adapters in all meeting rooms. Next we'll need USB-C to HDMI...

BA HA HA HA - you can plug in NOTHING, EVER! You will have to carry an adapter for everything! (No, seriously, you will.) Except for headphones. You can use those still. Which is a good thing, because it shows the real purpose of this computer is to replace the iPhone 7 in listening to music. :)

From what I gather, there is not going to be really much of a performance difference at all, with the new Macs, so with that in mind, and the fact they will be removing the SD card slot, I'm going to be using the update to get the current model and save a bunch of money.

That's kinda my thinking too. That said, once the new ones are out (assuming they're released right after the event) where are some good places to get new 'last year' models?

Kinda looks Halloween-ish to me. Surely there's more significance than that, but this event is close to the 31st. Trick or treat?

No, that line-up would make too much sense and doesn't offer Apple Courage™
Plus, there isn't enough margin for Apple to bother with selling their own displays.

Expect only Macs w/ integrated screens to get refreshes moving forward:

MacBook
MacBook Pro
iMac
iMac Pro

Perhaps this has already been asked and answered but I'm not wading through 700+ comments to find it, so ... in general, when Apple has had new Mac announcement events in the past, how long after the announcement were they available for purchase? Same day? Next day? A week?
