Predictions:

The Mac Mini is dead, will be replaced with a new screenless Mac, simply called Mac. The Mac Pro will eventually be a variation on that case design.

The MacBookAir is dead, will be replaced by a new baseline MacBook, simply called MacBook, that looks like the existing MacBook line but slightly larger and cheaper to produce. The refreshed MacBook line will come in 2 variations: 13" entry model with a larger body, bigger bezels, entry level specs and a 12" model with the existing MacBook slim design with higher specs.

They can get it to $999 if they streamline the production process. It's been 3 years since the introduction of the slim MacBook line and like the MacBookAir which started off as a premium priced Mac and ended up becoming the budget notebook, the MacBook's manufacturing is becoming standardized and a larger body would make it even easier to produce.

The Mac line would then be:

Mac
Mac Pro

iMac
iMac Pro

MacBook
MacBookPro

This makes sense actually. I am looking to upgrade my Macbook Air, a 2014 model, but if they will remove all ports I will have to jump over to a Windows laptop like Lenovo P1 or X1 because I need everything on it, I refuse to run around with cables.

I think that the stuff we really want, if released at all, will be one of those shipping in "January" realistically type of deals, or worse later in 2019..ugg. But maybe we can hope for December. God, I hope we're not over thinking what will be announced.

I'll be in Manhattan that day.... maybe a side trip to the Brooklyn Apple store will be needed.

You're certain it's not showing that they can remove at least 7 more fractions of thickness before selling the i-Nothing for $1200?

I'm already camped out for the iNothing. But I think your guess at $1200 is way too low. I want to pay iEverything for iNothing because Apple really needs the money.

Here, take my kidneys please! And pass me that Barclay Card Super Platinum application ;)

I've thought this for over a year now, ever since they said a redesigned Mac Pro was coming... and never did. I could see them making a modular, or at least more configurable Mac Pro/mini that could range in price from $999 all the way up to $5000 depending on configuration and requirements.

So, a single, yet highly configurable headless Mac.
Hey, surprise! Product development takes TIME. And when you add in the Logistics, Agency Approvals, etc. getting even a minor upgrade out in less than a couple of years is pretty-much unheard-of.

Apple will come to NY. Should he go?

This is a crucial keynote for Apple. It will show us their direction for next few years. If there is nothing interesting (nice tech for a reasonable price), I will have to get out of the ecosystem.

What Apple does is great tech for a justified price. It may not be the ecosystem/product range for you.

So far as NYC . . . I'm REALLY hoping it's publishing related. I imagine Apple Books is awesome on the new iPads. Maybe there's a new subscription-based books feature that includes the corporate publishers? Most of them have headquarters or are based in NYC, and several were involved with the launch of the first iPad.

Could be Apple's big post-DOJ collusion lawsuit push into ebooks.

You know what I meant. We have always paid quite a premium for Apple devices, but not this insane premium. 20-25% over different brand is ok for me, but not 50-75%. For me it's also about EU pricing, which used to be simply US price + EU tax (15-20% depending on country) and that is ok. But now there is like another 10-15% tax for nothing.
Yes, I do know exactly what you mean and I agree with you. I'm just saying it's not going to happen much to our dismay.

You all got it wrong.

First, they will yap endlessly about the iPhone XR and XS, which by the way is the most popular iPhone ever. Then customer satisfaction and developer preference and of course adoption of iOS12 which will be the highest ever, most popular mobile OS and the usual stuff.
Then they will show the new iPad followed by what will seem like an endless stream of super-boring demos, at least 2 of which will focus on misplaced usage of AR.
Then it's school manager. The demos and endorsments will go on until you loose the will to live.
Finally, when you're just about to burst into tears, Tim Cook will announce the new MacBook. It will replace the current Air, and the non-TB-MBP. The pricing will be sub $1000 as promised but severly underpowered at that price. Expect sub 2GHz CPU, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD. It will have 2 ports just like the nonTB, it will come in all the same colours as the MacBook, except space grey. It will have the T2 chip, but no face/touchID.
Then, as a final "one more thing", they will show a very vague promo video of the upcoming Mac Pro with almost no tangible information that will make the crowd go wild.
Thank you all for coming...

And no, there will be no new mac mini, but it will be silently removed from the Apple Store after the event.

Apple passed on the 8th generation CPUs for iMac, and those who wanted a six-core machine have been stuck with a quad core for over a year. Six and eight-core iMacs will be well received.
That's true although the changes will go beyond a CPU refresh. Their lack of update to 8th gen chips, considering the move to 6-cores, has seemed like a lack of attention to the Mac but this years iMac refresh was always planned for the fall, just as the new Mac mini was. I'm guessing the added profit they gain from remaining with 7th gen for a while longer also played a role.

Interesting that it's in a cultural venue in (arguably) the cultural capital of the US.

I predict lots of people onstage having done interesting things with the new Apple Pencil.

And given that it's a music venue, I expect a new super-charged version of Logic Pro - for the iPad.

...Although let's hope that they open with a segment on the Mac - and announce new Macs!
iOS doesn't have a strong enough filesystem nor CPU to make it a good LPX/FCPX platform. Yet.

I expect that LPX and FCPX WILL be an important part of this Event, though.

Develop (finally) a dual-bootable ios/OSX variant of the microsoft surface with removable/configurable ports/jacks and a minimum of RAM/SSD swappability and they'll have my attention again.
Or maybe they will just release USEFUL products, instead.

The opera house this will be in seats 2,104.
Ok; so it's not the venue SIZE. Then it MUST be it's "purpose" (attached to the College of Music)

LOL. Dude. Lighten up. Live a little. Have some fun. You kinda remind me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry acts all dark & depressed.

I think the sliced Apple indicates what I have thought all along. I'm predicting that the Mac mini will share a case design with a new Mac Pro with the Mini getting mobile processors and the Mac Pro configured with Xeon/ECC. Either will be usable with any of several options for eGPU and storage and I/O via TB3. I think the term "MacStack" will replace "Trash Can" as the unofficial name.

I am thinking maybe something that resembles the old OWC MiniStack but one a much higher level, with much better integration, cooling, etc. Of course that look will be new, but the concept is there.
