Remember when the first iPod classic came out? Well, 15 days before they were released I bought the 80GB Ipod before it. How annoyed I was that I was unable to return it. I rang my local Apple Retail and spoke to them about it and they said - don't worry. Bring it in and we will swap it for you.

Unbelievable, but then it occurred to me that they may have thought it was still unopened. But I took it down anyways. They took a look at it, said that they would exchange it even though it was out of the 14 day window!

They asked me which iPod classic I wanted so I though I would go for the maximum storage. I asked for the 160GB version in black. He brings one over and asks me for the card I paid for the original, I thought it was fair enough to pay a restocking fee and/or the difference in price for the new model. Instead, they REFUNDED me about a tenner as the 160GB classic was cheaper than the older 80GB model!!!

Since then, I was a convert. I am really looking forward to purchasing a Mac book Pro.

Good to know, so no problem for all those who bought their macbooks 2 weeks prior to the event ??

Sweet. That's almost one and a half year of waiting for me (since may 2007) possibly coming to an end.

Four things I hope for:
  • Better displays across the board (much better viewing angles and less wash-outs on the MB, no yellowings or other issues on the MBP). LEDs on the MB.
  • A better display hinge, so that you actually can tilt the display backwards without it hitting the back of the laptop, or the bottom of the lid resting on the underlying surface (in my opinion that's a major design flaw).
  • SuperDrive for all!
  • Better quality control!

If I were to push my luck, I would also like for both models to have the MBP-style keyboard. :)

So you... want an MBP in a MB shell for MB prices? You aren't going to see a top-of-the-line LCD in a Macbook unless they drop the Pro line.

OMG wouldn't it be awsome if they made black avalible for any other than just high end thats the only reason why i want high end i love the black !! :apple::apple::apple::apple:

I hope so, but I am in UK and I may have been lucky to have a store manager in a good mood. I wouldn't say it would always happen, but it certainly made me think about switching to Apple in the future. Just goes to show that a consumer will return if they are treated well.

Just a few things about the UK Back to School offer that people might be interested in.

First of all, you have 30 days (counted from ship date until the date on the post mark of the submitted rebate claim) to submit a rebate from when you buy the product. In the case of an online order, this date is when it ships.

So, that sounds bad, right, if they do delay the release.

Maybe, but there's another way around it.

Apple FAQ said:
I purchased a product that will not ship until after the promotion. Do I still qualify for the rebate?
In the event that a qualifying product is ordered during the promotion dates and shipped after the end of the promotion, Apple offers an additional fifteen (15) day grace period for postmark of the claim, provided that you submit your Order Confirmation email stating that you placed the order during the promotion period.

So essentially you have that 30 day period of when the order is shipped, plus an extra 15 if the order is shipped after the promotion, but you order within the promotion dates.

Don't have anything useful to add just my wishes for this long due MBP update:

1) Matte screen option
2) Glowing logo
3) Same connectivity of my Powerbook G4 : USB,FW 400/800, Express Card
4) Don't care about black keyboard, looks OK to me
5) Don't care about miniDVI but standard DVI would be better
6) 8GB Ram support
7) Better battery life
8) Something unexpected and exciting :)

If they make the MBPs lighter I would have to consider one over a MB.

if they make it 4.5 LB and a smaller becel then a 15 inch MBP would be great. if it stays same size i'd rather go with a 13 inch MB (assuming that is powerful enough and light enough. i guess the merge the lines anyway.

Well, it depends on where you bought it from. If you went through apple you may be in luck. If you purchase an ipod/computer within 14 days of when the upgrades hit they will exchange your product for the new one if it is in acceptable condition. Campus Stores do not follow this procedure....

Everyone loves to screw a student.

Anyone?

Can someone please clear up what is going on?
I've been reading about the possible Oct 14th date and now wondering is it now confirmed? The reason I care besides the general excitement is that about a month ago I ordered a macbook because I needed it for school and after a few problems and slow turnaround time after an exchange I just got a working one in yesterday.
This gives me 14 days to exchange it few a new one given they are released within that time frame of 14 days.

So again is it confirmed new macbooks are for sure going be releaed by October 14th? I'm really hoping so...
Thanks

This is great freakin news.
I've been waiting forever to get a new mac for college and this is going to be amazing. I can't wait for the event.

I still ctrl-click. I hate clicking by tapping on my mousepad, so I turn it off. I use the button to click.

 I thought it was two fingers on the trackpad and click the button once?

Or is it hold down the button and then two fingers on the trackpad?

An invitation to an event about notebooks to be held on October 14 has been sent to the media. How much more confirmation do you need?

I don't really Care but...

i don't care much about the new ones unless they are way better than the old ones but do you guys think that it would be smart to buy a refurb. macbook when the new ones come out because the prices will drop on the prev. gen wont they... or should i just but the new ones when they come out and spend the extra money

thank you lordy. i woke up this morning, and sat in my bed. picked up my iphone. went online to engadget. first thing i see is that apple decided to announce a media event. finally. for the 14th. i have been waiting for 3 years for this update, i am currently still using my powerbook G3. drinks on me to everyone who has been waiting.

I prefer carrier pigeon or stork as a reliable source for booze delivery. :D

You can use the button to click but do it with 2 fingers on the trackpad - no need to use a second hand to touch the Ctrl key. Just take an extra finger on the hand that's on the trackpad, touching the pad with both and then click the button. voila....

I hate clicking with the trackpad, too. But the 2 finger solution is the easiest way for me.

I've got a 1-year old White Macbook that's being handed down to my daughter in Uni and get myself a new MBP (or at least one with a dedicated GPU). I push this Macbook just a bit harder and need the extra power. Cannot wait!!!

Well theres been rumors of a (slight) price reduction. So either way I'd wait for the 14th then decide.
