Didn't Apple themselves already float that the next Mac Mini WOULD be tagged "Pro"... or was that just a rumor?

Personally, I'm guessing that the next Mac Mini will be "pro" (and pro priced too) and basically the foundation piece for a Mac Pro. Custom proprietary connectors on top to stack on other parts (only available from Apple) to basically build a "pro." And I see the one design of the sliced Apple maybe teasing exactly that.
rumor. but agree with the sliced aspect to some extent. Makes sense, but I would expect the stuff we really want will be "coming 2030ish" ugg

I heard the saying that “it’s better to be pessimistic cause then you’re never disappointed”... but come on. Aren’t you even a little bit excited? Lol. As an artist who uses an iPad as his main computer & content creating device I sure am. But hey, opinions vary. Cheers.

The person you replied to is definitely playing the old trick of telling us Apple doesn't make devices 'powerful' enough for their use. Or 'only makes toys'. (but I guess they've been successful with their toys as they are the highest valued in the world many days) And that may be true, but then go use something else. Historically Apple has never been the 'fastest' , I remember when they didn't even have basic graphics cards for 3D and video. They've gotten better, but don't expect a Win NT server from a company that makes billions of dollars making the types of devices they have always made. The complainer above really does need to hit the Frys and build there own machine to be happy. Why they are bothering to rant here is the real mystery.

I wonder why this is in NYC and not at Apple HQ like all other events.

Given the venue, my guess is this is a Music creation focussed event. Maybe Macs with some new Logic Pro functionality aimed at the creator market. Mac Pro rumors from some time ago suggested more emphasis on the Pro market, so this could be the unveiling of the new Mac Pro model, as well as a Mini Pro?

I have thought that, too. The only thing would be that you'd have to vastly overdesign the bus-capabilties of the "modular mini" to be able to accomodate the sheer volume of bus traffic in a Mac Pro-class machine.

But other than that, that was one of my first thoughts, too...

I'm curious to see the rumored MacBook Air update. I have a 2010 MacBook Pro that is still running fine for what I need. I never upgraded to the new one because I do not like the butterfly keyboard, lack of ports, no user upgradability, and high price point. I've been heavily researching Windows laptops for the past year and I am seriously considering making the switch. I keep putting it off in hopes that Apple puts out a product that I am willing to purchase. If they don't completely redesign the MacBook Air and just upgrades the internals, I will gladly buy one. I highly doubt that will happen though so I have finally come to terms with the fact that I have to return/adjust to an operating system that I haven't used in over 10 years.

I really hope they drop the “air” moniker like they did with the iPad, and just merge it with the MacBook line. It just seems odd to keep calling it an “Air” when it is bigger than the current MacBooks.

Predictions:

The Mac Mini is dead, will be replaced with a new screenless Mac, simply called Mac. The Mac Pro will eventually be a variation on that case design.

The MacBookAir is dead, will be replaced by a new baseline MacBook, simply called MacBook, that looks like the existing MacBook line but slightly larger and cheaper to produce. The refreshed MacBook line will come in 2 variations: 13" entry model with a larger body, bigger bezels, entry level specs and a 12" model with the existing MacBook slim design with higher specs.

They can get it to $999 if they streamline the production process. It's been 3 years since the introduction of the slim MacBook line and like the MacBookAir which started off as a premium priced Mac and ended up becoming the budget notebook, the MacBook's manufacturing is becoming standardized and a larger body would make it even easier to produce.

The Mac line would then be:

Mac
Mac Pro

iMac
iMac Pro

MacBook
MacBookPro

YES! New iPod Socks and a refresh to the Apple Hi-Fi.

It stinks that those socks have gone so long without an update... :)

October 30th. The day we finally, at long last see the complaining over the Mac mini come to and end.

FTFY.
Seriously - the "Mac Mini Pro" rumor seems unlikely when the one thing they have promised is a new Mac Pro next year. I mean, it would be great to have an i7/i9-class headless desktop option as well as a workstation-class Mac Pro. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong.

"More in the making" could be a Mac Pro pre-announcement (which will inevitably be 'larger than the current Mini with a pro focus')

As for the venue? Logic Pro for the iPad maybe (while the other hand removes the headphone jack)? I'm half-suggesting an iPad-centric event.

Oh, wait, I've got it - no computers, but they've commissioned a remake of Fame! for their new TV service...

And go where, to PC and Android. Yeah, you have fun with that. You'll be back, trust me.
I don't know about PC. But I went to android after iPhone 5s and have not been back. Have not had a single problem with Samsung.

In New York at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Hmm...

So a music event with 1 hour of introducing Air Pods 2 and another hour of using 2 Apple Pencils and a New iPad as an AR drumkit and no new Mac's of any description. Bwahahah.

I hear ya. As a professional artist who uses the iPad as his main content creation device, I just ignore the toy comments. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but sometimes they really just make me laugh. Doesn’t bother me at all. And with Adobe releasing a full version of photoshop for the iPad next year, they don’t think it’s a toy either. So let the naysayers keep talking. In the meantime, i’ll keep creating and enjoying life.

Actually, I think that this what you said can be quite possible.

Now, if they only proceeded to do the same with the iPhone line, clean and neat has been the Apple's way for decades already. I do not know why is the iPhone line such a mess.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say Apple was building a 3D printer. Particularly the tag line and the sliced Apple layer logo.

It’s probably because I’ve been researching 3D printers all week though.

That one graphic is related to the Modular aspect. Something Apple mentioned about the MacPro a year ago.

First thing off the bat: reduce those monstrous bezels. There is just no other 2018 computing product with bezels that huge. It needs to go. And if possible, lets see a thinning of the chin as well.

Streamline and refine the design even further. It's what Apple does best.
That's just packaging. When I think "Redesign", I think of re-thinking the entire concept.
