Apple Invites Media to 'Notebook' Event October 14th

Who cares about Notebooks. Where the new Mini?
Where's the revolutionary new product?
Yet another rehash, redesign, updated "look" to existing notebooks. Yawn

SO WHAT.

We need something really different.
  • Multi-touch tablet PC.
  • Device sized between iPhone and laptop.
  • AppleTV/Mini replacement with Blu-Ray, HD record, competitive pricing.
 
Wow its about time they announced this. I can't wait until they announce the new notebooks. I just hope that they won't be so darn sexy that I will have to sell my MacBook pro. I bet they make them look sexy as hell.

I had decided that i will not write a single post in the forum until the Oct 14th event is announced... here it is!!! wooooooohooooooooo I freakin can't wait until Tuesday... i am buying a MacBook Pro... so long PC :D:D:D:apple::apple::apple:

Based on the Apple logo that we see on the event invitation image, could someone measure the form factor of the notebook that we see on the image?

The logo seems to be very large compared to the overal lid size... Maybe a subnotebook? a 10" ~ 11" US$ 800,00 subnotebook?

I measured the Apple logo on a MB and MBP here at the office. 47mm from lowest part of the apple to the tip of the leaf on both.

Apply that scale to the photo it puts the case at 13.07" wide and 8.7" tall.

Compare that to the current MB and MBP specs:

12.78 inches (32.5 cm)
Depth:
8.92 inches (22.7 cm)

MBP
Width:
14.1 inches (35.7 cm)
Depth:
9.6 inches (24.3 cm)

WHAT ??? If you are not waiting for a new notebook just ignore this post. There are a lot of us who are very very happy, so don't criticize please ;)
 
I just hope Apple don't fall flat on Mac updates like they've done recently...

Musts (for me - at the high end...)
- Keep the matte display option, very important that one...
- Blu-ray. Come on Apple... lol
- Up to 8GB RAM would be nice.
- SSD bto.
- Advanced trackpad
- HDMI port
- 9700M GTS - But I feel Apple will end up with a 9600M GT

Would like
- Mobile quad-core would be a great suprise, an Apple first given their 'special' ties with Intel. But I won't be holding out for it. You never know...
- Biometric (finger print) scanner would be also nice, but it's in another of those "Apple stubbonly won't do" pots...

It's anyone's guess. Sometimes Apple announces and makes available the same day, sometimes Apple announces and makes it available weeks or months later.

With the holiday season approaching, I think it would be safe to assume that if the new laptops are not available on the 14th, they will be shortly thereafter.

The mini and the macbook have always shared an internal design. If they can make an $800 MB then they cam make a $500 Mini. After all the Mini is just a MB with no LCD screen, no battery, no touch screen and no keyboard.

This would be the best time for a price drop on MacBooks, considering the state of the economy, people may love apple but no longer be able to afford $1150 for an entry level MacBook. Also if its true that they are dropping to price to around $800 then I'm just hoping Apple would see that they have to get rid of the current Mini. A popular notebook priced just above their unpopular net-top would canabalize the sales of the Mini. I'd like to see it revised to something like Shuttle or Fit-PC, where its still small and stylish but with improved upgradability, almost a mini-tower.
 
Woot! I absolutely love the glowing apple logo! I'm surprised at an event, makes me wonder what else they will be showing off besides new computers. iWork '09? Snow Leopard? Bring it Apple! My PC is not gonna survive for very much longer!!!:apple:

My advice is.. for a screen less than or equal to 17", stay with native 1680x1050 resolution. Because I have 17" Hi-res (1920x1200), and the text is too tiny!

That's my experience.. YMWV

And for this invitation only event, the center "spotlight" would be aluminum+multitouch MacBook, and reduce price products.
 
Yea !

I have been without a laptop since August. I sold my Macbook 1st gen on Craigslist for $700. It has been a long 2 months.

I hope the new ones have Blu Ray in them.

But i hope there will be a small update for the mba. I wanted to buy it on the 15th, when my salary finally arrives :cool:
But IF the new Mb's are nice i will go for one of these :D

I was hoping for a more generic new product teaser. Not them saying its ONLY a notebook update.
