From my understanding he is alright with OSX but hates the price of apple hardware.

He might be part of the hackintosh crowd

Anyway, anyone care to take a guess if superdrive will finally be standard across the board. If apple still puts the combo drive on the entry level ANYTHING its completely inexcuseable

I don't think it's that ridiculous. I know for a fact that my mom would NEVER attempt to burn a DVD. A CD, maybe, but you can do that with combo. Why pay for a feature you'll never use? And it's only on the cheapest option notebook for those who need nothing more.

i mean the current gen mbp and mb are way different from each other...
but if the new mb is just a low powered smaller mbp its gonna dissapoint me

Do you think it would be dumb to drive 6 hours from Boise to Portland to one of their three Apple stores in the hopes that they will be in stock the day of announcement? No sales tax and I will want one bad.

Why not just order it off the intrawebs? You have to wait a few days but shipping is usually free and then you won't have to pay taxes or for the gas.

upgrade?

if they address the heat issue and noises that my mbp makes I might consider upgrading.

the more ports and better screen is not worth 800-1000 bucks in my opinion...
if they dont differ more between the lines i switch to a simple mb
I currently have a Macbook, but also play games, in addition to work and web browsing, and my Macbook can only do so much. What I'd really like is a Macbook with good (medium to high-end) graphics card, that is also a bit thicker such that it doesn't get so hot. :(

ditto i hate the green button as well... why cant get full screen... --_---

Glad to see I'm not the only one. :) And I've hardly ever used a PC at all.

hopefully they will also release a firmware for the iphone that is not embarrassing to use in public, and I can at last upgrade from 1.1.4 and get the same performance..... silly me, we're all meant to ignore that the current firmware is laggy and unusable and put our blinkered apple spectacles on.

I know this thread is nothing to do with the iphone but I won't spend another penny on any apple hardware until my phone works with apps and at the same speed as 1.1.4; then maybe I can start to enjoy using all things mac again, because at the moment its all tainted.

At this point DVD writers are just as cheap as combo drives. There is no legitamite reason NOT to include them, unless it is to artificially cripple the entry level macbook in an attempt to differentiate price points.

? have you used 2.1?

I still havnt gotten any crashing so far, i cant account for calls tho seeing as I have a touch.

The only thing that's certain is that people will whine about the lack of a midrange tower :p

Which we all know is exactly the reason Apple is doing it.

Seriously, I've heard of reports that combo drives actually cost MORE than DVD-writer drives.

EDIT:

And the lack of more selection and BTO options in their notebook line.

I was going to post that as im pretty sure its true (it usually costs more to continue making dying technology) but i didnt have proof so I didnt.

I dont think apple will have the combo drives this go around, unless that $800 rumor has legs, then im certain it will be there and I will be forced to purchase the mid level macbook instead.

I agree. The new Macbook better not look exactly like a smaller MacBook Pro with less power. I believe in Apple, though. I think they will really surprise us.

yep used 2.1 downgraded ( well upgrade really ) to 1.1.4, thought I imagined how bad 2.1 was on a 2g iphone, went back to 2.1 and then had to upgrade to 1.1.4 again so the phone was usable.

On 3 iphones I have access to ( 2 x 2g and 1 x 3g ) 2.1 is garbage compared to 1.1.4. Obviously I can only have the 3g iphone on 2.1.

I just don't understand how Steve Jobs can come out on a stage and parade any new development when the iphone firmware sucks so much.

Back on topic.... why assume that, if there is a $800 dollar macbook that it will have a combo or superdrive.

If a $800 macbook appears I would expect no combo or superdrive to appear on it, much like the Air.

I have a 1st gen. iPhone with 2.1 and it crashes all the time!... Like crashing is it's job or something....

Plus some apps. ( like monkeyball) won't even open now... when I try to open it up I just get a message that says something like "cannot open application". I paid for this app.! Very frustrating.

Well, for the majority of people its been working much better, so id personally call it a success, though it is troubling that something isnt working quite right with your phone...

Uhh... the current MBP IS a slightly more powerful Macbook. The MBP is a MB with a slightly bigger screen, a slightly faster processor, and dedicated graphics which are very bad for a "Pro" machine. These very few differences are why I believe the MB and MBP lines should be merged.

Admittedly, these are not laptop drives, but you would expect them to be proportionally priced...

<a href="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106083">LITE-ON combo drive</a>, $22.99 (same for IDE or SATA)

<a href="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106263">LITE-ON DVD+-RW burner</a>, $21.99 SATA, $23.99 IDE

HTML (thats html right?) doesnt work here.

Edit: you fixed it.
