CRAAAAAAAAP.
just bought a black MB today
i wish there was a smilie for crying right now
:[ :[ :(

ROFLMAO .. I believe kids these days would call that an EPIC FAIL

just return it unless the store you but it from no longer takes obsolete items. Then your screwed.

Nearly 1100 posts. Apple better have a ton of laptops ready to go next week!

Edit: OVER 1100 posts. Keep cranking Apple.... and users better be quick on the draw with their CC or quick to get down to their Apple store if they want a stock model and Apple has them ready to sell on day 1.

I have a replacement laptop order for a MacBook Pro that got put in yesterday. Still hasn't shipped... even though it's not a custom order. In the past, my orders have typically gone through quite a bit faster. Any guesses as to whether I would get one of these new MBP's?

I'd be ok with getting a current generation, since it's still a step up from the older ones I've had (this will be the 3rd replacement).

But, it would sure make my week if I got one of the brand new models.

What is the estimated ship date?

Go return it, RIGHT NOW!

Haha. If you opened it (I'm assuming you did) you'll probably have to pay a restocking fee of 10% or something. It's worth it. Tell them you're going to buy the new one.

product line differentiation

I think that the way Apple will differentiate the MB and MBP is by:

  • graphics (dedicated/integrated/128/256/512)
  • screen (12"/13"/14"/15"/16"/17"/etc...)
  • ports (FW800/FW400/etc...)
  • processor speed (2.4GHz/2.5GHz/2.6GHz/2.7GHz/2.8GHz)
  • standard memory (2GB/4GB/8GB?)
  • optical drive (combo/super/blu-ray?)

this is what I think... who knows

You're probably out of luck for a new model then. I'm pretty sure your replacement will be part of the "clear the old inventory" purge. Hopefully for your sake I am wrong.

Probably so, but you never know. If they've stopped producing them and have stopped shipping them out at the factory, they may just send out a brand new one.

I don't know how much they differentiate at the factory and shipping level, in terms of what's AppleCare and what's not.

Some people will **** a brick if Apple keeps the combo drive. I'm not one of these people though. I never use my laptop to burn media and therefore don't care.

I think your 8GB RAM is pretty liberal.

Wow. Didn't narrow it down much... that's a ton of screen sizes. :D

Me neither, and I hope you will get the new model. That would be sweet.

Oh believe me, bricks will be ****.

I barely use optical drives, but while they are still the main way i can get movies off my computer and onto a tv, im gonna need it in college.

i guess u will get the current model...
i asked an apple employer and he told me that applecare replacements would always be the latest gen mbp.
for u means the current one... as long as they are not out of stocks for the next 3 days u wont get the new one because u cant get somethin which doesnt even official exist even though they are in the warehouse-_-

i hope i get an new one due to applecare :D

And let's hope that redesign is a MBP thicker by 0.3 inches (therefore increasing the stuff that can be put in it, like dual HD's), that is cooler, that has an actual high-end graphics card, and that isn't priced at twice the industry average for the identical hardware from someone like HP.
x2, dual HDD would be very nice indeed. Make the stupid optical drive optional, with the ability to put a second HDD in its place. Folks like myself who do any serious CD/DVD disc work use an external firewire burner anyways.

I just dont really get the need for dual HD's then again, ive never personally managed to even fill a 40GB drive. But really, you can get a 500GB drive, and if you really cant manage that on the go, what exactly are you carrying around?

(its an honest question, the only thing i could possibly think of is people who do things like massive video editing)

er - so what's the big deal?

are you lot suggesting that the new MBP will be able to do something the old one can't?

What this means to me is I don't need to pay absolute top dollar for 227 day old (*) hardware. Name one thing that has had a consistent price for 227 in the hardware sector, the current MBPs should be close to free, not still costing a price premium.

THAT's at least one thing this will be able to do that the current/old one can't. Match it in value.

I'm sure it can't really be the case with laptops due to their custom nature, BUT, I RMA'd mine and my sister's iPod Classic 30GB (5G one white, one black) and we both got brand new 5G 30gb iPods back, nothing from the new range

What kind of features are needed in order to take advantage of the upcoming snow leopard?
Will the base model be capable of handling it without crippling the experience?

Clarifying my find of the "new" icons

I don't think its for the new macbook pro. Its for this:
Even higher performance.

"The new, blazing Intel Core 2 Duo processors run at speeds up to 2.6 GHz. Learn more." There is a "new" icon there.

aznkid25, the page you went to was not the one that I was referring to. I might have been somewhat confusing in my last post so I'll try to clarify. I meant the Macbook Pro page in the Apple Store. I've attached a screenshot to hopefully make a little more sense.

The basic point of my last message was that there are hidden "new" icons next to the Macbook and Macbook Pro in the online store. There are new icons next to every item on the stores main page code, but I'm referring specifically to the pages when you are viewing computers. These icons are only being hidden by a simple line of code which states "display:none" As these icons are only next to the Macbook and Macbook Pro, it is reasonable to guess that they will be released at this upcoming event. However, the Air, Mini, etc. might not be as the "new" icons are not hidden next to their pictures. Do keep in mind this is just a theory.

If you don't believe me and think I mocked this up, just visit the Macbook Pro page in the Apple Store and in your browser, right click on the page and choose View Page Source, then look for the text "new.png" (as I have highlighted in Exhibit A of my attached screenshot).

Here is a description of my attached screenshot:
Exhibit A: the "new" icon image code that appears by the Macbook Pro.
Exhibit B: the styles currently attached to the image. In the screenshot I temporarily disabled the "display:none" style to allow the hidden image to be shown.
Exhibit C: When "display:none" is not a style on the image, the image shows up next to the Macbook
Exhibit D: When "display:none" is not a style on the image, the image shows up next to the Macbook Pro
