As expected, Apple will be holding a media event on Thursday, October 16 at the Town Hall auditorium on its Cupertino headquarters campus, with the company today sending out media invitations for the event (via The Loop). The event begins at 10:00 AM Pacific, and the invitations carry the tagline "It's been way too long".

945 days since the last Apple TV update and 715 days since the latest Mac Mini update. While it seems vaguely like a toss-up on "way too long", I think the Apple TV is the winner.

I liked the Mac Mini to drive a desktop monitor, but if I am totally honest with myself, I didn't use it much. Portable/Laptop, yes, every day, but not so much the Mac Mini.

Hm. Kinda seems like Time Capsule is missing from the buyer's guide, but I guess that's sort of like the Apple TV in that it has no predictable schedule.

I would *love* to see a meaningful update to the Apple TV, particularly if it were commercially paired with AT&T UVerse.

Hybrid Mac/iPad

I think the logo hits at a mac/iPad or some hybrid of both with a stylus and pressure sensitive screen. You can clearly see what appears to be a stylus tip and the wavy surface could impy variability in force.

Who knows...

The leaf of the Apple is definitely the tip of a stylus painting a rainbow....

We give you... the :apple:pen!

It's been way too long

Maybe they are introducing a Big Lebowski game for iOS? :p

I can't see this as a joke, like they are so excited at Apple it's just been too long since the September event, and nothing new outside of iPads/iMac/Yosemite.

If they don't reveal a new display, :apple:TV or Mac mini, people will be very disappointed now.

A joke like this would be a fail, so I expect one of those products above.

I doubt they would hold an event just for a new mini.
If they add a lot of new features to the Apple TV I can see that getting a mn event, with home kit and everything.
The mini might get a small mention and a small update as well

I find it incredibly suspicious that this event is happening on a non-typical Thursday which just happens to be right before the Galaxy Note 4 launch on Friday the 17th. hrm...

Isn't it just a joke about how it's only been a few weeks since they called all the media to a special event?

The two devices that come to mind for 'way too long' are Mac Mini and Apple TV. Question becomes if these items are indeed refreshed next week, will they be spec updates or complete redesigns.

I'm of the opinion that the Mini will be updated. And even though I truly don't need a redesign I would like to see one regardless. Hopefully SSD finally becomes standard too.

Apple TV desperately needs a UI refresh IMO.

My gut says the 12.9" iPad and 12" Macbook won't come until Q1 or Q2 of 2015.

I think it clearly shows the top of the Apple logo

Interesting that they're using the old Apple rainbow colors. It might be a hint that this is a completely Mac-focused event.

So maybe a refreshed Mac Pro, new Mac mini, refreshed MBA, along with release of Yosemite. We might also see a new 4k Cinema Display.

That would be awesome, however I think battery life could be an issue there.

I don't think so - LEDs are extremely power efficient and the ambient light sensor (passive component - no power draw) only turns it on when needed.

Rainbow Apple logo. Macs. Possible Retina Air? That may be a stretch but imac and new display and mini. Yes. Apple TV 4th gen? A man can dream…

It does show the Apple logo, cropped in a manner to resemble a finger or a stylus. That is interesting.

It also uses the original Apple logo color scheme turned on its side.
Maybe they are going to stop making computers.

I really hope that the new iPad has better precision for using a stylus. I'm tired or using paper and a whiteboard to do math and physics homework. The precision is what needs to impress me.

Also being able to use the iPad as a drawing tablet for the Mac would seal the deal for me.

30 years since Mac OS release

Such a short sighted audience here ..

It's been 30 years since the and the first MacOS (remember that 1984 ad introducing it? erm - probably not a lot of folks older than 4 back then) .. now it's MacOS 10.10
