Apple Invites Media to 'Notebook' Event October 14th

Anyone care to guess whether will finally slay the ancient beast that is combo drive??

Superdrive needs to be standard across the board. period.

Lit from the outside?

The logo is not lit by the spotlight beam... you can clearly see it is illuminating itself, which is why it looks so much brighter than the aluminium around it...
They would never drop the backlit logo. That is THE thing that makes Macs stand out in airports etc.

I was in the market for a Mac Notebook, but my financial situation has greatly changed in the last few months, so now I can only hope to get a Mac Notebook in the next couple of years.:(

[reply to "Literally just yesterday bought a new 15" MBP 2.4 GHZ. Am I able to return it even if I have to pay a restocking fee? Anyone know?"] Yes, you can return it for a fee...

Usually a 15 day window for returns (30 days for some products/sellers).

WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP WHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP! :D My first Mac! :apple:

Sweet. That's almost one and a half year of waiting for me (since may 2007) possibly coming to an end.

Four things I hope for:
  • Better displays across the board (much better viewing angles and less wash-outs on the MB, no yellowings or other issues on the MBP). LEDs on the MB.
  • A better display hinge, so that you actually can tilt the display backwards without it hitting the back of the laptop, or the bottom of the lid resting on the underlying surface (in my opinion that's a major design flaw).
  • SuperDrive for all!
  • Better quality control!

If I were to push my luck, I would also like for both models to have the MBP-style keyboard. :)

To sum up: I really hope that Apple has put more work into quality on both models, rather than pure performance. I'd rather have a MB with a low-end C2D, featuring a much better display, case and a more thought-out design overall, than a new case accompanied by a speed bump.

Absolutely wonderful.
Will spend the money on one of these new notebook asap. It's been really hard, but I'm super-glad I waited now (since nov. 2007 ).

Fast forward to the 14th please.

I don't think you should NEVER mention that it's because of the new model ...

Just say that you lost your job

Remember when the first iPod classic came out? Well, 15 days before they were released I bought the 80GB Ipod before it. How annoyed I was that I was unable to return it. I rang my local Apple Retail and spoke to them about it and they said - don't worry. Bring it in and we will swap it for you.

Unbelievable, but then it occurred to me that they may have thought it was still unopened. But I took it down anyways. They took a look at it, said that they would exchange it even though it was out of the 14 day window!

They asked me which iPod classic I wanted so I though I would go for the maximum storage. I asked for the 160GB version in black. He brings one over and asks me for the card I paid for the original, I thought it was fair enough to pay a restocking fee and/or the difference in price for the new model. Instead, they REFUNDED me about a tenner as the 160GB classic was cheaper than the older 80GB model!!!

Since then, I was a convert. I am really looking forward to purchasing a Mac book Pro.

I hope they're capable of up to 8GB of RAM. It would be pretty bad that other notebook vendors have stepped up with 8GB models already and Apple remains at 4. Can't see it happening, but who knows?

come to think of it that would be another way to discern between the MB and the MBP. I personally don't need 8GB so I'd be more than happy with 4 (I'm currently at 768 on my 12" PB)

Well, it depends on where you bought it from. If you went through apple you may be in luck. If you purchase an ipod/computer within 14 days of when the upgrades hit they will exchange your product for the new one if it is in acceptable condition. Campus Stores do not follow this procedure....
