i don't care much about the new ones unless they are way better than the old ones but do you guys think that it would be smart to buy a refurb. macbook when the new ones come out because the prices will drop on the prev. gen wont they... or should i just but the new ones when they come out and spend the extra money
:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

It honestly depends on which one you'd rather have and how awesome you think the new ones are. If I don't like them, I might go for a cheaper one.

1) Matte screen option
2) Glowing logo
3) Same connectivity of my Powerbook G4 : USB,FW 400/800, Express Card
4) Don't care about black keyboard, looks OK to me
5) Don't care about miniDVI but standard DVI would be better
...
8) Something unexpected and exciting :)

so in short:
you want everything to stay the same but something totally new ;-).

I still ctrl-click. I hate clicking by tapping on my mousepad, so I turn it off. I use the button to click.

he wasn't talking about pad-cklicking.
with the new multi-touch trackpad, you can ctrl-click if you rest two fingers on the pad and click (on the button). it's pretty intuitive actually and there's no need for a second button.

It all depends on how much you want to spend, of course. If the old ones are sufficient for your needs, then there is no reason to pay a premium for the latest and greatest. On the other hand, if you're making a purchase that you want to last for five years or so, then you might want to give yourself as much growing room as possible.

Can someone please clear up what is going on?
I've been reading about the possible Oct 14th date and now wondering is it now confirmed? The reason I care besides the general excitement is that about a month ago I ordered a macbook because I needed it for school and after a few problems and slow turnaround time after an exchange I just got a working one in yesterday.
This gives me 14 days to exchange it few a new one given they are released within that time frame of 14 days.

So again is it confirmed new macbooks are for sure going be releaed by October 14th? I'm really hoping so...
Thanks

Nothing is sure about the release but the event on oct. 14th. Though a lot of rumors talked about seeing the new notebooks beeing prepared to ship to stores (this was tuesday) ... I'd say chances are high, and I'm sure that Jobs loves to say that they are "available today" ...

An invitation to an event about notebooks to be held on October 14 has been sent to the media. How much more confirmation do you need?
I guess none...but I wasn't sure what is still considered a rumor. I guess I'm good to use this macbook for five days and then send it back in to get whatever comes out.

Thanks for clearing that up. that actually sounds MUCH better than having to move your thumb (im currently having wrist problems). Also eliminates the need for leftys with a windowns machine having to go into the settings and swap the two buttons (which id bet the majority of computer users dont know how to do anyway :p)

Hope they offer different colour anodising on the macbook

...................................
Colours would be amazing. Am I the only one that wants a dark grey like the new nanos?

Nope, I want a green one. :D

It's called DIY

CansofSprayPaintbyshortncute-main_Full.jpg

well, orange for shock effect or Product Red [TM]! like my nano!

although i don't think they produce 8 different colors. too much logistics involved, stores running out of a certain color and so.

The case wont do diddelido, what´s expected to be inside this time?

Nothing is even near certain. We could see a pathetic bump, we could see a big improvement in things like battery life and possibly the rumored Nvdia chipsets. All we know for certain is that we have to wait 5 days to find out.

We know for sure that Apple is going to be talking about notebooks on Oct 14th. What they are going to say, is anybody's guess at this point ... (and as this is a rumours site, everybody is going to make a guess.

They could be announcing that they are getting out of the notebook business to concentrate all their efforts on the Mini; that they are dropping the price on all their notebooks by 50%; that they have perfected cold fusion, and that in future your notebook will need to be topped up with a banana peel every 30 days, but will have unlimited power; that they have decided to stop using aluminium, and will now make all outside components out of clay. You can choose any colour you want, as long as its red.

You are free to make your conclusions, and share them too...

But, regardless of what you read, nobody really knows what will be talked about on the 14th. Outside of Apple HQ of course.

Thats the fun of a rumours site, eh!?:)

Yippeeeee!

At long last, waited soooo loooongggg for this as I'm due to replace my faithful G4 1.67mhz 17" as need for HD playback in 720p or higher!

Bring it on..... :p

As long as...

As long as I can play America's Army, Age Of Empires, Crysis and BF on a new MacBook Pro...I don't care about the rest. I love Mac and I love playing games on it (in case you say "macs aren't for games."

Some want thin and light notebooks, but they have heat and cooling issues.

Pro notebooks should stay pro. If you want something "in the air" type thing go for the macbooks or the air.

WOOOOO!!!
The free printer promo ends the 15th so maybe I can get that too!!!
WOOOO!!!
I have been waiting over a year for this.. thats how long they have been rumored for!
My first computer purchase ever!!! (parents have bought macs for the past 17 years of my life.. now I get to spend my grad money!!!)

well for the MB it's near certain:

alu casing
montevina
4500 GPU or better
LED backlight
4 GB ram possible
2.53 GHz Penryn in top end model
no blue ray and combodrive:D

anyway: if it comes in matte screen and with FW800 i'm happy already there.
the question is really is the new MBP small enough to convince me to buy it over the MB. but performance wise the MB should do it easily unless they leave firewire out.

Maybe I missed it but were there any accessory-related notes that could have revealed more about the shape of these new MacBooks a la the Griffin iPhone 3G mold photos? I know the accessory market for a laptop is a lot smaller than it is for the iPhone but given the existence of the colored shells like this http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR937ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA2Ng&mco=MTQ3NjI4MQ it leads me to think that the accessory makers like Speck would have had prior notice of the design. It just seems that I haven't seen a thing mentioned about this yet, let alone any leaked photos like we saw with the iPhone or the new Nano.

So you... want an MBP in a MB shell for MB prices? You aren't going to see a top-of-the-line LCD in a Macbook unless they drop the Pro line.

Not necessarily at MB prices. However, as I mentioned in my post, I wouldn't mind to see Apple touching the lower end of the C2D line, and putting the money where it's really needed: quality (in which the MB was god awful, really). At the least, providing more BTO options, like Zepto for instance.

The MBP is too large and expensive, and contains a lot of things that I won't need (dedicated GPU, even more expensive CPUs) to push that cost up. Additionally, I live in Europe, where Apple still thinks that 1 dollar is 10 SEK, when in fact it is 7 SEK (of course you have to add the actual tax, plus the fictional "Europe tax" to that, but it still doesn't come close ), so price is really of concern.

As to when it'll be out... it's been years since Steve stood up on one of those keynotes and said "They're out Today". Maybe 2-3 years ago? I'm sure it won't be long though, average - ignoring the tedious wait for iPhone 2.0 s/w - seems to be a couple of weeks.

When they updated the iMacs in August of 07 they were released the same day as the announcement. There is no reason why the Macbooks should be the same.

Steve "mentioned" that at the last iPod keynote. Don't think we're going to see any more accessories ( sleeves and holders) come out before the actual product from now on.;)

I know. I still have my (beloved) G4 1.33mhz...
Geez, these are gonna be double-pleasure for me!
2x HD space, 2x the speed, 2x the processor(s), 2x more fun! :)

Two things:

1: it seems to me that as far as accessories for laptops go, apple is pretty much driving the market. There are TONS of protectors and cases for macbooks, and aside from bags/covers i really havnt seen anything for other laptops (dells, hp's, etc)

2: I think apple definatly got pissed after the leaks from case makers pretty much stole any excitement they could have gotten from the new ipods, so they are making sure (with a team of lawyers no doubt) that the same thing doesnt happen this go around.

hey guys have a look at this...
is that a displayport with an adapter to VGA
No, because an adapter isn't possible; DisplayPort has no way to carry an analog signal. It would require a full-blown D->A conversion.
